Will Microsoft Buy Yahoo?

Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed

This video was recorded on the night of the big announcement that Microsoft had made an offer to buy Yahoo. I opened the phone lines, and one of the first questions that came in was “Will it really happen?” That’s a darn good question…

I personally think Yahoo would be crazy to pass up the offer from Microsoft. Yahoo is losing ground, and can only gain by getting stronger. They need to work with someone who can put power and money behind them. Yahoo is already planning to lay off at least 10% of its workers in the near future.

Of course, Google is still going to be a powerhouse. At the same time, by buying Yahoo, Microsoft could provide some much needed competition. Yahoo has an excellent foundation. Having the money and name from Microsoft behind them, they can really go much further. In my opinion, Microsoft will likely be able to take a page from Yahoo, and learn from some of the excellent things that Yahoo has done in the past.

Hey thats me on the phone!!! OMG! 0.o
Thank you chris for answering my question, and i agree on everything you said. Google will stay alive and well for A LONG Time.

~~~~Google
Three things I believe Microsoft probably wants to buy in Yahoo:
1) Search Marketshare
2) Datacenters (these are hard to build and power in the scale that big players want them)
3) Talent
I honestly do think that it will happen. Just not for 45 billion. I think that Microsoft will end up raising the bid a couple billion and Yahoo will accept!
Just Talk About It Online Community
I certainly agree with what you said. Microsoft in recent years hasn’t been as much as a “bully” to the community as the have in the past. I think that Microsoft is one of the few companies out there now that’s realizing that technologies are moving full force towards the web, as does Google. Rather than this being a move to compete head-to-head with Google (which it certainly is), I’m more thinking this is just another move by Microsoft to get more involved with the community.
Yahoo has done a fantastic job with this. Yahoo realized the social potential with Flickr and Delicious, as you mentioned. Yahoo gets it, and they have the brains to make these things happen and make the internet a better “web 2.0″ environment, if I may use that term arbitrarily. Microsoft on the other hand is trying to figure out how to tie these Web-based technologies in with the desktop market.
Just imagine what would happen if Yahoo was tied in directly with Microsoft research. I for one would wholeheartedly look forward to some of the things they would be able to put out both on the web and in the desktop environment. Yahoo brains with web technologies, Microsoft brings their resources and skills with desktop research technologies.
It’s a beautiful combination, when you think about it. As you said, Yahoo would be stupid to turn the offer down, not only for the money, but also for what it could really do for how we look at interacting with technology.
google and apple love each other too much…..
steve jobs will run over bill gates with a hummer H1 if he wanted to buy google
That would mark the beginning of the end, a good time to kill ourselves.
didnt google buy youtube?
i mean all the cookies and shit. when i type there my stuff comes out all fucked up. it just sucks bawls. hairy bawls.
why are u recommending errorkiller.com? looks like a big scam to me….
how ever certified it may be… http://www.tuneup.com is the serious alternative
for some reason i think youtube bought back b/c there is no more google logos on youtube anymore.
I would have to say this is very interesting. Google is “the all-time best friend” of all computer useres out there. However… Yahoo and Microsoft…. That is the question everybody is asking “How would it work out?”
I would have to say (opinion wise of course) that Google would STILL be the top, and Microsoft would just have another website… An interesting topic indeed…
Google and Apple Macintosh Vs. Yahoo! and Microsoft.
Davey1027 Google still owns youtube look at the bottom of the page says add to igoogle and go on Google videos site must the videos you find when looking link back to youtube
what if google, microsoft, and yahoo merged and called themselves “Internet”
that means my website will be on a MICROSOFT server? Screw that… Can I keep my URL and move to a different website provider? I don’t want to have MS host me.
microsoft search doesnt have relevant results
if google yahoo and microsoft merge it will become micrahoogle!
MSN and Yahoo front pages are nothing but a bunch of shit adds everywhere – if they both took their add makeup off their stinkin front page they would get more people to make it their homepage haha.
an interface like google can not be beat! it is simple and it isnt filled with a bunch of bull shit – its easy, and the way its meant to be – it has a name that people know – if you’re lookn for something anywhere people say like its a houshold name “GOOGLE IT”
PS BUY STOCK WHILE YOU CAN OF YAHOO – IT WILL SKYROCKET IF MICROSOFT WINS THE BID.
Just a bit of a tip :D
If this happends Microsoft will be called Mircohoo. Having Microsoft and yahoo teamed up together would be a pretty weird combination. This will be good for both companies as well. They would both have an influx in stock and they would have to merge email cilents.
lol theyve been in bed before
If Microsoft buy Yahoo I think it will not work, Yahoo will slump, loosing 10% of the workforce is a bad thing.
IF they [Microsoft] buy Yahoo, I think they will need a 3rd Party to throw in different perspectives.
Thats my opinion.
Thanks for the tip, my classmates and I are playing the Georgia stock market game and th inforemation you have given me is wanting me to BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!!
Also, yes the stocks in the game are based off of real live stocks…
I would while it is a bit cheaper – once microsoft aquires yahoo it will be going up like a rocket and be nothing but gains for at least a year. I think personally that when the new windows comes out – yahoo + microsoft together will have something to do with the OS concidering the features that people are talking about (even though vista is still a baby!)
i just found out today feb 11 that microsoft didnt buy yahoo and they r requesting somewhere around 50 billion instead of 46 or whatever.
You look smart, but your idea is useless.
Google is the best beats MSN and Yahoo.
i hate people that talk like there better than them cause idk… its annoying..
What Do You Think?
