Why Would You Want a Sony Mylo?

I have been playing with the Sony Mylo Persoal Communicator for several hours now. I was attracted to this because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. The screen resolution was so sharp when I first turned it on, I was taken aback. I honestly thought there was a sticker on the screen making it look that way at first.

The Wi-Fi Sony® mylo® internet device gives you what need to stay connected. It conveniently uses wireless LAN technology so there are no monthly bills or long-term contracts. Call your friends on Skype® for free or IM them on AIM®, Google Talk™, or Yahoo!® Messenger using the back-lit slide-out keyboard and enjoy unparalleled communication in the palm of your hands. You can also browse the Web, take photos and share them on the 3.5-inch LCD touch screen. All this on a device small enough to take virtually anywhere. Sony® mylo®, the fun of a PC in your pocket. Also available in white.

Now you can capture video using the built in camera to capture video in MPEG4 in addition to capturing still images. There are many websites where you can upload photos and videos like Flickr™ and YouTube™ as well as social networking websites. Because our device supports uploading and downloading files mylo® Internet Device owners can post content to many of these popular content websites.

A widget is a small application that is generally designed to do one simple thing but to do it really well. COM-2 comes with several pre-installed widgets that range from basic like the Google search widget and the Facebook® Notifier that tracks activity on your Facebook page to more advanced apps like the My Contacts widget that works as a consolidated buddy list for all the IM applications on the mylo. In addition to the preinstalled widgets COM-2 users will be able to download new widgets from the new COM-2 product website. And, for the first time, users will be allowed to register as a developer in order to gain access to the technical resources they will need to build their own widgets.

Use your Mylo to browse the Web, use Instant Messengers, take pictures, listen to ShoutCast radio, and even call someone on Skype. There’s just so much you can do with this little gadget, you will wonder why you used to lug around a laptop.

If you already have a PSP, you’ll probably want to stick with it. However, if you’re in the market for a mobile device like this, the Sony Mylo is the way you should go. The screen is very crisp, and honestly amazing. The Mylo works very well for everything you’d probably need to do on the go.

That looks really cool!

The Nokia N810 is more impressive to my mind. out of the box it does all that and more and has more expandability.

It looks kind of thick and lagging performance-wise. Of course I can’t evaluate it from a video, but I don’t find it particularly attractive (UI & hardware design).

Except you can’t put homebrew on the Mylo like you can with the PSP. Which makes the PSP have a higher level of functionality.

Hey nice review of the sony mylo, a similar device that I’m fond of is the nokia n810, it also features a hi-res screen as well as wifi, bluetooth and GPS.
I think the n810 is more of a computer in a small form factor and the sony mylo as a communicator but i prefer the n810 as I’m more of a computer nerd.

i have a sony mylo and its really cool.

Chris,

Can I have that one? I have absolutely no reason that you should give it to me and please know I am not a jerk that expects you to, I just got the urge to ask. So… Can I?

Thanks either way, if you send it thanks for that. :) If you do or don’t…. thanks for having a killer site.

It wants to be an iPod touch really

Hmm…looks good exept that it has the shitty PSP browser (sony, one word: opera!)
Also no MSN, no thanks!

Hello Chris.
My name is Mitchell. I have a Sony Mylo COM2 device as well. I love it very much, but I have found one teeny weeny problem. Do you know anything about and if it is possible to get WL Messenger on it? I know that before I bought it, I realized that it indeed did not have it. That didn’t keep me from getting though. If not, that’s fine. I can do without it. I was just wandering. Please try to email me back!
Thanks,
Mitchell
