Would You Like to Win Mac Software?
Not long ago, I did a write-up about the Mac Bundle Box. With the Bundle, you get 15 apps for the Mac for only $49.95! It’s one heck of a deal.
Now, thanks to our friend Christian, we are giving one of these away here… live… Wednesday evening, August 20th. Yep, you heard me right. We’re giving this away! Kat will be here for Gnomedex, and she will be helping me with this one.
So what do you have to do to win!? It’s quite simple.
- Own (or use) a Mac, of course. These programs aren’t designed for Windows. Don’t worry, we’ll be doing plenty more giveaways very soon that Windows people can enter!
- Leave a comment on this post here in my blog. In the comment, you must list for us your favorite three applications for a Mac, and tell us why you love them. You don’t need to write a book, try to keep it to a sentence or two for each, please.
- Be present in the chat room at the time of the giveaway.
That’s all there is to it! Get those comments in!

1. It is in the Applications-Folder, so I suppose this is considered as an application. Exposé - THE killer-feature of Mac OS X. Since 10.3 Panther, no feature has accelerated my workflow that much, like Exposé did.
Especially when you’re on the go, with just a 13″ screen, exposé is simply amazing.
2. ScreenFlow - I am currently starting a Video-Tutorial Project, and ScreenFlow is by far the greatest ScreenCapturing app I’ve ever seen. It makes a lot of things for Screencasting so much easier than ever before. Not only does it record at amazing quality, it is also an editor. There are a bunch of features only ScreenFlow can give me, and it is just amazingly easy to use.
3. TimeMachine - again something that actually comes with Mac OS X. It made backing up extremely easy and saved me 2 times already. My dad used to just burn important things on DVD, but when I showed him TimeMachine, he went to the Apple Store the next day, to get an external Hard Drive and Leopard.
(In case only 3rd-party Apps were meant:
4. Adium - Amazing Instant Messenger. It collects my MSN, ICQ, .Mac, GTalk and Yahoo accounts in one contact list, and let’s me chat trough these accounts in one tabbed window. It is stunningly customizable, easy to use and plays greatly together with the Address Book. If Adium wasn’t there I would need to constantly have about 4 apps running, just for IM. Wish it’d also support Skype…
5. QuickShareIt - A small free application. I just need to put it in the dock. And when I drag a file onto it, it is automatically uploaded to a QuickShareIt-server and give’s me the URL to share. It is completely free and I didn’t even have to set up an account.

grabUp - This year this application had made a huge difference with my one to one chats with my clients, I can show them screenshots of their design almost instantaneously.
PhotoBooth - Can’t beat a bit of photo capturing or some video capturing.
Cyberduck - It’s an awesome ftp client that has never ever failed me :)

There is FAR too many good apps for Mac! I was blown away after moving from Windows at the quality of the shareware and indie software out there. Here are my favorite 3 that I use daily:
1. Fluid.app - This single app completely realized my vision of desktop/webapp integration. I can access Gmail, Gcal, Friendfeed, and more just like any other app on my computer! Definitely necessity in my book.
2. Quicksilver - What can be said? QS is one of the single most important apps on the Mac. I can update “Iwantsandy”, launch apps, search files and internet, edit text files, operate iTunes, and more in just seconds with just a few keystrokes. My productivity went up about 30% or more as soon as I started using it!
3. Safari - Yes, I know it comes with the Mac, but what does that matter? It completely rocks. Being a diehard Firefox fan pre-Mac, I was shocked at how simple, fast, stable, and intuitive Safari is. It’s the little things that make it the best. Did I mention that it was fast?
Those are my 3 favorite… but I could probably go on for hours :).

Hey all,
First, i love all mac apps no matter what, they all have a great use.
My top 3 Mac apps would be
1. Times. Times is a great software for news! I love to customize and use it so I can read everything that is going on in the world.
2. Awaken. I chose Awaken out of all of the alarm software out there because it has great customization. Anyway you want to wake up in the morning Awaken has it.
3. Last but not least. Google earth. I absolutely love Google Earth. Where ever you live, or dream of going to or just looking about the world Google Earth can do that. In one click you can be on the other side of the world! It truly is a one of a kind app.
Thanks all I cant wait to see who wins!

