Yahoo! Podcasts

Looks like iTunes is getting a run for its money… Yahoo! has a Podcasts directory. “Yahoo! Podcasts offers a comprehensive directory of series and individual shows from across the Web, complete with detailed search results, most popular and highest rated lists, and editorial picks. Our goal is to make it easy for Yahoo! users and your listeners to find and subscribe to your show and listen wherever and whenever they want.” Directly from one of my Yahoo! friends, Lee Ott:

I'm excited to let you know about Yahoo! Podcasts, which just launched and is now in public beta at podcasts.yahoo.com. I want you to be one of the first to hear the news; hope you'll check it out and let us know what you think. I definitely want your feedback because without podcasters like you, and the cool content you create, this product never could have happened.
Yahoo! Podcasts works with aggregators like iPodder (thanks to Andrew Grumet), with desktop media players like the Yahoo! Music Engine (the integration is beautiful!), iTunes, the Windows Media Player, and even Winamp. Listeners can download your shows to any mp3 player, such as the iPod, iRiver, Dell DJ, Creative Zen, etc.
We've built a full collection of community tools including ratings, reviews, and the ability to tag audio content, or view the tags that other people add. Personalized podcast recommendations will be coming soon. We're also working on friendly, easy-to-use publishing tools so anyone can create and publish a podcast or audio blog and share it with friends, family, coworkers, and the World Wide Web.

Sounds good to me. :)

Clarification: Although they have their own WMP-like desktop player, Yahoo! Podcasts is actually a portal for finding new podcasts.
As such, it is more in competition with Podcast Alley than iTunes. Yahoo! Podcasts actually integrates with iTunes to use it as the podcatcher when syncing new podcasts with an iPod.
Really, they're doing Apple an immense favor by taking the load off Apple servers. Adam Curry himself (who worked with Apple to integrate podcasting with iTunes) said that Apple didn't want to rule over the podcast portal business.
Perhaps in the future Yahoo! intends an iTunes killer, but at this stage the main competition is with other portals.

Chris, if you have any input to Yahoo's team, maybe you could suggest they implement an RSS feed for the top 10/50 podcasts, like Podcast Alley has.
The Yahoo search is good, but having new/good podcast links show up in my aggregator is very convenient.
