My brother Adam is an artist, who is very passionate about art of all kinds. He has a live stream now. So if you’re into art or even music, why not drop by and visit him? You may even catch him live at work on a painting.
YOU all got him into this live streaming business. I recently visited Adam in Iowa for a few days, and streamed live from his living room. He became addicted quite easily. He loved the interaction with all of you, so thank you for that! Take it easy on him though. He’s not a computer geek like me… he’s an art geek. Don’t throw computer questions at him, or he’ll likely tell you where you can go.
Adam has a lot of opinions, and he stands behind them 100%. I’m proud of him for that. I enjoy watching him on his stream, and I hope you will, as well.

Discussing art online on the web? Simple. http://www.deviantart.com this is an absolutely wonderful site that I use everyday to discuss and learn about art as well as new forms of art. I am very interested about your brother’s story how he got into live streaming and I will visit his stream.
Thanks for the blog post Chris!

Its kinda fun to watch his stream. Even if art is not my thing.
p.s. Is it just me or are the videos not working right? Every time I try to watch a video it says that its not aviable. But if I copy and paste the link into firefox it plays fine directly from the youtube site

My art forum of choice would have to be Deviant Art for a number of reasons. I’m not certain it’s a discussion forum more than a sharing one, but I would say art, for the most part, discusses itself. I have been an art critic since the age of 3, so says my mom, and I love to share art with others. I find that the best art tells it’s own story, it tells you what it feels like, it tells you what you should feel like. A picture is indeed worth a thousand words.

I’m not a big art person. I appreciate art but I don’t have any artistic abilities. I watched a couple of your brother’s recorded videos on USTREAM. He seems like a really nice guy. I made him a USTREAM friend so I can follow him.

The internet has to some extent been a self selection way of exchanging information. The interests and passions that do not lend themselves to technology in the past have not found much of an outlet on the web. That of course has changed as media production and consumption have been greatly increased by the innovations in social networking and distribution. The ease in which artists and musicians can showcase there works has open their possibilities but of course the problem of standing out in crowd is even more pronounced on the web.

Its always a sweet deal when you can influence a sibbling into something good. So far all my sisters know about computers is how to find the pretty green button that turns it on and how to put up graphics on their myspace that make your eyes bleed.. but hey, at least they have stop sending the my little pony post cards….

Some people say its not an art, but I go to http://www.hovercontrol.com to discuss the art of Flight Simulation, or more specificly, Helicopter Simulation. As a future pilot, it is most certainly an art to be able to make your simulator act like the real thing.
On the other hand, I used to be big on painting. I took several art classes and really enjoyed it but I noticed that you could hardly earn a living if you tried to have art as your primary job. I’ll try and drop in on Adam one of these days.
PS: What is your dad going to stream on, you do Tech, your brother does art, so what is left for your dad???

Hmmm…..I’m not an artist, but I know quite a few and I enjoy art too. My aunt is an artist, and I think that she will really enjoy your brother’s channel. I’m definitely going to tell her about it.
Hey, here is an idea. Why not teach art classes over the internet? You could have a secure live stream channel for people who pay your brother to learn how to paint. Why not even let the public join a class for free like a trial version or something? I think that would be really cool. I’m not an artist, but it might be fun to paint something though. Maybe even learn something about art or the history of art?!?!
I hope that you (or Adam) consider my idea, and good luck to you Adam!

usually when i want to discuss art online, i go to devianart.com, it’s a pretty interesting site that has message boards and allows you to post your own art on a social-networking type page. i don’t really do much art but it is pretty interesting to look at all this art, like just high schoolers who draw in their history class in their notebook will scan what they did and it’s just really interesting. they also have the ability to post stories they wrote. it’s basically just a way for people to share their ideas and express themselves better than just describing themselves on a facebook-like site that’s very generic.
such as:
interests: girls, music, movies, and girls
pretty much very generic but everyone usually has that. except of course if you were a girl.

He’s kinda like the artist version of you, you like tech and he likes art. What’s ironic is that I like both Art and Tech which is why I sign up for both Computer Science classes and Art classes and like drawing and programming.