GIMP - You gotta have an image editor
smcFanControl - I like being able to keep my laptop extra cool. It can lower the temperature 20-40 degrees by turning up the fans
Caffeine - I get annoyed when my brightness dims without me wanting it to. This app stops my macbook pro from dimming.

My name on your site is Macboy88. My three favorite programs on Mac are iMovie, Contacts, and the stickies. I like iMovie because it has helped for some scholarships and messing with some videos over summer. I like contacts because of the syncing with the iPhone and the ease of use with e-mailing. Stickies are handy because I always find myself needing to jot down quick things online and it’s always the perfect tool.

MacSaber: I’ve been told that this was the best .app for MacBooks! I just love freaking out my friends with this… *ZWWINGG*! (yes, I am a Star Wars fanatic).
MacOSaiX: Probably the coolest image editing tool I have ever used! Remember this Chris ;) ?

Here are my favorite Mac apps:
1. Adium - Free
It connects more than one IM accounts and the GUI is neat and tasty, very user friendly!.
2. Logic Studio - $499
Many people are starting to produce music or maybe spi lyrics/vocals, Logic is one of the best program to use, lots of tingeing and produce the best sounds.
3. AppZapper - $20
An awesome app that zaps all the other unwanted apps. I like this app because it finds all the related files that the unwanted app leaves behind, so it is a clean sweep!

Hello, Chris
My Name is Nick and my fsvorite 3 Applications for the mac are,
1. CamTwist, camtwist ais a freeware application allowing you to put special effects on your camera, but some people like to use it for ustream, i find it very helpful and useful.
2. Screenflow, screenflow is a the best screencapture program for the mac allowing you to do whatever you want with recording your screen and you from your isight camera, you can make yourself have depth next to your screen, the possibilities are endless. Even with its hefty price tag of $100, it is all worth it.
3. Movie HD, imovie hd was at first really hard to use for consumers but then with its newest release of imovie 08′ it is so much easier to use, but you sacrafice some cool features, so thankfully, Apple has put up iLife 06′ as a free download for everyone that wants all of their cool featurs, i use both so i can use the youtube upload feature. So you can have the best of both worlds, and as a free editing software it is the on of the best pieces of software that is for the mac.
Thanks for Reading My List Chris,

This immediately caught my attention because a) I have a mac, use a mac, and love my mac and b) am always looking for cool new software to test out. Keeping everything in “a sentence or two” is going to be hard for my favorite applications.
1. Adium - Wow. What else is there to say? When I’m on my mac, Adium is always running so I can be connected to all 5 of my chat accounts at once and have a simple chat window which looks the same for each client. Tabs at the bottom are my favorite part!
2. Terminal - Haha, you are probably going what can you do with terminal, right? Well, I program Ruby so I always have multiple terminal’s open testing different programs and running ones that have already been built and work. It works very well with Ruby, I have my terminal all customized so It fits right next to my doc on the left and I can see everything that’s on it 100% of the time.
3. Mail - If you didn’t notice with Adium, I love programs that you can hook multiple accounts up with and it integrates them with ease. With all of my different email accounts, I hate web based email now that I use mail. Who really wants to log into 3+ web based emails on different clients, it’s annoying! Thunderbird isn’t a bad alternative, but Mail rocks. :P
Oops, I think I kept typing longer as I went on forgetting about 1-2 sentences. :P When you’re talking about your favorite applications, how can you not keep going and going and going, you do it all the time Chris. :)
Thanks for this opportunity, I have set up an alert in iCal just incase I happen to forget to visit the actual chat room for the giveaway (I use the ustream dashboard app to watch the stream).
Good luck to everyone, see you on Wednesday.

