Vista freecell is screwed up. After you save a game it continues to bring back the same game everytime you open the game up, even when you don’t save it.
When I open the game it brings up the same game every time I make one move and it’s a win. It’s slow hard to view and to easy.

Big ugly bug in the vista Freecell stats. play a game until you have only one card to play to win. Then exit. Then start again.
You will get the same game. Win the game. Exit. Start again.
Clear the stats. play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
Start again. Play the card and win. Exit.
…
You can rack up thousands of won games and no losses.

OF COURSE Vista Freecell is a waste, just like most of Vista. The entire Vista phenomenon reminds me of Dennis Kucinich’s address to the DNC, named “Wake Up, America.” Wake up, computer users! Microsoft’s new versions of WHATEVER are geared mainly to creating demand for something we don’t need and is just going to make us spend more for less service.

BTW, anyone who never figured out that you could determine the suit of a never hidden ace in XP Frecell by right-clicking the ace spot, totally deserves the ponderous, bloated, moronic version of Freecell that came with Vista.

Vista totally sucks. I only got it because to get a new computer from Dell with XP instead of Vista would have cost much more than I could afford. Dell is under Microsoft’s thumb. Mac next time.

I copied both Free Cell and Hearts from my XP computer to my Vista compter using the above instructions. It works great, except one glitch; they are both very small on my Vista computer. I can lengthen the Free Cell boh by clicking on the upper right corner or dragging with the mouse, but I cannot widen it. With Hearts, I can’t make it longer or wider by either means. Any suggestions? Thanks.

In the “classic” XP version of Freecell, simply right-click on any card to see the suit. Really? none of you knew that?

I love FreeCell, got hooked on the XP version, but I LOVE the vista version. In fact Freecell and Spider are the only two reasons that I run vista! I agree with Hamilton about being able to see the suit of the Ace. I also appreciate the ability to resize the game to fit as much of my monitor as I want, plus the flexibilty in how you can move the cards (ie, click here/click there, or drag and drop, etc). Plus I enjoy the eye candy and sounds, and (dare I say) the unlimited undo feature.

Does the above procedure copy your statistics? I’m about to give up this computer, and having amassed over 18,000 games, I’d feel kind of lost without the old stats I’m used to.

And what is the deal with the right clicking? When you right click a card in one of the free cells, it bounces down to the board, but there’s no logic in where it goes

i’m a freecell junkie and i feel the vista version is easier. i particularly like that i could see the suit of the ace in a hole. in the xp version you couldn’t tell the ace’s suit. i think a big advantage. what do you think.

I like the XP version of Freecell better too.
I am running my good old version of Freecell from windows XP under Vista. Here is one way to do it.

Get onto a computer running windows XP.

Search and copy these five files onto a disk or thumb drive:

CARDS.DLL
FREECELL.CHM
FREECELL.chw
FREECELL.EXE
FREECELL.HLP

On my old computer running XP, these were found in the following folders:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
FREECELL.EXE and CARDS.DLL

C:\WINDOWS\Help
FREECELL.CHM and FREECELL.chw and FREECELL.HLP

Copy these five files into the machine running Vista.
I put mine into
C:\Program Files\FreecellXP

Make a shortcut to
C:\Program Files\FreecellXP\FREECELL.EXE
and put in on your desktop or wherever. This seems to run just fine.

Pass this on to others who don’t like the Vista version
