What’s Your Favorite Keyboard?

For a long time, I was using the Microsoft Internet Pro keyboard. The reason I loved it so much is that it had two USB ports in the back. Microsoft stopped producing it, so I’ve been looking for a replacement for it.

My friend Moonglaive recommended this new keyboard. The Enermax Aurora Aluminum Keyboard looks pretty cool, eh? I thougt the keys themselves were aluminum. It turns out they’re plastic with some kind of silverish spray over them. The right Shift, and half the letters have paint worn off of them. The shell of the keyboard is metal, yes. It works very well, and has a couple of USB ports in the back. It also has audio pass-through, which is nice. It was a good keyboard all in all.

The next keyboard I tried out was the Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000. It works really well, and has a touchpad built in. This is the set I was using with my Windows machine, and it works really well for me.

Now, of course, I’m using a Mac as my primary system. So what keyboard am I using? The thin Wireless keyboard from Apple is great. It’s super thin, and I haven’t even had to change batteries! It’s bluetooth enabled, which is really nice. The Apple Wireless Keyboard has been completely redesigned, inside and out. It features an elegant, ultra-thin anodized aluminum enclosure with low-profile keys that provide crisp, responsive feel. It also has function keys for one-touch access to a variety of Mac features such as screen brightness, volume, eject, play/pause, fast-forward and rewind, Expose, and Dashboard. Its compact design fits on your lap or on even the most crowded desk. And its Bluetooth wireless technology lets you use it just about anywhere within 30 feet of your Mac.

The keyboard automatically powers down when you’re not using it and turns on instantly as soon as you start typing. This intelligent power management means you’ll get up to nine months of battery life based on average usage patterns. It also has an on/off switch for when you’re away from your computer for a long time.

the laptop kind, you know, the ones that have thin keys, not like the 3 inch deep keys….

My favourite so far has had to be the EZ keyboard. I know, it sucked for most people, but for me it just worked. The amount of function buttons was just right for me, and i found myself using it almost constantly when I had the choice between it and my laptop.

Right now, I’ve got the Saitek Eclipse II, and it’s not bad at all. I know what you meant when you said it was a little high, but I don’t have the problem of a keyboard drawer.

Good Video Chris Just After Seeing You Use The New Apple Keyboard For Weeks Just Bought On Myself Love The Show And Keep It Up

Right now I use a aluminium keyboard made by Enermax and I love it. Only con is it’s wired. Would be perfect if they made a wireless version. The Apple wireless is slick too, if only they made a full sized one with num pad.

I have the “wired” version of the new apple keyboard, and I really like it.

I know I’m weird, but I prefer ‘laptop’ style keyboards over anything else, and this one is perfect for me. As a matter of fact, I am typing this while using my laptop which runs Vista exclusively.

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000.

No USB ports, but I like typing on this style keyboard. I bought a spare for $25, and it’s in the closet. This keyboard will be worn out at some point.

Of course, I also use the Microsoft trackball explorer, which isn’t made anymore. I don’t have a spare for that one.

Choice of keyboard, of course, depends on what you’re using it for (not to mention things like finger strength, hand size, etc.). For writers like me, ye olde IBM Type M keyboards are top notch simply for the solid feel of typing on ‘em. You can still buy them at http://www.clickykeyboards.com, too, or the modern equivalent from Unicomp.

A great alternative (and one that appears on “best of” lists all the time) is the Saitek Eclipse II — again, it’s about the feel of the keys. Writers and gamers love it.

And the Keytronic EO3600 is another good alternative. It has great key feel (almost as good as the Type M) although they’re not built nearly as well.

All these are focused on writing, not multimedia (although the Saitek has basic playback and volume controls). They’re simple, streamlined, and darned effective.

Right now I’m using the logitech wave keyboard. It works fairly well. The curved design is quite unique, and I think this design actually works well. It’s ergonomic, but not over the top like the microsoft natural keyboard, where it’s essentially split down the middle. This keyboard is pretty much a standard keyboard. The good thing about this, is that you wont’ effectively have to re-learn how to type.

I’m showing my age when I reveal that I’ve judged keyboards by comparing them to the IBM Selectric typewriter my parents bought me for college. For years I held on to my first Mac keyboard - the one I got with the SE/30 because it came close to the feel of the IBM typewriter. Then I bought a Mattias TactilePro having tried one out at a computer store. It was hideously expensive for a keyboard but I love it. I also like the keyboard on my MacBook - meaning the new low profile Mac keyboard is to my liking as well. I’m using it on my iMac at home and took the Tactile Pro to work.

I Would really love to have an Apple Wireless Keyboard, but I am waiting for there to be fully supportive 3rd party hardware for it, to make sure it all works.

