Never again will you forget those passwords or waste time signing in to different apps while on your mobile device. Today, Facebook announced the launch of Single Sign-On. Sign in to the Facebook app on your mobile device and use it to log in to any social app on your phone. The best news of all is that developers can add Single Sign-On to any app with just a few lines of code and a couple of minutes’ worth of time.
Facebook used Groupon as an example of how awesome this new feature is. Once you’re signed into the Facebook app on your phone, you can open up the Groupon app and tap the “Facebook Sign-In” button. Zuck’s vision for this is that it will open the doors to the mobile world in a way nothing ever quite has.
This platform will allow devs to easily build great social experiences. This creates easy sign-on capabilities which makes users happy. Happy users are users who will log in much more frequently.
The updated Android app will roll out today, including the SDK for Single Sign-On. The iPhone version will hit your devices sometime next week. Perhaps more important to developers is the news that their location API will now be writeable – making it simple for code monkeys to write amazing new apps built around the Places platform.
