What is the Future of Air Travel?

Flying is an excellent way to travel. However, there is much room for improvement, wouldn’t you say? What kinds of things would you like to see on airplanes if you could choose? We had a good time in my chat room discussing this, and throwing around ideas. Some of them were a tad over-the-top, but these are the five things we all agreed on.

  • Outer Space We’ll be there. I don’t mean just flying to the Moon. I mean we’ll be able to take our crafts higher and higher, and be able to get to our destinations much quicker.
  • Luggage Tracker I can’t imagine not wanting to have something implanted into your luggage so you can keep track of it at all times. It would be kind of cool to be able to broadcast that, wouldn’t it?
  • Internet Access I had this once. I was on a connection by a Boeing flight. It was a test flight, flying around Mt. Ranier. The Internet was free-flowing, and it was truly awesome. It would be great to have Internet access, and some kind of powering station. Heck, even a USB port would be good. We could have our iPod going!
  • Massages!!! Imagine being on a flight, stressed out and in a rush. You could plunk down some money and get a massage. I would totally do that in a heartbeat. Airlines could heal their financial deficits by offering paid massages!
  • In-Flight Competitions and Gaming You’re not going anywhere. Why not have a LAN party on the plane, and have gaming competitions against other passengers? Have fun on the plane. The best flight I ever took was a trip from Seattle to NewYork. It was a red eye flight. I was in between my wife Ponzi, and a friend. Everyone had their own television screen, pulling in Satellite tv. It was so excellent! Airlines seriously need to offer some type of mindless entertainment.

I know the cost of travel is going up rapidly. The whole industry is in trouble. It needs to concentrate more on consumers. Given a choice between spending a lot of money or not, and possibly postponing a trip due to cost… there’s no contest. It’s a no-brainer. You cannot raise prices without raising expectations as well.

I’ve never really taken a long flight, just took 1 up in my uncle’s plane. “Flew around town”, so to speak XD

Anyway, I plan on taking a trip to Japan some time in my life, and if they had screens we could use: I’d so rock out to some Guitar Hero for the flight! Bring my Xbox 360, maybe play some Call of Duty 4 or Gears of War, SOMETHING I could play with a bunch of friends I plan to take with me.

Massage while playing Guitar Hero? Heck yeah! And with wireless internet access, I can use my Wireless Network Adapter to play Xbox Live! Although I’m not entirely sure I’d be comfortable having people overhear my trash talk over the mic XD

Having a LAN party on a plane is brilliant. Each seat could have a controller and screen, that folds down, built into the seat ahead of it! It would be sweet. Of course you couldn’t have a Wii….not enough space on a plane to move…w00t!

My first flight must have been when I was 3 or 4. We owned a condo in Texas on the gulf of Mexico, and we would go there for a few weeks during the winter. Back then, I was small, and the airline seats we’re actually nice, until you grow up and wonder what kind of neurotic engineer designed the coach seating. The chair as what looks like a head cushion at the top, but all it really does is point your head at the floor.

I’m all for having a internet on the plane. The internet seems to be my source for entertainment at home, so why not have it on the plane? Gaming would be cool, even if you had like a plane-hosted server on a computer game, and you could play with anyone else on the plane.

Hehe _ I only fly Jetblue BECAUSE they offer mindless entertainment the whole way there - and their service is fantastic! (and did I mention their planes are beautiful versus the norm)… and they’re the only ones I know who offer a non-stop flight from Boston to Seattle (again.. the only ones I know).

It’s hard to say what direction airlines are headed… now it looks as if they’re charging for any carry-on items at all. With the rise in inflation and the economy going to pot, I can’t imagine that they’d get the amount of money they need on these other services alone. But I could see them getting a lot more credit and (possibly) passengers - so long as they fly in well demanded areas.

I could speculate on new services… and for sure there are things I’d love to see on airplanes… but the things I’d love on flights seem to be going moreso AWAY then coming to pass.

Haha, I’m trying not to be negative… it’s just rough right now in the economy though.

Kind Regards,
-Shaina

I gotta love your optimism.

I’ve been on a few flights myself, some of them being as long as hell. I think the longest flight I’ve been on is around 12 hours, what a time I had on it.

Things can get pretty boring on long flights, especially when you only pay for a basic flight, which means no food, drink, entertainment etc.

A mistake I’ll never make again is having a 12 hour basic flight.

I agree that there is space for huge improvements, taking aircrafts higher and higher would be a good one, especially for me. The Luggage Tracker thing sounds cool, I’ve never lost my luggage but I ride in fear of loosing my case. Internet Access should have been a basic feature of a flight, although I could only imagine the queue’s. The same thing goes with massages, it’s an awesome idea, but the queue would be horrible (depending on the aircraft company… I suppose). In-Flight gaming is the one I liked the most. I would love to play my/a PlayStation 3 on my long flights, it’s the only thing that would keep me awake, which I never seem to be able to achieve.

Being a “million-miler” with three airlines I probably qualify as a frequent flyer, flying to (and back from) three locations per month for the last 8 years or so. About half of the trips are domestic (USA).

