Really, I'd like to see that you don't have to upgrade your PC to 4GB of ram just to run the damn thing. Haven't they learned anything from Linux? Also, how about some power management, and maybe make it to where the full power of the
processor is used. And please please please...drop the stupid cloud computing idea. What will the users do if the connectivity is dropped or the system gets crushed by evil chinese and russian hackers. Everyone, if you are so concerned about privacy, you would be against the idea of cloud computing also. Your data will no longer be yours but the corporations.

I would like to see more operating systems that focus on Bricks!

Anybody here a Monty Python fan? I have windows Xp with 2 harddrives. The second harddrive also has Xp on it. Both harddrives have data because the second harddrive is a harddrive from another computer. I wanted to upgrade the second harddrive to Vista, but vista didn't support the option to upgrade on a second harddrive without deleting it first. I didn't want to delete anything. Of course theres many ways around this...one involves switching the harddrives around then installing, or making a backup of the harddrive and yeah...we know. Point is I don't care about all those many other ways. I want Windows 7 to be able to be installed any kind of way.

Windows should be allowed to be installed/upgraded on any of your harddrives or partitions with or without deleting any information.
http://chris.pirillo.com/?p=7896#comment-675980

Here are a Few things I can think of that would improve Vista, so considering Windows 7 is a successor version of Vista, I think this should be good.1. Windows Explorer should Save window sizes to memory. (Might already can do it, but everytime I log off or restart my computer, I click on "My computer" and the window is not maximized, and i have to resize it or max it. (really annoying)
2. In the Windows Explorer toolbar (File, Edit, View, Tools, Help), After the menus are highlighted with the Alt Key, Pressing "Enter" does not access anything. You either have to click on it with the mouse or press the key of the first letter of each menu. (Also annoying because i'm used to "Enter" for everything.)
3. Better UAC. Programs that require permission for “an unidentified program wants access to your computer” should be able to be controlled in a list. Once you understand It should have access, it shouldn't prompt it again the next time you run it. (also annoying)
4. More Tweaking Tools. (Tools like TweakVI for Vista and Tweak UI are great but cost) Windows should have all those features built into it. (at least into the admin account)
5. Some programs checkboxes cannot be accessed with the keyboard. This is an issue when you don't have a mouse. The one day my mouse went out I had to navigate the through the computer with the keyboard alone. Talk about hard. I installed an application, which had prompts...and like most programs, they require you to check the read terms boxes before installing. Well without a keyboard you cannot check them unless the words with the checkbox have an underlined character for the keyboard shortcut. (as you can imagine, not all do)...this refers to option buttons as well.
(an annoyance that should be fixed)
6. Built in antivirus program. (would make since for microsoft to have windows live onecare in it.) When I buy a new computer or install windows, I don't want my Security center to be yellow or red with warnings. I want it all to be secure and good to go. Windows defender takes care of the malware part in windows vista, but there's nothing for the antivirus.
7. Windows should keep in memory all programs that are running and all work that is up and running, so when the computer shuts off because of power failure or any other reason, you can start it back up right to where everything was without loosing any information. (like when the computer reloads up, have an option saying "Load from previous shutdown" (Same concept that browsers have)

Here are a Few things I can think of that would improve Vista, so considering Windows 7 is a successor version of Vista, I think this should be good.

1. It needs to be structurally sound, appealing to the eye, "multi-level" with some decent bling and the occasional secret panel to a hidden passage.Meaning it should be simple and robust enough that the average Joe will be able to just USE IT!! With an ample amount of tweakability for the more adept "familiar".rephrased.......I think we need a stable OS, available "aero" type doodads and clear-type font smoothing whatnots. (Pretty - but mostly irrelevant) I think we need an incremental ASR option that is automatic with USB backup drives or secondary hard drives as well as a DVD option so that in the event of catastrophic hard disk failure or the inevitable BSOD re-install, we can at least simply choose to restore to a choice of historical points "Timeline style" just a complete and simple full system recovery.Don't need IE or outlook whatever nor WM . Sell them as an add-on to anyone who wants to enlist.Make peoples lives easier, not more complicated and the OS will sell itself all to death.I am old enough that I remember when computers were fun in and of themselves. However I also remember when you could change the carb on your Olds whatever and get XXXX more horsepower if you were in the know.................

I think it should be much like choosing a new house. This would also mean the OS would be almost impossible to pirate, but as this is unlikely to happen how about a more resouce friendly OS (less memory /CPU hogging, less bloat etc) the ability to clone your hard disc from the OS directly ( just like MAC in OS X) so as to make upgrading easier.
The ability to change your hard disc from one pc to another like we could in WIN 95/98 and the OS redetect the hardware, without going down the road of re-installing every time you wanted to upgrade your machine, and all the hassle of transfering data etc.
I am a recent convert to MAC's as i got fed up of constant upgrades/ fixes/patches/restarts and the like. Until MS come up with something that works and doesn't require constant attention, i'm, afraid i shall be sticking to using MAC's.

AS a user of windows for the day job, i would like to see the OS kernal boot from ROM chips, like the old Acorn RISC OS, and the additional functions could then be loaded from disc. this would mean the OS kernel is immune to virues and boots a whole lot faster.<br

A linux compiz-fusion plugin based GUI. Only 1 version with the ability to download plugin packs like media center, for a small additional fee . That would cut down on all of the bloat-ware(vista is full of it!) And of course more speed! I can't believe vista is slower than X.P that's just stupid, but true! Better intergrated games support. I mean DX10 is about 20% slower than DX9! wot's all that about? Oh and xbox 1 emulation would be sweet!!!

O.k simple, a new file system with no more need to defrag and fast searches and of course more secure.
