Windows Vista Sound Driver Problem
http://live.pirillo.com/ - Meandyou can no longer control his bass and treble in Windows Vista, whereas he was able to control it in Windows XP.
The problem is probably related to a driver issue. If the sound card provider doesn’t fully support Vista, then you’re not going to have the same level of functionality that you had in Windows XP.
Microsoft, in Windows Vista, eliminated the Hardware Abstraction Layer. HAL allowed the direct sound data to pass through to the sound card, freeing up the CPU. So, the drivers that used to work no longer work, and the software that relied on HAL broke.
If you really miss treble and bass control you can:
- Use Windows XP
- Get speakers that support treble and bass control
- Get a sound mixer that can support treble and bass
- Or just wait until the manufacturer updates their drivers.
Do you have any suggestions?

Of the four workarounds (bullet list), I understood all but the third, which seems to have been written in an unfamiliar dialect. Care to translate?

There are still many issues with Vista audio. The biggest problem being that very few audio manufacturers are actually supported and if they are, their drivers are generally very basic with no audio tools included. I have yet to hear anything more than stereo under XP where I have both 5.1 and 7.1 setups.
Basically, for those of you with your HP Pavillions, it is very likely that the onboard sound device is NOT supported by Vista and you will have to invest in the minimum supported card for Vista. orry folks!

If you google for “Windows Vista Audio issues” you will see way to many people complaining about popping and crackling in their audio playback. And if the poster has added their favorite driver or sound card they feel the issue is with that particular sound card and Windows Vista.
But the same problem occurs with windows generic drivers rite out of the gate.
Truly this is a Microsoft problem, there is something definitely wrong here and it could be that microsoft is so focused on supplying surround sound options it has over looked basic audio for our stereo mp3 and wav files.
Thinking they need a swift kick in the rss.

First off I have to say that I not exactly a technophobe. I do however know what good sound is and since Vista has managed to totally ruin the sound I am extremely dissatisfied with the sound.
I have an Acer Aspire 5000 notebook and use jetAudio as my player. Since changing over to Vista Home Premium what i hear is jerky, scratchy sound that even the worst 8 track player could not possible duplicate.
I upgraded the Realtek drivers but that hasn’t helped the matter at all.
Anyone have any definitive suggestions as to what I can do to get the level of sound that is free of the defects I would be glad to hear from you..
Thanks,
Len

What’s wrong with this Vista.. God… It’s like Microsoft downgraded XP to this crappy weird version of a mass mind destructor.

hey guys,
i need 1 help…
I installed vista and i have an INTEL 945GNT motherboard with intel high definition audio integrated.
vista automatically installed all the drivers, and everything seems fine except the sound driver. is installed when i see the device manager, but when i click on the volume icon on systemtray it says no audio output device installed, and i cannot hear any sounds working here…
i even installed the audio driver which came with the motherboard, but vista doesnt take it… encounters problems… i mean not compatible.