I really don’t like Art. Like the Art you Draw, Paint, glue, etc. I don’t really know why I don’t like art. I just Haven’t been a artistic person. And when I found out that Art was a required class to graduate from my High School I really was dreading taking the class. Well it is almost the end of the semester, and I can’t wait to finish the class. So I don’t talk about art. But I do talk about different tech related things. On the Internet. On forums, and message boards. When I have a problem will post my problem and I seem to get a lot of responses rather quickly. So when someone helps me, I help others I look on the forums and look for questions that I can answer just as a way to say “Thank You”.

To answer the immediate question, I love to discuss anything art related on a little forum called. http://www.thephotoforum.com it is the nicest photography based online community I have ever come across. It has such an array of members ranging from young to old, with many different levels of photographic talent from people who just started clicking away on a cell phone camera to professionals that use tens of thousands of dollars worth of camera and lighting equipment. even people who strictly stick with film. Everyone is open minded, and nobody really acts superior to anyone else. If you’re one of the professionals, you treat everyone else as they’re on their way to your level, but in no way, inferior and unable to ever be on par with you.

The internet has got to be one of the best things to ever happen to artists. It exposes you to the WORLD, potentially. I think even eBay is a great way for anybody to try selling your art. My friend a few years ago, who really isn’t a serious artist and just likes to paint every once in a while, put her painting on eBay for giggles not thinking she would sell it. But sure enough, some one out there liked it and bought it (I don’t remember for how much, but so what, it’s gratifying just knowing that someone likes your stuff.)

My favorite site for online art is deviantart.com
Despite a recent influx of some arguably less desirable elements in the last 6 months in certain sections, it has submissions from professionsals and amateurs alike, a huge array of categories and styles, an endless selection to surf through, and a very friendly user interface. They are a home for both standard, and web based, art projects - everything from photography to interface mods.
It is one of the 12 web sites in my seats of honor upon my speed-dial page in firefox (right next to ustream in fact).

I’ve never been a real big fan of art. While I’ve been to a art musuem, a lot, I don’t find it real interesting. If its paintings, skip past me.. if its sculptures, keep on walking. If its Photography. STOP RIGHT THERE! Photography is an awesome way to express art. And, with the current low prices of GOOD digital cameras, anyone can be an artist in one form or another. With some quick training, or even just looking at others’ work… you, in a matter of a few hours, can be good enough for a state fair. I know several people who have done this. And a few have went on to take Photography courses, and 2 have even take it to a higher level and made it a career.

My sister is currently in her second year of college and her art major and she’s almost as much of a tech geek as I am. However, a local artist has his own website and I often discuss his art ventures there, even though I’m not the biggest art geek. Then there’s also the Creative website, which publishes it’s own art editing software. I believe that they have their own message board.

I’m not really into art to much… I can appreciate art, but I don’t really do anything art related online. I’ve heard of art communities like DeviantArt, and I visit NewGrounds for flash games and movies. NewGrounds is a flash artist community I guess, so I lied. But, I still can’t contribute to those artsy communities because: A. am terrible at drawing lot’s of things and B. I just don’t have the will/passion necessary.
On a “techy” note, adam.pirillo.com redirects to this:http://www.lockergnome.com/wp-signup.php?new=
So, I would have said something about Adam’s blog, but it isn’t working…

I think it’s fair to say that as an art form Photography has benefited hugely by the creation of the internet, even more so now with higher bandwidth getting to more people. The ability to flick(r) though hundreds of photos by any non-professional or professional photographer on the globe was literally impossible before the internet plodded along. But not only are services such as Flickr, Picasa, Facebook Photo App, allowing people to see what other people are shooting, but actually giving people the opportunity to shape how to the viewer or the creator perceives the world around them. When ever I post media online I always ask for comments, responses, criticism’s, suggestions because I want to see how people are perceiving something I see. Does this look, sound or feel the same for someone else? People prefer this, so lets do more of that! Things like that, are what I am thinking when I’m producing and creating media for the internet. If you can call it art…well art is in the eye of the beholder.

Back to my other idea of an online art class. Seriously I think that it would be cool.
All of Adam’s students could have a video conference with Adam and their paintings or paintings in progress. Adam then can give them tips, start on another project, or even upload some of his student’s pieces of works to a website. Maybe eventually selling some of the pieces. Why not? Is there anything like this out there right now? If there is, how can Adam improve it?
