Will There Ever be a Twitter Killer?

Are you following me on Twitter yet? I know about 20,000 of you are! That’s a lot of people. I’m happy with what Twitter has given me: an easy way to keep up-to-date with others. It’s had its share of ups and downs, and many other sites have tried to compete. They just… didn’t work. The other sites just lacked the skill and know-how to even begin to match up to Twitter. Have you tried to create something like this? If so, you may want to check out Twingr. With Twingr, you can create a microblogging community and communicate with friends and other people that share your same interests.
- Keep up with everyone in your circle.
- Share your thoughts and get feedback from your colleagues.
- Start the conversation on what makes you tick.
- Learn about what you really care about.
- Your interests. Your needs. Your group.
Twingr is the place to bond with your group. Who knows? You might just create the Twitter Killer!

I don’t believe Twitter’s competitors lack skill. I think timing is the major factor. Those first in line have an advantage in that they are the first to build up their community. Pownce, for example, is a fantastic service.

Well, once Twitter enables group support, as they have already done in Japan, Twingr will lose any advantage that it has. Soon enough, Twitter will most likely have a secured platform that will compete with Yammer and other Twitter clones out there too .

Some of these twitter-want-to-bes try to imitate Twitter and even going to the extent of trying to surpass it, but you can’t top the original. It’s like have you ever watched a sequel to a movie and it was way better than the original? I haven’t.

Twitter is a great service which is getting more and more popular. It has a great thing going for it and its hard to imagine a service taking its place. Right now the only thing Twitter can do, to make sure its not killed off, like Best Buy did to Circuit City, is to improve. One way in which it can improve is by adding the ability for users to create niche-centric Twitter groups. People part of small twitter groups, who share common interests will benefit more from twitter. Introducing groups in twitter will make it easy for people to easily sort through the noise and find people who share common interest.

Ah, you never know, some sites are just fads for a while. Friendster was a big thing, MySpace was a big thing. We’ll have to see I guess. Maybe something running the script Identi.ca does, it’s an open script, there can be smaller more community based sites, like the one Leo has.
