Wubi does __ALWAYS__ work fine.
As stated above the right path to follow would be;
LiveCD – just to get a hang of the new linux os
Wubi – Install and start working (though on the crippled file-system of Win)
Install Ubuntu on a partition and allow dual-boot. This way Ubuntu is no on Win file-system.

I was curious about Linux and Ubuntu. Read the heading ‘Wubi is Simple’ ‘Never been Easier’ so thought I would give Wubi a try before progressing to Ubuntu.

Not easy for me I’m afraid, can’t get the ‘Never been Easier’ Wabi to install, ZoneAlarm pops up and interrupts the process and refuses to continue, dare say if I shut down ZoneAlarm or messed about with its settings I would be able to continue – but I can’t be bothered ! ! !

thinking of installing ubuntu, i just got in the mail today a copy of ubunutu 8.04LTS 64bit. i have vista ultimate 64 bit. if you go to the wubi page, it does says under requirements “vista”. i was thinking of using wubi just because i dont want ubuntu to load first after i install with dual boot. last time i did that and tried to reconfig the boot loader to load windows first it didnt work. hopefully with wubi i can install ubuntu and not change the boot sequence. anyone know if wubi needs CD

shut the fuck up, if i see you id knock you into next week. He phoned up for some advice because he wants to enter the world of linux, BIG WOW. hes not trying to sound cool, because it does actualy say [i think on wubi website] that its for 64bit but you can *force* it to go on32bit. so he was right to ask their.

wubi does work on vista, i have it and forums say it works, it may not of been when that kid used

not necessarily, i’ve had them come in less than a week, it depends how many orders they have queued up at the time, and you can’t really complain about the timing when you get the disks for free! (or at least used to be able to…) ^_^

i personally dont see any problems with wubi and apparently nor does Canonical which is the company branch behind Ubuntu. As they are looking to incorporate it in the up coming 8.04 release
