There are places I wouldn't go alone after dark in most large cities in the USA, but with a bit of research and common sense, I can still see most places in those cities. Travelers who are seriously apprehensive can still go to Victor's no-nos as part of a safe organized tour. Victor sounds a bit paranoid.
