Yes we heard of those possibilities and it did happen. Fortunately, I was able to remove the cause. The FDD shorted. The pin that caused the short was found but the reason was unknown. It was a fast spreading fire. There was a lot of smoke This happened while the FDD was being replaced. There was no fire extinguisher in this computer lab either. The fire was contained quickly and the unit managed to survive and be put back into service.

Fire – Fire – Fire<br

I had a plain text file that wasn't opening, so I used the DOS "type" command and it wasn't text anymore. So I changed the extention to ".exe" and ran it. It crashed the computer so I tried to reboot, but somehow the hard drive got currupted entirely, so I had to re-format and install.

Worst thing that happened to me was on a 386 computer. On A Mac- Mac OS 8, initialized the Hard Drive, erased system files, couldn't restore system from OS 9 disks (firmware too old) went on ebay to get OS 8, disk cracked in half during shipping, no insurance. On A PC- Putting memory in for a friend, he bought DDR2, his computer only supported DDR, forgot to ground, shocked the motherboard while showing him the difference between the two. computer fried, no longer boots, BIOS beep of death...

Worst thing that happened:<br

One day though, I came across some settings to do with the processor in the Control Panel and thought it would be great idea to change the 16 bit option to 32..."Would you like to restart to apply setting? Yes"The end result was nothing more than a flashing white cursor in the top-left of the screen after the reboot - MY DAD WAS FURIOUS! Probably because the Windows 95 manual with the serial key was at his workplace (where they have hundreds with different codes for their PCs too).Because of this, my Dad had to dig them all out while he worked and ring my Mum constantly, saying each code until they got the right one. Unfortunately, this process took several days and I was forced to sleep while the computer was on the setup screen as punishment (computers were much louder in them days)! Oh and I wasn't allowed to use the computer at all for a MONTH after they sorted it! I was one bored geek!

I think the worst thing I did to a PC was about when I was 7 years old – I had a computer in my room that my parents let me have, that we upgraded from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95.

It’s fair to say I wasn’t as computer literate as I am now but I was aware that Windows was very customizable and enjoyed doing various tweaks. It happened way back when i was a kid.I had my pentium III,i was running a new cd(don't remember which one) in it,and after sometime i heard a *BANG*.....At first i got confused ,later i found that the noise came from the CPU.I opened the cd drive and found atleast thousand pieces of that cd...After that even the cd tray refused to go in...
God knows what happened in there, but i had to change the drive.
Thats the worst thing happened SO FAR.....but i still care bout my PC....It's my life ;-)

I care so much about my computer n stuff.<br