Right now I am using the Second Generation of the Logitech G15. The differences for the First and Second is; the First one has 54 G Keys, the new version only has 18 G keys (Three banks of 6). They both have LCDs, the newer version is way more sleek.

I hope to buy a Mac Keyboard for my PC soon!

The Enermax keyboard seemed like a great choice for me so I bought it after watching your recommendation. There are a couple issues I wish to share with anyone that considers to buy this keyboard, it takes a lot of pressure to press keys and the finishing on the keys tends to fade off really fast, even with casual typers.
The new apple keyboard is amazing, i wonder if its possible to use it on a windows machine…

YO. Great video. When I was thinking of only getting a wired mac keyboard for the usb and the ten key, but i think I’m going to get the wireless one now. Thanx for the vid.

V.

I use the DAS Keyboard: http://www.daskeyboard.com/ The best keyboard I ever had.

I’m currently using an MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 at work, and am quite happy with it. Given significantly more disposable income, though, I’d get a Kinesis Advantage Pro keyboard. I rented one for a couple of weeks once, and loved it (even though the symbols were in the wrong place, because I was remapping to Dvorak in Windows, instead of using one of Kinesis’s own Dvorak keyboards.

My favorite keyboard is Saitek’s Eclipse II

http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/keyboards.htm

All the letters are back lit and you can choose from 3 colors red, blue, or purple. Its heavy and built tough. I’m on my second Saitek keyboard the previous being “gaming Keyboard” the Eclipse is really the second version of it. My previous one is still working and is now on my Linux box. It also comes with software to run macros etc. I recommend them to everyone who wants a tough easy to see keyboard :)

BitBurner

I like thicker ones…

isnt the up and down arrow on the new apple keyboard also the page up and down…you just gotta press the fn key.

same with left and right as home and end.

Screw keyboards, tablets FTW lol

The Apple Keyboard because it sticks to the desk nicely, is sturdy, has a spot for each individual button, and can be used as a hub with two additional USB ports.

My favorite is my current- the default Compaq one that came with my computer. It’s got a sleep button, volume/mute, and the keys are similar to a laptop. The keys are great for gaming, and the volume is great since I use headphones.

logitech g15 hands down… i have it right now and its fantanstic i love it

I actually have the same keyboard. Typing on it RIGHT NOW. lol

It’s pretty nice, surprisingly. Especially for coming from Compaq.

BTC 9116 saves a lot of space.

My personal favorite is the Logitech G15 Keyboard. I love the baacklight and the little sub screen.

Tips for keeping dogs from falling of desk:
1. Don’t let dog on desk
2. Install shock collar system on desk
3. Install trampoline under desk to allow dog to bounce back up to desk
4. Get the dog its own desk with a slide on it so it can have it’s fun else where
5. Keep treats taped to the wheels of the chair to keep the dog on the ground…
Please don’t take these tips seriously they are just a joke..

I Have a Microsoft wireless desktop 5000 combo that works just fine and its ergonomically approved, so no carpel tunnel for me.

I want a IMac,and i dont know what keyboard to get, the wired keyboard or the wireless one?

If you’re an avid PS3 gamer, then you know the importance of saving your progress for future game play.
Pls, help me!

apply keyboard =) because the look and design is awesome functionality is great too!

I like old keyboards. :P

I have used many keyboards over the years some of which I liked and some of which I didn’t like. My current keyboard and my favorite keyboard is the Ideazon Zboard ZBD-101 USB Gaming Keyboard. I first bought it just for gaming, but the realized how springy the normal keyset is. I also like the keyboard because it has the two usb ports on the front, and because it has the media buttons which allow me to control the volume.

I use keypads, keyboards are a thing of the past. it lets me type two sentences at the same time. and can write poems by itself.

9:10 hahahahahaha poor dog

i love my G15 from Logitech the best thing ever

Report Chris to the animal authorities!

I have been using a Logitech Elite keyboard for quite a few years now. It works like the day I bought it, so I have not replaced it.

My keyboard is wired. I don’t need wireless for the way my desk is setup. I know some of you have to have everything wireless, but if you don’t need it, why pay extra for it?

I have always been puzzled by the fact that even on Apple keyboards, the Alt key is still always called ‘Alt’, even though it’s called something different in all Mac manuals. (I switched from Windows to Mac some years ago, but still can’t remember what the Mac word is - doubtless because the key is still labelled ALT!)

I love my Macs and keyboards, but another small thing I find amiss is that Mac keyboards don’t seem to have a hash key.