My expectations are a little bit more practical and less out-of-this-world. Here is what I wish the future air travel should offer:
* arm and leg room. I’m 6′2″ and I am convinced that flying economy is a health hazard, especially for long flights, because of constricted blood flow
* friendly flight attendants. There is no other industry in the world that charges you $500-$5,000 per “experience”, and then treats you like a nuisance. Yet, on at least half of my flights that is how I am treated. I am sick and tired of being patronized, condescended and treated like cattle
* power outlets that actually work (in the departure area). For whatever reasons, on most airports, they don’t anymore. Instead, they now all sport these “pay-to-charge” stations, where you pay $4 for 30 minutes of electricity. this is outrageous fleecing
* security checks that actually make sense. No, taking off your shoes doesn’t make sense. It is simply a way to guarantee employment for TSA officials - and to drive up travel costs - without any added security benefit. The same is true with current size limits on liquids. A 4oz flask of toothpaste is a security hazard? Gimme a break.
* baggage handling systems that don’t loose your luggage and get it back to you within 15 minutes of arrival. This is not rocket science.
* guarantees that nothing is stolen out of checked-in luggage (I have my checked-in luggage being burglarized at least once a quarter). It’s TSA who operates these baggage handing systems (using contractors). I find it difficult to trust people for my security who are stealing from me
* a common standard for in-seat electricity on the aircraft. Necessary to work on your laptop through the flight. And no, there is no one charging system that works on all planes. I currently have three different systems, and built up an expertise on which airplane uses which method. Please.

the airlines would not let you bring your system, controller, and probably not even a game, it would be way too easy to pack a bomb in one. But it would be really cool if they had their own stuff there for you to play.

I just heard yesterday that you will be allowed only one bag per flight, each additional bag will cost 15 dollars each.
I think the idea of a lan party on the plane would be awesome, maybe some kind of a dog fight sim?

A new sort of aircraft is the ML866 which is a huge plane. With Movie Theater, swimming pool, keynotes could be hold comfortable on the plane and so on… it flies with 222km/h and it will hopefully be in use in 2010
http://www.aerosml.com/ml866/

A luggage tracker? Now that would be neat. You’d instantly *know* when your luggage was headed to one coast, and you to the other..

The other feature that ought to be in your luggage is a tamper alert, so that when “TSA” opens the bag, you’ll know who “accidentally” messed with the expensive items that you had padded between your t-shirts and slippers.

Of course, with a tracker, it’ll also mean that “big brother” will also know wherever you go, and when.. So, maybe not so much. We’d have to assure that any potential misuse of the data was already taken out of possibility.. “We’re from the government. It’s for your safety.”

Yeah, I recently read about a company that just received funding to put wireless into airplanes. It’s a great concept but I’m sure it’s going to cost an arm and a leg to use.

p.s. Sorry about your parents’ care wreck.

Internet, internet, internet!!! Once we get on board WiFi, there is no telling where we can go. I think we can definatly look for onboard gaming, personal video devices, although it already exists, I think we will see more On Seat Navigation systems. That is what I want to see!!

On what you said about the LAN party… I don’t know, some people out there gets waayyy too carried away with a game. They might start a fight on board or something xD

I’m with the frequent travel comments. As a Million Miler I find the service continues to decline steadily.

I can dream as this view by Chris suggests, but…

Flying is much like taking a bus. As long as folk demand the absolute minimum fare and patronize the airlines that provide that fare, guess what - the service will be equally minimalistic. Why should that surprise anyone?

The future for the average traveler is stuck in coach, in a middle seat, for two-six hours. Waiting for the bathroom or even a path to the bathroom. Waiting at every stage of the process - from security to final baggage delivery. The airlines are more than happy to have us queue.

And please don’t get me started on security. The expensive eyecandy is misleading. The real security comes from a hardened cockpit door as far as hijacking goes. And as far as bombs go we will always be vulnerable to some extent. I’m sure there are those who will seek and find ways to disrupt us.

Nope, dreaming about anything associated with comfort is useless. Quite nice to dream but minimal cost = minimal service.

Travel by air will get more and more bothersome. Eventually there will be an upstart that caters to those that travel often and desire more comfort, providing more leg room, first class seating throughout the cabin and bringing real food back, and of course internet and cell service.

Either that or mag-levs will make aircraft ridiculously inconvenient.

In my opinion, with tech prices going down it would not be unreasonable to see some form of the DvD entertainment systems such as you can now get in some cars and SUV’s. All it would take is some screens that fit over the back of the seat in front of you, which I know are available, because my nephews each have one in my sister’s SUV, and a DvD player mounted in the arm rest. Think of it. You could carry some of your own DvD collection in your carry-on, and beyond that… it would open up a new stream of revenue for the airlines. They could rent out their own DvD’s. It could work much like pay per view. Wouldn’t -you- drop $2 for a movie that would keep your kids quiet and occupied during a long flight?

I’ve heard about traveling into space to get to destinations faster, but it’s HIGHLYYYYY!!!!!! Expensive.

