I do however know what good sound is and since Vista has managed to totally ruin the sound I am extremely dissatisfied with the sound.I have an Acer Aspire 5000 notebook and use jetAudio as my player. Since changing over to Vista Home Premium what i hear is jerky, scratchy sound that even the worst 8 track player could not possible duplicate.I upgraded the Realtek drivers but that hasn't helped the matter at all.Anyone have any definitive suggestions as to what I can do to get the level of sound that is free of the defects I would be glad to hear from you..Thanks,Len

First off I have to say that I not exactly a technophobe. And if the poster has added their favorite driver or sound card they feel the issue is with that particular sound card and Windows Vista.
But the same problem occurs with windows generic drivers rite out of the gate.
Truly this is a Microsoft problem, there is something definitely wrong here and it could be that microsoft is so focused on supplying surround sound options it has over looked basic audio for our stereo mp3 and wav files.
Thinking they need a swift kick in the rss.

The biggest problem being that very few audio manufacturers are actually supported and if they are, their drivers are generally very basic with no audio tools included. I have yet to hear anything more than stereo under XP where I have both 5.1 and 7.1 setups.Basically, for those of you with your HP Pavillions, it is very likely that the onboard sound device is NOT supported by Vista and you will have to invest in the minimum supported card for Vista. orry folks!

There are still many issues with Vista audio.
