The Kin is back from the dead! [COMIC]

At the end of June, Microsoft killed off their line of Kin phones. There were reports that only about five hundred of the devices ever sold. Speculation pointed to the high cost of the device and its plan, as well as the fact that they seemed to be geared towards teenagers.

Apparently, the Kin is back with an updated pricing plan. Do you think resurrecting this device was a good idea?

TSA for the lonely [COMIC]

TSA for the lonely [COMIC]

Everywhere you look online, there are articles where people are yelling long and loud about the way the TSA has been handling passengers recently. Many TSA agents reportedly are touching people in spots they feel are completely inappropriate. Prosecutors are speaking out and claiming that charges will be pressed. Passengers who feel violated are filing police reports and lawsuits.

While nothing about this situation is funny, I thought that perhaps a little bit of humor injected into it would go a long way.

Are you Retweeting Mashable?

Mashable is one of the largest social media news sites on the planet. Their fearless leader, Pete Cashmore is a quiet force to be reckoned with. I have a feeling that when Pete “asks” you to re-Tweet their Twitter updates, it’s not really a request.

Are you a fan of Mashable? Do you tend to re-Tweet items you see from there, TechCrunch and our site? What do you deem to be Tweet-worthy?

The [Ultimate] Oatmeal Recipe

Matt Inman didn’t come to Gnomedex to discuss baking. He wasn’t explaining how his mom fixed his breakfast. He stood before us on the big stage to tell us his recipe for success. Matt IS The Oatmeal. His cartoons and quizzes are legendary. His is a story of passion and dedication, of laughter and late nights, and of skyrocketing over the top of that “other” type of oatmeal within a Google search. This, my friends, is the stuff dreams are made of. Meeting Matt in person and realizing what a fun and humble person he is just adds the proverbial icing to the cake – or would that be on the cookies?

27 year old Matt Inman draws, sketches and codes his way to a successful business making people laugh. His site, receiving more than four million unique hits per month, was recently named in Time Magazine’s Top Blogs of 2010.

Behind his wit and unassuming presence, Matt has a powerful story about his journey and how social media played a role in his success. His experience includes co-founder of SEOmoz, and founder and creator of an online dating website which he later sold, Mingle2 (the entire site from concept to launch was built in only 66.5 hours). He now focuses his energies full time on The Oatmeal.

Funny Signs in the Public Restroom

Usually when I go into a public restroom, I’m there to just do my business and get back out of there. But sometimes there’s reading material in there that you just can’t pass up.

Lee LeFever of The Commoncraft Show shared a few odd bathroom signs on his blog today. My personal favorite is this one, which reminds you not to drink the water from the toilet tank.

Really? Do you need to be reminded not to do that? Have you seen any crazy signs in the bathroom or elsewhere? Share a photo in the comments.

I Can Haz Cheezburger

I recently attended the WTIA Fast Pitch Forum & Technology Showcase. The conference featured two dozen of the of the hottest technology companies in Washington presenting their business in a competition for “Best In Show”. I Can Haz Cheezburger is well-known online for their hilarious LOLCat pictures.

Pet Holdings, Inc. is the parent company of the I Can Haz Cheezburger website. Creating a Lolcat is simple. Upload a picture, add a caption and share it with the World. There are now tons of options for registered users. You can even re-caption the photos others have submitted!

Lolcats served up 2TB of data in just two weeks. You read that right… two Terrabytes!! When Pet Holdings took over the Lolcats industry, they knew nothing about memes, nor funny cat pictures. They went back to the basics and did what worked. Obviously it worked well, since they’re still in business – and still growing like crazy!

If you haven’t ever visited the Lolcats site, you have no idea what you’re missing. I dare you to go there, and NOT smile.
