SXSW Fashion – T-Shirts and Sneakers

I’m willing to bet you never thought of SXSW as a fashion show. With thousands of people in attendance from every walk of life, you’re bound to see a heck of a lot of different types of clothing. The most predominate article worn, though, was the old standby – tees. Our team fell in love with several different shirts and companies during their stay in Austin, and I’m afraid Kelly may go into withdrawls if she isn’t able to bring a few home for herself.

Fur Face Boy has all original designs, based off of things that the creator is interested int. The styles are casual and fun and many of them will get people talking. One shirt in particular that I’d like to talk about is the new Ultra Fur Face Boy. This little guy is very special and he’s taking on a huge task: helping the people of Japan. For five days, pre-sale orders were taken on these awesome little babies with 100% of the proceeds going to the Red Cross in Japan. If you weren’t lucky enough to order one yet, you still can! You can also still donate directly to the Red Cross.

Heyday Footwear is another item that was seen pounding the pavement all over the beautiful Texas city. They offer tees, hats and – of course – kickass shoes. The Klout Heyday party during SXSW was one of the most elite ones during the week, with 75 influential people hanging out, having fun and kicking back with their new sneakers.

The Good Child isn’t just a brand – it’s a lifestyle. The brain behind the brand, Heather, was the good child growing up. She had two “bad-assed” brothers whose antics she credits for her success. She learned that “expected and good behavior doesn’t always reward, and often times, it is the rebellious ones who make all the difference.” She was influenced by the boys’ pranks to be her baddest self and to live her dreams. She has turned that determination and passion into some serious cool clothes!

We Are The Process is a design company who also happens to have a passion for shirts. The team primarily works on sports-related themes and ideas which represent the deep south. They feel it’s important to rep the place they’re from! They credit their influences in many different places. The boys bring their own backgrounds and experiences into what they come up with.

You don’t need fancy software in order to design something fabulous. Most of these companies grab a sketch pad and pencil when the ideas begin to hit. They each use basic computer skills learned in high school and college to flesh out what they’ve come up with.

It just goes to show that you should never let a lack of expensive tools keep you from reaching your dreams.

Epic Gnomedex Shirt is Epic

During Gnomedex, we always have some nifty giveaways thanks to our awesome array of sponsors. When I ran across Rick Read and read his T-shirt, I knew he deserved a prize. This shirt is so epic that it needs no explanation. I only wish I had about a hundred prizes to give him.

What is the best shirt saying you’ve ever come across?

Are You Wearing Jinx?

I love to wear clothes – especially if they are free t shirts. Jinx has a new batch of shirts coming out in the very near future, and sent several of them to me to preview. You cannot really review a shirt, can you? I can tell you how cool it looks, or how comfy it is. All I can do, though, is show them off and tell you where to go to grab some for yourself.

The new summer 2010 line of shirts is pretty sweet. Some of them have skulls, of course. One has a robot on it, and another says something about “8-Bit,” which I happen to love. I listen to 8-Bit music as often as I can and even own a tie that will go perfectly with this tee!

If you happen to be a really great designer, email me and we’ll talk about creating a custom shirt for the live stream.

The Ultimate Conference T-Shirt

Gnomedex T-Shirt

If I’m not wearing a t-shirt, I’m usually wishing I was wearing a t-shirt. I love t-shirts. For my annual tech conference headed into its ninth year (Gnomedex), we’re producing a very special t-shirt in conjunction with J!NX! This is going to be a special edition t-shirt which all conference attendees will receive – but even if you’re not coming to Gnomedex, you’ll be able to order the t-shirt online. Soon thereafter, I’ll be working on a special LIMITED EDITION SIGNATURE SERIES of t-shirts with J!NX – yes, with my signature. 🙂 Stay tuned!

Where Do You Buy T-Shirts for Geeks?

I do love T-Shirts. I wear one pretty much every day. I got a new set of them recently, and have worn a few of them in previous videos. You might want to pay attention, because I’m about to tell you where you can get them! They are done by J!nx.

What is J!nx, you ask? It’s a clothing company for Gamers and Geeks! Where else should you get all your gear, if not from a store that caters specifically to you?

The shirts are very soft. I’m all about comfort – and style! – and J!nx certainly fits the bill with both. I really like the look of these. I love the colors, as well. They’re truly vibrant – and very different than what you can get in any store.

For comfort and style – at an excellent price – that Geeks will love, how can you NOT order a few for yourself?

Best Conference T-Shirt Ever

Okay, you know how most conference t-shirts suck? They’re splashed with sponsor logos and no fun to wear on Casual Fridays. Who really cares that you were at “Fast Food Fest ’99”?! I have a million and one of those types of t-shirts in my closet, and they all get thrown into the “donate to Goodwill” pile at the end of the year. Sorry, but I’m not interested in being a walking NASCAR chassis. Last year, we got a little geeky with the “Feed Me” shirt. This year, we’re totally stylin’ with a shirt that says it all without saying anything:

Gnomedex 6 T-Shirt (Male)

Cast a casual glance, and you’ll see nothing more than a hot paisley design on a black t-shirt. Look closer, and you’ll actually find a few alphanumeric characters spelling out the word G-N-O-M-E-D-E-X-6. There’s even a couple of unobtrusive Lockergnome logos thrown in there for good measure. That’s it – total black on the back. If you don’t think these are the best conference t-shirts ever, I’d like to see one less annoying (as in, completely devoid of sponsor logos). Our sponsors understand why we do this – and they all love us for it. My guess is that many Gnomedexers will wear the t-shirt well after the event. Oh, and we’ll have some extras for sale (including fitted t-shirts made for the female figure).
