Opeth is my favorite swedish artist. If youve never heard them chris imagine the most mellow singer songwriter music fused with quite heavy metal. Mostly in one song.
They do have one mellow songs to. Go on your streaming website and check out random songs from the “damnation” record aswell as “ghost of perdition” or “the drapery falls” to get an idea of their typical musical style.
im not sure that you will like them, but if your as open minded as me (i love anything from joni mitchel, the zombies, black sabbath, bathory, weakling, radiohead, coldplay, bill withers, yes, genesis, tool ANYTHING GOOD!) you may find some enjoyment out of their tunes.
Good sombre music for a rainy day for sure. Also check out Porcupine Tree, they are similar to the bends era Radiohead but more “progressive” if you will. Sorry for the long winded response but i love talking about music, specificly those 2 bands.
take care.

Concerning that first poster’s response, I love Opeth too! And ‘OK Relayer,’ summarized Opeth’s sound pretty well — just wait till their newest cd Watershed is released (which I’m sure Rhapsody will have) and then start trying Opeth out…
BUT! I think the greatest band to come out of Sweden is Meshuggah. One of the greatest of all time!
Take care Chris!!
Love your stuff.

Thanks for the post and fabulous editing job, Chris. Delighted I can share this with friends and fam, (to my infinite embarrassment, I admit).
And thanks, Chris’ readers for your input on music. Love it!