Hi! well, my favorite apps in this order are,
1. iTunes, well come on, who DIDNT put this as one of they’re favs? well, i love music and i always have it on when i’m on my mac.
2. Safari (obviously), Safari, in my eyes, is the best web browser there is. it prevents pop-ups very easily, also, when im writing a form for something, all i do is type my first name and it automatically fills everything else in (address, phone number etc.)
3. iMovie, I love making “slideshow/videos” on my mac for my family and friends and then burning them on a dvd. it just makes things easier for me to just “click and drag” things into a new project….even if i cant put avi on it….
thanks for spending your valuable time into reading this

- Candy Bar : Why ? Because you can make the best looking OS of all time ever better…
- Adium : The best Multi-IM client out there. Yes, it has no audio and no webcam support, but again, this software looks good and work well.
- Mac OS X : Wait, what ? Safari (Best Browser), iTunes (Best MP3 Player), Mail (Great Client), Time Machine, iPhoto, iChat, Dashboard, Quicktime. One bad*** software bundle.

Hi all! These are my top 3 favorite mac apps.
1. VMware fusion- You have to love the ability to run nearly every operating system on the planet inside a virtual machine. Not to mention most of the open source operating systems now fully support VMware.
2. App zapper- Great piece of software that allows you to easily remove all files that lurk around from those apps that are truly unwanted.
3. Real Basic- Just as the name says this software is “Real Basic”, real basic is fun and easy. It allows newbie programmers(Like me) to easily develop rich object oriented applications. Real basic has been seen as an Alternative to Visual Basic on windows.

1. I use VLC Media Player for the Mac because it recognizes and plays all sorts of video formats, including flv, which is great since I download stuff from YouTube a lot.
2. Colloquy. Mac-only, it works great for chatting online, except for the freezing parts sometimes.
3. CamTwist. This thing is an online streamer’s dream right here. Very smooth, easy-to-use, and it’s fun!
4. Adium IM: This app is so handy for me. I have 2 MSN and AIM accounts, a GTalk, and a Yahoo! account. It keeps all my contacts organized and it is very customizable!
5. iTunes. I am a music junkie, and iTunes works wonders for me. Buying music, playing music, burning music CDs is never easier than this.
6. iMovie HD 6: MUCH better than iMovie ‘08 and it has the stuff I want in it. Since I make movies and upload them to YouTube, I need all the transitions, fades, etc. I can get my iHands on. ;)
7. iWeb: It’s SO easy to make your own personal website and have a place to publish it at. As long as you have a .mac/MobileMe account, publishing your website is as simple as a click!
8. All the included image viewers/editors included on OS X. I have over 1600 images stored on this MacBook and I want to view/edit them at my leisure, and all of those programs do the job for me.

time machine- great backup app.

John Congdon: i am going to get smcFanControl immediately! thanks for the kudos on the product! i’ve been curious-

My favorite apps are:
Pathfinder, as the best file manager for the Mac. I don’t work well in Finder, and Pathfinder makes the transition to Mac easier for the Windows crowd, including me. The tabbed interface and built in features for file management are great features.
AudialHub. My boyfriend loves to find cool videos and then have me download them convert them to mp3 with AudialHub and put them on his iPod. Very nice to find obscure music, original copy-right free of course, and put them in iTunes, for the non-audiofanatic (when fidelity is not paramount).
Together: it wins my vote in allowing you to tag any (?) file with keywords and then later find that file. You need this when reference material is voluminous and memory is weak. I perform audits and training so I need tons of info on a variety of topics, and all the other tagging software will only tag PDFs and web-clips, not Power Point files, Word files, Excel spreadsheets, and so on. It’s fantastic…so far. I don’t know of anything that beats it for the variety of files able to be tagged in an easy to use UI.

There is a plethora of apps that come bundled with OS X that would go in my top 3 overall apps, but for the sake of 3rd party give-a-way’s, I will list my top 3 third party apps.
1. Docker: I change my dock settings and wallpapers almost everyday. Docker makes it simple to change the look of the dock without going into the Dock’s package contents and replacing all the s-curve images.
2. Onyx: Excellent utility for running scripts and cleaning up unused files on your Mac.
3. Google Earth: those guys at Google are geniuses.

