I am in withdrawal mode. My desktop computer running XP died and my new one running Vista is frustrating. I most miss Freecell XP. The new game is S L O W. hard to read the cards and generally unsatisfying.

I will try Dan’s solution. If it does not work I have my laptop that runs on xp.

By the way, the new WORD is not better. It has too many “features” in my face that I will not use. I could not even find the thesaurus and had to use an old fasioned dictionary.

I agree with everyone who says that XP freecell is better. I have upgraded to a computer using Windows 7 and although I have loaded freecell XP version on to it in the way descibed by Dan Tanberg for vista, it won’t work. Any help would be gratefully received. Also, does anyone know if this version can be played on line?

Yeah Vista’s Freecell is too easy. I’ve never lost a single game – over 600 games now, 100% won. Infinite Undo makes it impossible to lose. So the challenge is gone. Still kinda fun to find the moves and stuff, but there’s no thrill in winning when there’s zero risk of losing. It’s just the same old boring end of the game every time.

Which is exactly what we North Americans like, I guess. Sugar in our cheseburgers, paycheques without effort, children without the responsibilities of parenthood, governments and big companies to take care of us and do everything for us, someone to blame for everything. Soon we’ll all be lying in our beds with our virtual lives fed directly into our useless brains, and still whining that it’s too hard. Can’t blame Microsuck for selling what people keep buying.

For several months now I’ve been fighting with an obvious Free Cell update that half the time won’t let you drag, but rather decides for itself what I should do. Today I really got fed up and finally decided to try to find out what they did or better yet, how we can get it back to how it was. I personally like the undo feature, but it really drives me crazy that it preempts my moves. How can we contact them and tell them to put it back like it was before then screwed with it several months ago. HELP! Does anyone have any ideas?

I don’t see how you can do any worse than 100% on the Vista version of Free Cell now that it’s possible to undo moves clear back to the beginning. I’ve got several hundred consecutive wins since I began using the undo feature each game, and it seems unlikely that any game will be un-winnable in this version.

Update… I’m at 6921 games, 3131 wins in a row and at 92% Still haven’t gotten a game numbered over 33206. Do I hafta play over 30000 games to get one OVER 40000? I too thought the new version was odd, with a slow ending on a win until I learned to read the ricochets. Now I am rewarded with a sort of “degree of difficulty” display.

I am completely lost. I am looking at this page: http://chris.pirillo.com/windows-vista-freecelljpg/ looking for information about what MS has ruined with the Vista version of Freecell. All of the comments on the page refer to Freecell.. but there is no article at the top. I’ve looked at the page source but cannot see any comments near the picture (http://chris.pirillo.com/_photos/Windows%20Vista%20-%20FreeCell.jpg) at the top of the page, but there is no text.

Very strange.

Vista freecell is screwed up. After you save a game it continues to bring back the same game everytime you open the game up, even when you don’t save it.
When I open the game it brings up the same game every time I make one move and it’s a win. It’s slow hard to view and to easy.

Big ugly bug in the vista Freecell stats. play a game until you have only one card to play to win. Then exit. Then start again.
You will get the same game. Win the game. Exit. Start again.
Clear the stats. play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
…
You can rack up thousands of won games and no losses.

OF COURSE Vista Freecell is a waste, just like most of Vista. The entire Vista phenomenon reminds me of Dennis Kucinich’s address to the DNC, named “Wake Up, America.” Wake up, computer users! Microsoft’s new versions of WHATEVER are geared mainly to creating demand for something we don’t need and is just going to make us spend more for less service.

BTW, anyone who never figured out that you could determine the suit of a never hidden ace in XP Frecell by right-clicking the ace spot, totally deserves the ponderous, bloated, moronic version of Freecell that came with Vista.

Vista totally sucks. I only got it because to get a new computer from Dell with XP instead of Vista would have cost much more than I could afford. Dell is under Microsoft’s thumb. Mac next time.