Love to the Microsoft Reclusa i have =) but i actually like the look and feel of the Logitech Dinovo edge =)

I love the model SK-6000. Its one of the original ergonomic keyboards. Since I learned to type, the number 6 is typed by the right index finger. Microsoft has tried to change that. Their ergonomic keyboards utilize the left index finger. I’m not about to relearn how to type because Microsoft feels the left index finger should hit the 4, 5, & 6 keys leaving the right index finger for only the 7 now. This keyboard also raises the wrist support up to make the keyboard more level. Very comfortable to type on. Unfortunately no one sells this great keyboard any more. So, I’m having to search Ebay and places like that. I currently have one at my office and one at home.

The old NORTHGATE OmniKey Ultra was my keyboard of choice for well over a decade — alas, this winter I staticked it to death just walking by it on a winter day and touching it by accident. There is a company which makes equivalent replacements for something like $150, and I will have to look into this when I get my round tuit.

A good, solid, tacticle keyboard is a thing of beauty and a joy forever — a cheezy, chintzy, floppy one is an abomination and a hissing!

aluminium apple keyboard!! :D best keyboard ever made :D

Love my Logitech G15, the LCD screen is programmable, but really is just fluff.

Love the Saitek’s Eclipse II, the backlighting and colours and mashability are awesome.

But mainly, my MOST FAVOURITE keyboard has to be the On Screen Keyboard, built into Windows. It never breaks, batteries never run out, never have to get up when on the couch to find a real keyboard. Teaches good mouse pointing skills. (good for those mine sweepers out there). Sure, ok, it may be slower.

The best keyboard I have ever owned, would have to be the one I am using right now, the Microsoft Internet Keyboard. It’s comfortable, the keys have a nice and natural tactile response, If you spill your coffee on it, it’s not the end of the world, the liquid will drain out the bottom. you can also take it apart and clean it easily.

Best of all, it’s one of the cheapest keyboards out on the market.

My favorite keyboard are the ones that I don’t feel a great sense of loss if one of the kids spill something on it.

My kids found a way to destroy a “virtually indestructible” keyboard. The $9.00 one that we had bought 2 years ago, still works. Go figure.

Same, great keyboard,
but why isnt it called G18, theres 18 of those keys

im thinking of buying it and i was wondering … why is there a small screen on top of it ? its also 119 $, i can get other keyboards for 30 $ is it really that great ?

yah the screen really helps ingame… u can tell wat time it is and u can tell wats the fps computer performance and the g keys are nice and all the keys are backlight making it easy to read at night and i got mine for $50 at circuit city after rebate so yah…

wow thanks for your help you convinced me lol

lol cool dont worry u wont be sorry :P

I have an huge, old Dell AT101W. I call it “the clacker”. This baby’s LOUD!! Each key clicks on the way down, and on the way up. Love that machine-gun sound when I’m going full speed. It’s so solid I could beat you all to death with it and then neatly type out my confession - Love spreading the sunshine :)

Has anyone tried the Kensington “Keyboard for Life”? What do you think of it?

Chris,
My favorite keyboard has to be the Thin Apple keyboards. I have both the wired and wireless versions. I use them on both my macs and my windows machines at work and at home. I love the response from the keys and the short distance that you are required to push in order to type.

4four1ones

my fravorite keyboard is the logitech g15 v1
dont like v2 because has less g keys

Oh this is an easy decision for me the Logitech g11 is perfect for me I am a casual gamer and a geek. so I use the hotkeys to have compiz’s special effects. BTW that is a very sleek keyboard you chose!

Im very picky at keyboards too. Ive used the Dell slim keyboard or whatever you call it but it broke down around a year or so. So first keyboard set i got was the Logitech s510 package. It was horrible because the mouse was inaccurate the keyboard lagged event though i liked the design, next was the Microsoft 5000. Pretty good took out a good amount of space on my desk but like 2 months later mouse started acting up so i returned it. That ended my wireless journey. Next in line was the logitech wave, i ended up using it for a week and returned it because it sucked typing was awkward because it just felt something that was totally new and different. After that was the microsoft curve 2000 which i would say is one of the best keyboards ive used because its quiet it has laptop key but it doesn’t rip off. Only con thing about it is it lacks an arm rest and that is why i plan to return it today at walmart, hopefully they will let me because i don’t have the box but only have the receipt. Ok to today i am using the newest model of the g15 keyboard. So far been using it for 2 days and its excellent. It has an arm rest which makes typing comfortable, led lights, lcd screen, way enough programmable keys for my usage since im not a hardcore gamer that needs like 30 keys to program just for games. Only thing is that it takes up fairly around of space so i have the keyboard on top of the desk instead of the keyboard tray which i don’t have problems which besides sometimes eating but i can tun my chair and eat at the table. So as for keyboard i would recommend the g15 to anyone’s use because its one hell of a good keyboard not just for gamers but for anyone.