I’ll try to list some that haven’t been mentioned yet.
Smultron is a great all purpose text and code editor. It supports syntax highlighting for many languages such as PHP, HTML, Javascript, etc. It’s free and a great alternative to Coda.
Skitch is a great little image editor that can take screenshots, webcam shots, and do basic image editing tasks. Great for the times when Photoshop is too much.
Forklift is an alternative to Transmit and is a FTP, SCP, S3 and WebDAV tool. It also has an application deleter much like App Zapper.
These my not be my absolute favorite but as a aspiring web developer they are applications and could not be without.

My favorite apps have to be:
#1: Caffeine, mainly because whenever I am watching the live stream my computer won’t just sleep on me.
#2:Skitch, it has helped me a lot through out my web design project, to get color samples or styles.
#3:Sofa Control, it makes everything much easier, espially when you are watching movies on your Mac, and you hear the mail sound, I can check my mail and get back to my movie just by using my Mac Control.
Those are my favorite 3 apps and I really recommend them!

Wow, this isn’t an easy question! Let’s try to answer it though :D
1) Itunes. I can’t live without music. Even before moving on a mac, it was already my favorite application. Easy to import music, sort music and even buy music in the itunes store (that I find very convenient! Seeya CDs, I don’t need you anymore).
2) Mail. Sorting my emails is now easy and I like the fact that I can keep my RSS inside. Nothing too fancy, but I save tons of time now :).
3) I’d probably have a tie between Adium and Safari, but I’m more a chatterbox person… so I’ll pick Adium. It’s so convenient to have all my accounts linked up in 1 program and I like that fact that it is so easy to customize :).
I tried to list all my applications on http://osx.iusethis.com/ the other day, and it’s really hard to order them. So many softwares are useful to me, on my mac :D

2. don’t know if this would be considered a app or not but connect 360. lets you shear your itunes with your xbox 360.

My favorite 3 applications for the Mac are :
Launchbar
VMware Fusion
Adium
Launchbar lets me quickly open up applications, imho it’s way better and faster then QuickSilver. The downside is its shareware but it’s worth the money.
VMware Fusion lets me run Windows applications on the Mac. I use it to run Video/Audio chat on Windows via MSN Messenger since the Messenger : Mac doesn’t support Video/Audio chat on the Personal Account.
Adium lets me chat with all my friends in multiple networks.

1. iTunes: it’s a great and easy way to manage your media.
2. iMovie: Simple, but effective of editing and creating a movie. Even allows you to capture straight from the application!
3. Expose: I don’t know how I would navigate through all my open windows without this.

1. Time Machine - the most seamless backup solution I have ever seen. It just works like it has always been around. I purposefully delete files and move stuff around just to use it.
2. iMovie - I love editing video, i learned to use final cut pro, but I am not a professional and using these can be very cumbersome. This makes the process so easy for anybody to get results they are amazed with.
3. Photoshop - Although not exclusive to apple, that is where it was born. Even though I no longer use this app professionally, I still keep my copy as a hobby and use it every day.

Hey everyone, Theebayk1d from the chatroom here, and here is my list!
SMC Fan Control - I have no idea where I would be without this app. My computer still gets hot but this is defiantly a life changer. Keeping my laptop cool with preferences and easy change settings.
VMWare Fusion - Why would I want to run Windows on my Mac. I have no idea but there are just so temping freeware apps on Windows Only, I mean who would want that. Plus an extra bonus of ability to run all other kinds of OS’s, Hello Linux.
KComputer Zone Widget Packet - These app is so useful and I am glad a community member created it. It is an incredible tool to not only watch your stream and many others plus more being added.
Runner-Up
Firefox - I love my Fox with all it’s incredible add-ons and everything. Safari would be here if it had the add-ons that Firefox has.

