Windows 98 CPU Cycles
“There are several solutions for accurately showing the CPU % usage on
Windows 98. Probably the best one is CPUIdle. All other CPU usage monitors
that I have looked at show an erroneously high figure on my AMD Athlon XP
1700+ processor. However, there are two other programs that show the
correct idle % – TaskInfo and WinTop. WinTop comes with the Windows Kernel
Toys (not supported by Microsoft, but written by their engineers) for win95
and is a free download. I am shrinking the vertical and horizontal size of
the window frame so I only see the % idle, and using the 'Always on top'
option. Unfortunately, the update interval is 2 seconds, and it is
hard-coded. Also, you can't undisplay the Title Bar or the Menu bar. It
does the job, though, if it's important to you to see how hard the
processor is working.” [Steven Groginsky]
