Xbox Live Gamertag Fun
I hooked up one of my Xbox 360s last night, hoping to access all my games and whatnot from the exercise room. Turns out, that's not an easy task – as the second console tells me that I have to “recover” my gamertag in order to access my profile from that second machine, even though my first (primary) machine is completely off. *sigh* I must be doing something wrong – or the wording in the instructions is ambiguous. I don't want to delete the games from my original console – I just wanna re-download them and play them on this (second) Xbox 360. Am I missing a step? Does anybody know how to do what I want to do here?
Well, I got to the Xbox Live sign-in screen and it told me that my gamertag was already taken – then went ahead and offered a list of hilarious alternatives that had not yet been claimed (at least, as of this moment):
- CubicEmperor
- MindedPumpkin
- SpooneyJungle
- SchizoPython
- VulviformTulip (?!)
- EagerAphid
- DeformedBread
- StoicalSword
- TeeniestSkate
- Disorderlyimp
- MolarScarab
- QuotedGrain
- ShadyKarma
- DismalMango (?!)
- TolemicThread
- CherubicFob
- CrashingSiren
- StripiestOrc
- MemorableFish
- ColoringKey
- ElbowedCashew (?!)
- ThankedLawyer
- SizzlingAsh
- CrappyJoint
- RosyLeader
- CoolingSpark
- AssertingSatyr
- WaspyCobra
That's the most fun I've had with my Xbox in quite a while. Sad, but true. Go ahead and try it on your own Xbox 360 and tell me what you come up with. Too bad I already chose “l0ckergn0me” as my gamertag. Otherwise, VulviformTulip would be *SO* mine.

Yeah – it's gonna suck.
You need to MOVE your profile from the hard drive to a memory card. Then, plug that memory card into the other Xbox. You can now play the fulle version of any of the games you have downloaded and paid for. Arcade games are tied to both the Live account that purchases them, and the Xbox they are purchased on. This is why Ponzi can play a game you bought on your Live account. BUT, move those games to the OTHER 360, and only YOUR Live account can play those games. Freaking stupid. I can go into the whole mess this stupid move by MS got me into when I sent in my 360 for repair, which resulted in them sending me a new one – and thusly locking any of the four other accounts from playing the games I purchased – but I won't.

I think the slightly less drastic and still completely annoying option of taking the hard drive from your original Xbox 360 and sneaker netting to the second Xbox 360 will also work the same way as transferring your profile to a memory card.