I’ve just recently bought an iMac and an iPhone, mostly thanks to watching your videos. After having been a disgruntled Windows user from Windows 3.0 to Windows Vista, I dabbed in Linux distributions but there always seemed to be something missing. Well I have a iMac now, and I honestly have never been happier with my computing experience. The performance is amazing, the presentation (especially the welcome intro) made my jaw drop, and it is the most stable experience I’ve ever had on any computer. In short, thanks for convincing me to purchase a Mac, now onto my favorite Mac applications.
1. iCal: I just started a very hectic semester of college (21 hours, YIKES!) and iCal has made inputting my syllabus effortless. I have all seven of my classes fully planned out throughout the year, color coded and all. Then with the MobileMe service (currently on the trial) I have it go straight to my iPhone so I can have it at school. Amazing application, endlessly useful, on to the next app.
2. iTunes: After getting the iMac and iPhone, iTunes is the most useful app (aside from iCal) that I could ever use. I never gave it a chance in Windows, as I was usually settling for WinAmp or WMP. In Linux I used Amarok, but none of them compare to iTunes. Syncs with all my devices, has a great store, and having it all go right to my iPhone is the icing on the cake.
3. QuickTime Player: I’m not sure what it is, but QuickTime player seems much different on a Mac than in Windows. I hated opening up anything in QuickTime player on windows, because it loaded slow and the quality wasn’t that great. On a Mac, the quality seems to be like nothing I’ve seen before in streaming media! It’s crisp, clear, and I’ve never had to buffer ONCE after the video started. Mac is amazing, and the applications Apple has provided right in the OS have stolen this WindowXP Diehard’s heart.
Having been a Windows exclusive user, I have no compatible software anymore! After looking at the applications that come in the Mac Bundle Box (And watching your video you did with it) it seems like the answer to all my application woes! Good luck to everyone and congratulations to whoever wins, and thanks Christian and Chris for giving me and everyone here the opportunity to win these great apps. Take care.

My favorites are:
1. Intaglio (by Purgatory Design). Good illustration software.
2. iTunes. A lot of people harp on it, but I use it every day.
3. Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. I do a lot of non-professional photo editing with this inexpensive software.

good question…so many favorites to choose from…
Well let’s see, I like Omni Outliner (hence my name) which allows me to do really in-depth note taking among other things. I like Quartz Composer. Seems to be my favorite as of late. It’s a nice addition that comes with the mac developer tools …that i don’t hear many people talk about. It allows me to build screensavers, movie sequences, awesome animations, etc.
Let’s see….oh yeah…iShowU…allows me to do screencasts and has a boat load of options and settings for exporting to the web. Well worth the $20.

I really like garage band because its very easy to use and you could create great songs without having to be a musician.
I really like imovie because it is also very easy to use and you could edit good quality videos quick and easy.
I also really like Safari because its the fastest web browser i have ever used and it also looks very cool.

1. Mail
Mail client with data detectors, RSS capabilities, and To Do’s in a nice, clean package.
2. Safari
Simple, yet sppedy browser with the ability to generate dashboard widgets/web clippings on the fly. Page “snapbacks” are very useful as well.
3. VMware Fusion
Windows, Linux, Solaris…whatever OS you want/need on your Mac in a few easy steps.

Adium - It is a great instant messaging client that supports all of the various services that I use. Adium allows me to use one program to access all of these services, rather than using several programs; one for each service.
Mozilla Firefox - In my opinion, Firefox is by far the best browser. The thing that is so much better about it than other browsers, such as Safari, is its great support for addons and the active community that creates them. I have become so accustomed to some of the addons that using a browser without them is unbearable.
VLC media player - VLC allows me to download videos without having to worry about what codec was used to encode it, due to VLC’s support for a vast amount of codecs, much greater than that of Quicktime.

