I have to agree that the PSP is better than the DS. Don’t get me wrong the DS is a great GAME maching, but that’s it. The PSP is so much more. Movies, games, music, wifi, pictures. If you are running custom firmware on the PSP it will also run 3rd party apps like ebook readers, email clients, map viewers, and more.

i Love my DS there are so many games. i have a PSP but its just a ROM player and collecting dust i cant get enough of my DS

i personaly think that the sony psp is the best.

i agree that the PSP is way better, i don’t own an IPod or any other mp3 player. So basically i use my PSP for everything, videos, pictures, music and games. it is the best form of portable media (in my opinion) ever!.
i honestly don’t know how anyone could even compare the DS to the PSP, does the DS even play mp3s?. I think its just the touch screen feature that everyone likes and i don’t think that its really all that much to be saying that DS rules over PSP.

I agree with you completely. I love UMDs. they are a great media type. I do not however think the DS is a bad handheld, It is great for on the go, pick up and play casual games. New Super Mario is an awesome game. I think the PSP also has some other great features, like its web browser, mp3 playback, video playback etc. I also think the DS is a good handheld for some people.

I really don’t like the Nintendo DS that much. Sorry to all haters but it seems to kiddy. I don’t know if I have problems, but the PSP looks more appealing to me. And as far as gameplay goes, the DS doesn’t play most of those mature games.

Hey Chris, I just have to say I love gaming, but I really dont like Sony Products. Until they released the PSP..well I fell in love. I love now how the PSP has Skype. I also love just hacking into it, and putting Vista on mine, or OS X. Nice video!

I have a DS, but not a PSP. I really enjoy the functionality and the technology that Nintendo has put in to their device. However I do agree that it would be nice to be able to watch movies or TV on it.

better graphics, better sound, media friendly out of the box, just as light and small now…and good action & rpg games… negative is some 3d games are a bit clumsy with the controls but check out CHAINS OF OLYMPUS now that’s a good implamentation. fun fun fun. :D

DS Lite- well if you got friends with DS’ then only option with DS but you wont get all the fun , bell and whistles that PSP has … you can hack it with R4 though… as for games… mostly has cutesy games and less complex games..
like you’ll see more 2d scrollers on DS than on PSP.

You might think why? Here is my answer: Try to put a Nintendo game into a PSP…it doesn’t work! I think every game-console should read the Nintendo games, otherwise it’s not a good console! =D

As I had stated before, Nintendo completely DOMINATES the handheld gaming market. Sony is doing fine but it has no where near the market share of the handheld GAMING market that Nintendo has. So I think I’m not seeing the case you’re trying to make?

As far as mobile video and movies, I’m in agreement with you. Sony has that because of the UMD format. That, however, is something else entirely. Nintendo is in the GAMING business and they’ve dominated handheld gaming for close to two decades. Market share? Nintendo has a lot more than Sony.

The UMD is a flop just like the Sony PRO DUO was/is. UMD is Sony proprietary format anyways so I doubt Nintendo would be able to get a licence to use it. Sony has a history of inventing proprietary formats/devices for use with their systems and while they may gain traction at product launch, the market is never sustainable and they fall to the wayside of standardized, freely available formats.

You watch… in a couple of years you’ll be finding UMDs at fleamarkets for pennies on the dollar.

The arguement Chris is making is basically this:
“The PSP is a better handheld-video playback device because…. the PSP can playback video and the DS cannot.”

I think the phrase “The PSP is a better handheld gaming device because…” is totally misleading and doesn’t apply to his argument.

I say shame on Sony for not making the PSP use Nintendo DS games. I have all these Nintendo DS games that I can’t play in my PSP, how useless is that? The slot for a Nintendo DS cartridge is smaller then the slot for a UMD, so I don’t see why Sony couldn’t add support for it.

I would definitely say both the DS and PSP are great.

The DS is probably better with games. (I say probably because I’ve only owned 4. Lost my fourth one a while ago.) So many games with Wi-Fi, local, and just great gameplay.

But as far as homebrew goes, I’d say the PSP is better just because you don’t have to pay anything extra for homebrew unless you want a bigger memory stick.

Even though this was a April Fools joke, I still believe the PSP is way better than the DS. Three reasons, 1.The PSP plays music, video, and you can view photos. 2.Wireless Internet support. The DS has no wireless internet support at all. The PSP supports even security encrypted wireless internet. 3.Better graphics and games. The PSP has way better games than the DS. Yes I like Mario and Zelda games but I like racing games and fps games. My conclusion is to buy both. One for Mario and one for Medal of Honor.

I have used both the DS and the PSP, and I have to say the PSP is way better. I remember when the DS first came out, all my friends at school had one. They spent the whole day pictochatting away….but once the little fascination with the touch screen died away, they got bored and they all ended up getting PSP’s xD. I also have to say that once you get custom firmware on the PSP, it’s like the greatest thing ever. I’ve got ebooks, roms, umd images, videos, and all sorts of things on it. In fact, with irshell and Tipster’s Unzipper, I can basically transfer any file to my psp from my computer’s apache server at any place with wireless internet. The graphics are better too, the screen is awesome, great games on it (gta, lots of ps1 games, patapong..)…just a bit more expensive, but it’s worth it in my opinion. Lol and Ive also tried DS homebrew on my friend’s DS, its complete crap compared to that for DS. The only reason I think the DS has more market share is because of kid appeal. My little sister wanted a DS just to chat with all her buddies…she obviously didnt know the DS has like a 50 feet range.

Man, UMD is a retarded idea. Oh, look, we’re going to retail movies that can only be played on a portable console, and we’ll retail it for full price, even though the quality is lower than on a DVD, so noone’ll want to watch it on a TV, which you can’t. It wasn’t untill slim was released that you could se the movies on the TV. The DS has worse graphics, but the games are so much more fun.

yeah but even if the UMD’s are rubbish it can still play movies off of a memory stick + a built-in web browser would have been so much better

PSP by a long shot. It’s got internet, plays movies, music and pictures. I do a lot traveling for my work going to various schools and always take a laptop and my PSP. I pack light and can always find room for flash cards with movies and music for my PSP. Used my g-sons DS and it reminds me of an Atari!

I have a PSP and a DS also. I hate to say it to you all but I have done some research and whichever one you get first DS or PSP most people tend to like better. I have like 8 friends I have done this research on. I got PSP first so I like it better. Some of my friends got DS first and they like it better. While others got PSP first and still love it. I don’t see why everyone has to fight over them! They are two great systems that anyone can enjoy if you are not already taking a side.
So before posting more hate comments maybe give the other console a break and maybe try playing it.

I have heard so many people say that the psp and the DS can’t be compared, and I agree, they can’t. They are two completely different machines. The DS beats the psp by far in gaming, which leaves the psp in the category of other media devices that can play movies, music, or use internet and such. In my opinion I say that the psp fails at this too. The music, picture, and video features are fine – not bad, but not the greatest – but the internet is just so frustrating, I absolutely hate it’s set up, it is so hard to use. There are lots of other devices out there that can do this much better; like an I phone for example, hell, there are even plenty of regular cell phones that can do that.

So, if I had to sum it up, and compare them in their ability to fulfill their purpose, then the DS wins by far. The DS was made just for gaming, and in turn, the games for it are great; they are fun to play on your own, they have great replay value, and they are fun to play with friends. The psp was made for game, movies, pictures, internet, and chatting, and the product just can’t beat other devices that were solely made for either games or media.So if you want something that is great for gaming, then get a DS, if you want a multipurpose media device, then don’t waste your money on a psp that is barely sub par,
