World’s Best MySpace Profile Page

I was watching the news this morning and just so happened to catch this story in passing. To me, it’s what all this “social media” / “social networking” is about. Despite initial news searches, I could only find one article about it (from a UK publication). You’re not going to believe this:

Tommy DeCarlo, unknown singer from Charlotte, North Carolina, just joined his favorite group, Boston, and he has MySpace to thank for it.

No joke. A MySpace profile page made his dreams come true:

DeCarlo, 43, who up until recently was working as a credit manager at his local Home Depot, put MP3’s [sic] of himself singing Boston songs in tribute to original lead singer Brad Delp, who committed suicide last year, on his MySpace page. A fan contacted DeCarlo and suggested he send it to the band’s management.

Long story short: Tommy’s the new lead singer for the band. Actually, it’s not a very long story - but it’s quite inspirational. My own MySpace profile page will likely generate nothing but spam for me.

This was on “The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch” last week.

Arnel Pineda of Journey was “discovered” by Neal Schon the same way. Journey will never be the same again.

Reminds me of the story about Journey finding their new frontman through YouTube

They came across some young, completely unheard-of Filipino dude singing Journey covers, and hired him to be the new Steve Perry.

It’s a heck of a story - there’s a reference to it on the Journey Wikipedia page, here: http://snurl.com/2bvto, but then read the new guy’s life story here: http://snurl.com/2bvtv - from living on the streets to headlining at the Vegas MGM Grand!

i love what you are doing

Good Morning America also had a story about this today:

The new lead singer for Journey was found by the band via Youtube.

I can’t belive what I’m reading. But yeah, guess that’s like the whole point of social netoworking actually, besides getting to know people better and all.

This just goes to show you how social networking/media will and already is effecting our everyday lives.

I know employers search for peoples websites, blogs, myspace, etc to do background checks. Many people now don’t get the job because of what they posted on thier myspace/blog/website.

Wow just wow i see that Myspace has helped someone else besides me. ok here is my story its a long one so grab a few snacks and drinks to read it, now i got a friends request from the most loving woman ever now my first thought was “man im gonna get played”, ok she only lives like 30 miles out from my town she called me after i gave her my cell number about 2 weeks after talking to her and said “whats up do you have anything going on this weekend?” my reply was “im going to be at a festival my towns has every year” her reply “well im gonna be bored all weekend so can i come and hang out?” my reply “sure come on its gonna be awesome”. ok after that we set up what time we needed to meet up and all that kinda stuff, well next moring i get a call saying she wont be able to catch the festival cause one of her friends are getting married she sort of forgotten all about it, i was like “well i knew i shouldnt have got my hopes up” i go on too our festival and try to have a good time. she calls me! saying shes on her way well by this time the festival is already over. well we make due and hang out around town with her friends she got to tag along. well we hit every thing off no moments of feeling really out of place just a convo like we knew each other all our lives, we stayed friends for about a week then started dating and about 2 months later i asked her to marry me. she said yes and now where the most happy people on the planet….

If you like Journey, you need to see the cover band Evolution! I saw them last night at the Colonial Theater in Pittsfield, MA.

This guy looks/sounds/acts exactly like Steve Perry!!!

The website has demo videos… so you be the judge!!

Neal Schon (Guitar player in Journey) - Hugo was actually a singer that…..when we were looking for a new vocalist, we considered checking him out and then I saw pictures of the guy that completely freaked me out… he looks exactly like Steve Perry! The guy didn’t get a fair chance to even try out with us but I hear he’s very good.

Go check out the band at http://www.journeyshow.com

Yo, Chris — he has his daughter to thank: “She posted a MySpace page of DeCarlo singing karaoke to Boston songs after the band’s lead singer, Brad Delp, committed suicide in March 2007.”

And he *does* sound like Brad.

[...] The rest, as they say, is history. DeCarlo debuts with the band’s summer tour on 6 June in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They play Seattle’s Marymoor Park on 10 July. (tip) [...]

I did not hear about this anywhere but through Chris’ email. Really a great story! I went to the MySpace page and loved the songs. Would have gone to hear Boston, but they are not playing anywhere close to me.

Where have I seen something similar? The movie “Rock Star”

This is a very inspiring story. I did research on him and wrote his Wikipedia article, and he is definitely going down in musical history.