SheepShaver (PPC Mac Emulator) - Allows me to run my old-school Mac OS apps on my Intel MacBook
Snapz Pro X (Screenshot app) - How i take all my screenshots mac wise

1: iTunes: iTunes is so esay to use and is so nice to look at.
I don’t even have an ipod nore an iphone but I like it.
With the iTunes store the expirience becomes compleet, there’s only 1 downside and that is that i don’t have the ability to buy movie becouse i live in belgium.
2:VMWare is just creat to try diffirent OS I already tried a couple of linux based OS on it and i used windows before but Mac os-x just speaks to me the most. With VMware you can open multiple OS at the same time something you cant do in bootcamp.
3: ScreenRecycler is a tool you can download for free that uses a mac or Pc as a second or third Screen.
So if you have a mac you don’t use so often u can use it as a screen. http://www.screenrecycler.com

My favorites are :
- Butler: Quite similar to QuickSilver, but just happens to be my do-everything-program of choice. Simply put: the program I could not live without. If you don’t know what Butler or Quicksilver is - do yourself a favor, and find out !
- TextMate: I could have never imagined that you could love a text editor.. Infinite expandability to My needs and amazing features, I’m in love. If you code, you want check this one out. (@TJ Since you do Ruby you probably use it, right ?)
- Aperture: Wonderful Mac-like solution to the problem of editing and handling thousands+ of photos. I just to hate the slow post-processing procedure. Now I can’t wait to get to in front of the computer and tune my photos in Aperture.

I use Safari for web browsing because it is the quickest i had ever used. Then i use Colloquy for my irc chat because it is the connection into the chatting world. Then i use Skype because i told them to get a webcam and now i can with anyone in my family.

1. Screenflow. Unbelievably the best screencast recorder for MAC.
2. Transmission - easy and fast. ‘nuf said.
3. iAlarm - protects my mac in open spaces. Saved it twice.

imovie - unbelievable user friendly way to make great movies (have Final Cut but have not needed the extras yet).
grab - I used hypersnap with my pc (Gnome recommendation) and find this tool indispensable…
audio hijack - unfortunately needed for my macbook…

Beans from the chat here. My list:
1. Spore Creature Creator. One of the funest games out there. It’s just pure joy to show it off to your friends and just use it yourself.
2. OE-Cake. This is to Sand what OSX is to OS 9. AWESOME. I have never seemed like such a freak to my sister because I love this game.
3. HandBrake: The most useful app I have. I can use it to rip movies to my Mac, directly encode them to iPod/iPhone (especially useful) and many other formats, and it’s FREE!
Close but no cigar: Firefox 3. Every computer, Mac or PC, needs this.

My favorite free mac software has to be iTunes. There is never a day where i do not open it. Second fav would have to be Adium. So much better then regular MSN apart from the lack of webcam. Finally FireFox with the PIcLens addon. Makes browsing youtube and google so much fun.

My favorite apps are: Candybar, Adium, Coda
Candybar: Simple. Allows me to customize my system’s look to my liking.
Adium: Easier than having seperate clients for each of my IM services, good interface, powerful program.
Coda: Everything you need to code :)

My 3 most favorite apps are:
1) Safari: I like Safari as my default browser because it is so simple to use. It’s always fast and I never had to force quit safari (unlike Firefox). Overall I like it because it’s user-friendly :]
2) Itunes: I’ve has Itunes for a very long time and it never gave me any problems. It keeps my podcast, music, movies, apps, and tv shows in their very own section. The feature in Itunes that I like the most is the feature that can apply album artwork to all my songs. It even has a radio!
3) Macscan: Although the possibilities of catching spyware on a mac is slim, I feel safe when I run Macscan. Lucky for me, I’ve only had a couple of tracking cookies but if I ever get spyware, I feel pretty confident that it wli detect it and remove it :D.

1) Final Cut Studio 2 for video. It’s the best, most complete suite I have EVER seen on any platform for media editing.
2) Colloquy for IRC. It’s free and arguably the best IRC client for OSX.
3) Adium for IM (better than iChat in my opinion) Adium supports many more IM protocols than iChat - and looks cooler too. : )

1. Firefox - Simplicity, lots of plug-ins, great design, open source. Theyre also very open for custom concepts. Mozilla just rocks, because theyre taking advantage of many brains.
2. Candybar - I love customizing my mac, and this makes it possible. Also, the Developers are releasing freeware icons at iconfactory.com
3. Littlesnitch - I really likes, when i know what applications are sending information to what, and that i can block the communication.

