Harvey – you obviously aren’t familiar with the Windows operating system. Windows users don’t have to “move all the other windows away first.” They have a window management features called the “taskbar” that lets them quickly and easily switch to a particular window. They can then use the mouse gesture or keyboard shortcut to hide all other windows. This can be quite useful when wanting to copy something to or from the desktop, for example.

I don’t really see how this compares to Expose (which is generally Apple’s answer to the window switching capabilities of the taskbar).

Brian –

I use the drag-to-top function all the time. Part of that ability is also the ability to drag a maximized window *down* to restore it. This works extremely well on multi-monitor systems where I can drag a maximized window from one monitor to the next and have it maximized there, all in one natural motion.

Linux does this better, and has been doing it for over 2 years.
So we are at the point now where microsoft is playing catch-up.

This has got to be the stupidest Windows feature I’ve seen so far!!!
How is taking your hands off the keyboard, moving your mouse across the screen to a window bar, and then shaking the window, and then retuning your hands to the keyboard a “cool feature”? Isn’t it a lot easier to just press an F key (Exposé) and continue your work?

Of course it is, but Apple has patented Exposé, so Microsoft comes out with this convoluted method.

The other really stupid thing about this Window shaking method is that it only works if the window you want to show is already on top. If a window is hidden by other windows you have to move all of the other windows away first, and then do your shaking. This is supremely DUMB!

[Is it really necessary to filter "cr*p"? It makes me look like an indiscrete guttermouth (as opposed to the discrete guttermouth that i am). It wouldn't be so bad if there was a preview feature; at least then we'd know what we're in for.]

“You can shake your windows by just grabbing the title bar and shake it.” My, what an astute observation! ;P

I can’t imagine myself preferring dragging a window to the edge of the screen to maximise it over double-clicking the titlebar. In fact, i suspect that such a feature would annoy the crap out of me ever time i did it WITHOUT intending to maximise.

Haven’t done the shake. But been running Windows 7 as my main OS on my desktop for two builds now. I’m needing to get our laptop setup running it as well.
