Tell me about it. I have two firewire external hard drives and NEITHER of them will work w/ XP. I've scoured the net for fixes, emailed tech tv, hit message boards, and there seems to be no fix. I actually had to go back to Win98 just so that I could do a daily backup onto these drives. Sux.

I use a wonderful recovery tool whenever my card is accidentally erased. I found it thanks to you, and it works great! (Let me know if you need the link…)

Having supported Sony digital cameras, I can say the SanDisk reader does the same thing on Memory Sticks. I've head the complaints from frustrated customers. No, ma'am, your daughter's wedding pictures are gone. Sorry.

My Dazzle 6-in-1 USB 2.0 reader works great on my Mac. Of course, it IS a Mac. :-)

It's easy to blame windows Chris, but I don't think you have a reason to blame them on this one. If the media fails, it fails. I've had removable media fail for no good reason as well. I've also had a $1000 mini dv cam blow its firewire connection exactly one year after its warranty was up. Who knows, I'd tend to blame the hardware manufactuar before I blame a third party for its drivers.

I bought a very basic USB1.1 SmartMedia card reader last week on eBay, which seems to work fine with XP's built in drivers. Only hiccup I've had so far is when I inadvertently reformatted the card with a Linux file system (don't ask), but other than that it's worked fine.

I've had an Addonics USB 1.1 6-in-1 reader for about a year, and no problems with any flash media cards yet. Standard XP drivers used on several machines, including my Tablet PC.

Racked up about fourteen months of constant use on a Dazzle CF reader. Works great on XP – never had a problem.

Don't forget Boston drivers. They're reportedly in the top three for rudest drivers in the US. :)
I have two different card readers that use USB 1.1. Both were free and both work great. Never had a problem with standard XP drivers with them. (ZiO!) My firewire works fine, but I only use my DV camera with that.

“World's Worst Drivers” are all in Southern California. New York drivers (especially those damn cabbies) are pretty bad as well. Any one of them will cut you off if they smell a fare nearby. These are not the same kind of drivers you talking about huh?