…Mac is cooler than PC…there i said it. This breaks my heart to say that because i am a die hard PC guy and i have been like this all my life. But when i first tried a mac…reluctantly…for my media class i just fell in love with it. So i went out and bought me on. There are no other words to describe how my computer life had changed…just astonishing. Well any who, I haven’t tried many programs on the Mac but I can tell you which ones i have and liked the most.
1. iwork- i know this may not be a top of the line program but
dam…i tried it once and loved it
2.final cut studio’s 2- ok when they say you can edit like a pro
with this program, believe me you edited like a pro!
3.Aperture 2- they say a picture is worth a thousand words…
well in my opinion this image software is worth a thousand
words!

1. Camtwist, The features on camtwist are great! it gives the Mac user all the features a program that would cost a PC user around 39.99 for for free!
2. TimeMachine, I backup my files on TimeMachine and another source, timemachine is a user friendly way to quickly look at your backed-up files.
3. Safari, best web browser. Enough said, next in line however would be firefox

3. Fruity Loops… Why? Because I love playing around with my mac and making great beats… It makes life on my Mac just that much more fun!

1) iTunes. I love listening to music, and iTunes blows any other media player for OS X away in my opinion.
2) Adium. This is the app that seriously pushed me over the edge to get my iMac. It’s extremely customizable (I’m a custo freak!) and has an awesome feature set.
3) Mail. Mail is, in my opinion, the best email client (that’s not a whole PIM) out there. It’s simple, does great Junk filtering, has an awesome search, a plethora of USEFUL features, and is just plain good-looking. It, again, blows away anything that I used on my PC.

Though I don’t really own a mac. My parent’s do. I use it occasionally. But. When I do, I love Adium, iTunes, and Safari. All free. The reasons why.
Adium- Reminds me a ton of pidgin, what I use everyday on my own computer. It’s free and supports most the protocols I use.
iTunes- Though iTunes is pretty bloated, you can’t not love the User Interface. It’s straight and to the point, with the iTunes store where I get some of my songs/albums.
Mail- I need to stay connected via mail. And, well. Mail is in my opinion better than thunderbird.
Well, there yah’ have it. For the limited time I use a mac, well, I wish I could use it more. *pouts* I love those three apps.

Great site Chris. I started using Macs in 1985 but strayed for a few years. In the last six months I’ve replace all the computers my family uses with iMac’s, MacBook Pro’s and MacBooks.
My favorite apps on the Mac right now are:
1) firefox - great browser and I love being able to add all of the extensions to do cool stuff.
2) skype - let’s me chat with friends around the world regardless of the platform they are on.
3) keynote - does the old ***** slap on powerpoint. super cool app.
I need some more very cool apps for the Mac so make me the winner!!

: iTunes: iTunes is so esay to use and is so nice to look at.

Adium is a free messaging client that supports all the mainstream networks. It is highly customizable and includes everything you could possibly need besides video support. For audio and video chat, use Apple’s built-in iChat.
VLC supports nearly every possible video compression format you could find on the internet. It features a sleek interface that is extremely easy to use. Look no further than VLC for your video needs. Best video player on any platform.
Transmit is a powerful and easy-to-use FTP program that integrates beautifully into the operating system. Unfortunately, Transmission is not free.

1. Quicksilver: I am a huge keyboard junkie, and this app enabled me to do so much more with just a few quick keypresses.
2. Skitch: I find myself taking alot of screenshots to show things to friends. Quicksilver makes this entire process so much easier with it’s built in editing and uploading features.
3. Adium: The AIM and MSN clients for mac are in an extremely sad state. Adium manages to impress in all departments, with its plethora of features and compatiblity with almost all IM networks.
