im still not sure about 7.
ive been on XP since it came out (both 32 and 64bit versions) and i didnt switch to vista since i couldnt see a difference at the time. i still dont see a difference with windows 7. so ill stick with my good old XP 64bit for now, but at least windows 7 has made me think about it, which vista did not.

I have been testing se7en for a while now and although it “is” vista in looks, the performance is phenominal compared to vista. Memory management is especially one of the a. It will all depend on the pricing as to wether I upgrade or not.

I sincerely hope to the lord above that this Windows 7 update is light years above and beyond Vista. Vista is really irritating me lately, more so than usual. System services just seem to stop running for no reason with no way to restart them. I can’t say that I’m all that excited about paying the upgrade cost, but if it fixed all the issues that I’ve had with Vista, so be it.

I hope windows 7 is a huge improvement from vista, but the point you made in your video, they want more money so they made it a new os rather than upgrade (i agree with you there), but i also believe that they are doing to get a fresh start, and get a new name. If it was just a upgrade to vista, i believe people would just think it is still vista, and it is still bad.

I won’t know what changes Windows 7 will contain in comparison to Vista, But the comment about the UAC, while it’s highly annoying, the only thing I see that could improve it is instead of verifying it everytime you load an app, (run as admin mode), Be able to keep all apps that need UAC in a list be automatically set to “Allow” to prevent from having to do it every time.

From what I’ve seen on YouTube Windows 7 looks very much like Vista with the most prominent exception being this dock-like taskbar at the bottom.
If they haven’t addressed Vista’s UI usability failures, Windows 7 won’t be anything I need to have.

The most annoying thing in Vista’s UI (apart from Vista’s most annoying and useless feature in general: UAC) is the constant highlighting of everything your mouse cursor happens to get over – in Explorer, for instance, I never know whether a file is indeed selected or not – it might just be your mouse cursor accidentally hovering above a file. There’s even a slightly darker version of the selection bar that apparently tells you the file “marked” with it is NOT selected. What gives?

And you know what – this is also an issue even with classic mode now and no option to be found to get rid of this behaviour. Bad move, MS, bad move!

By the way, if MS copies everything they see in Mac OS X why not including its superb keyboard shortcuts. Creating a folder in Explorer wit the keyboard is a pain in the *** (ALT+F(ile) then (Ne)W then F(older) instead of let’s say just SHIFT+CTRL+N like in SHIFT+CMD+N in Leopard), ’cause apparently for reasons I couldn’t figure out yet, keyboard control varies in an Explorer window and this “shortcut” does NOT always work. Again, MS, what gives?

Well, actually I have skipped whole vista, and I will head straight away to the Windows 7, from XP, My friend said it feels alot “smoother” on his pc than the XP.

I personally can’t wait for windows 7. I’ve seen screenshots, reviews and it’s looking very good. I wondering about the multi-touch though. You said you were going to try it out on the hp touch smart, do you happen to know if that particular screen is a multi-touch screen? Anyways, I hope this will be a definite upgrade from vista. I’m tired of the lag and slowness of vista. I almost went back to XP, but I waited it out.

I started a discussion at a-very-large webmaster’s forum & took pole & discovered that most of them are still on XP & waiting for se7en rather than switching to vista.

They’re eager to have better os than vista. & se7en looks promising by the reviews so far….

I’ve been using Vista for over a year now and i believe that it’s a huge step up from Windows XP. This can only be better. Apple has made huge advancements(from the media’s point of view), but people have to realize that Macs are going to eventually be just as venerable to virus’s etc as Windows. It’s just a matter of time. Don’t forget that Apple only has less than 10% of the market share.

However i also believe that it’s time that Windows completely revamps their operating system and leave their traditional code behind. Erase everything they’ve ever known about Windows and start from scratch. Only then in my opinion will they be able to compete and be less venerable to spyware, virus’s, and other bad stuff.

Well I agree.. haven’t really seen Windows 7 yet, but I am using Vista Ultimate.. its “nice” to watch, but I really don’t get anything special out of vista on a day to day basis…

I just wonder if we are seeing the end of the traditional windows/client OS… we seem to be on the cusp of moving to a true online world – I know MS have mentioned that, and you can see that having your computer either local or online would be cool… but it has to be smooth!’
