Instead of going out or hitting the nearest fast food drive-thru, take leftovers from last night's dinner to work for lunch today. You can easily save $5. By doing this just one time a week, you could save $260 by the end of a year.2. Instead of buying a gift and birthday card for someone today, make a homemade card and a batch of his or her favorite cookies to show how much you care. Even if you only saved $10 per occasion by doing this, that $10 for one special occasion per month would add up to a $120 savings by the end of the year.3. Rather than renting a movie from the video store tonight, take the family to the library for browsing through books or reading the latest magazines. Assuming an inexpensive movie costs around $2.00 to rent, you could save $104 by the end of the year by doing this just once a week.4. Don't buy canned drinks from the vending machine at work. Instead take a six-pack of soda from home that you bought on sale. With at least a 25¢ per can savings, you can save at least 50¢ if you drink two a day. That's a savings of $2.50 a week or $130 a year.5. Hang a load of laundry to dry either on a clothesline or on hangers across your shower curtain rod instead of using your clothes dryer. You can save an estimated 50¢ per load. If you choose to air dry just three loads of laundry per week, you could sock away $78 by the end of one year.

1. We got hooked up w/ a pretty well-known outfit, and they claimed to be non-profit. However, we were losing so much many to them every year ($1200+) in fees, it just wasn't worth it. I did my research after it was too late. Apparently, there are some truly non-profit orgs that don't charge you up the you-know-what for this service. And what is this service? Well, they tell you that they talk to your creditors and get them to lower your rates and payments and such. What they don't tell you is that all this negotiation has already been done, and whatever rate you end up with is the rate contracted previously between the creditor and the non-profit. They don't do anything. You then send your money to them and they simply make your payments for you. That's it.So, do your research. And with credit, just like Joshua says, "The only winning move is not to play."

Caution on those non-profit orgs that “help” you with your debt. Buy blank CD's and download a couple of them.Design your own wallpapers or download them free. An easy way to give your desktop a fresh look.Use coupons and set up a viable budget!

Use open source where appropriate. Yout don't always have to have the best internet or phone service. Try to find one that suits your needs perfectly eg. dont by unlimited broadband if you're only browsing webpages.

Another way would be to shop around for certain things like phone and internet service providers. I try to keep it random so I can't guess at what my account balance really is.
By doing this I've got a couple of thousand bucks about twice a year that I didn't notice that I "saved".
My accountant and banker think i'm crazy but it works pretty well for me.

What I’ve always done is write down more than I’ve actually written a check for and less than i’ve made a deposit for. Sounds strange but we live on much less ( only 25K a year for a family of 3) than when we lived in the US.We are starting on our 3rd year & although we have traveled to 4 continents, most of our time has been in Europe.Long stay is the key, we have crossed 14 seass by boat, but have only taken one long flight.Traveling does not cost much, maintaining stuff does.Of course, we did sell our house in 2006 ( and almost all possessions) and got out of the dollar then, but slow travel is actually a good way to save money. The internet makes mobile living easier than it has ever been & one can not find a better education for a child. It is easier than most people think, so something to consider. I don't think the economy is going to be doing much better for a while. If they keep printing up that money to bail all the crooks er bankers out, we might soon have to use a wheel barrel to buy a loaf of bread in the US.

Well, it is not for everyone, but we save money by traveling the world!