I think that security issues will improve over the years due to new technologies filtering suspicious individuals. I do not think the flights themselves will change that much. They are going to continue doing what they are currently doing. They will fly their customer’s to their respective destinations.

Chris Pirillo My Parents Were in a Car AccidentWhat is the Future of Air Travel? What will Cars of Tomorrow be Like? Are Brick and Mortar Stores Better than eTailers? What was the First / Last Movie you saw in a Theater? Are Personal Home Pages and Blogs Dying? Could you Live Without Email or the Web?

As a frequent air traveler, nothing annoys me more than having no internet onboard the flights. I quite often do 8 hour Atlantic trips, and it would make work much easier if I could access my email, on board the plane. I do believe however, that American Airlines are adopting the internet for planes, however, until then, I will have to put up with Chicago O’hare wireless internet and London Heathrow’s expensive wireless internet.

Outer Space - I thought the higher you are, the slower you travel??

Luggage Tracker - That’s great.. this is awesome.. Great security for the passengers.. At least you know that your luggage is in good hands.

Internet Access - Yeah WiFi thing.. You can surf and chat with friends that way.. You can keep in touch with them even though your going farther..

Massages - Now that’s an idea… This will keep you relax during a jet ride…

Competitions - This is a great idea too.. Imagine, you can kill time this way.. Time flies when you are enjoying..

What is the Future of Air Travel? ~ Chris Pirillo

I think it would be awesome if you could get involved in a lan party while in flight… or maybe you could at least have gaming consoles. Those long flights would go by so much faster if you could get your frag on.

Just a thought guys. You know that little problem they keep reminding us about? The one about crude oil deposits running out in this year or that year. Well depending on whoes doing the talking it may happen very soon or some distance off in the future. Most of us are optomistic that surface travel vehicles will probably become boring electric buggies. Well if that is so, I cant quite imagine an electric Boeing 747……can you? What is the sustainable propulsion alternative for this type of transportation. We may have a lot less freedom of access to fast international travel in the future.
Now theres a conversation topic. I’ll leave you with that thought and a motto I once used to use when I was less of an optomist…_”you can’t get there from here”

if it was air travel, it might be amuch faster supersonic jet. but to go at those speeds that plane should only carry like 50 to 100 people to go really fast and its dangerous cause like what happened to the concorde there was this 1 accident i know of that when it took off the plane lit up and got on fire and it exploded. well i think but it did catch fire though.

and in your seat you will have cable tv, broadband internet using ethernet or maybe you get a wireless keyboard and mouse and your tv screen infront of you will be your computer and tv at the same time. that would be awsome. and on buisness class you get 15″ monitor infront of you with internet and tv and below is a printer and a scanner and a free flash drive to save all of your work you have done on a plane but i guess this will only work on long flights. and maybe you can take a bath on the plane like a hot tub, jacuzzi, masusse, shower, swimming pool, food. and ofcourse a game room. that would be so great if it existed now.

and there was this time when i was going to honolulu from manila. it was a 10 hour flight. and i only had a nintendo ds, game boy advance sp and, ipod and a portable dvd player. god it was impossible i coudnt sleep. i just walked. but i slept and when i woke up we were going to land in honolulu intl airport.

Well, you guys must have the new one cause my old on doesn’t If it did… WHy the hell would they put the port for the charger.

Some day they might have commercial flights that are super sonic with inertial dampeners to make the flight more comfortable and with no turbulence. The flight could go into space so the trip takes less time. They need to have bedded flights to where you can sleep comfortably on long flights.

How about no air friction??.. no air=faster…

what we need is hydrogen powered airplanes, cars and electricity reactors.

I entirely agree with this. The longest flight I’ve ever taken was from NYC to Seoul, South Korea.. Which, I must say, was the longest 13 or so hours of my life. Some other sorts of options for entertainment on an airplane would be wonderful. Like, what if they offered rentable games from those little TVs the stick with every seat? Like they did with the N64 in hotel rooms. Controllers are pretty much wireless now, I don’t see how it would be too big of an hassle.

it aint far into space man.. and you can fly much much faster :P

Im a big Aviation Enthusiast so I lie to think about the future of Planes and Flight Travel Experiences. I agree with you chris about the Massage Chris. For long flights it would be nice to be able to put down a couple bucks and get a massage in your seat. If anyone’s seen the news lately and has purchased airline tickets recently you know how bad the aviation industry is due to those very high gas prices. In the past few years Airline Prices have gone up and flight experiences have gone down. They are charging for everything these days. I hope the industry starts to improve sometime soon but the way gas seems to go up everyday it doesnt look so good in the very near future.

You can use your iPhone (or any mobile device) as your boarding pass. Download your ticket’s bar code to your phone,
Change your seat assignment on the way to the airport, reschedule a flight to make a business meeting, even switch departing airports.
The parking might be equipped with various sensors that sense how much parkings space there are left and LED screens will guide you and show you the shortest route of a free parking space or there will be skyscraper complex where you can drive in and leave your car in the hands of a robot arm and conveyer belts that parks your car for you.
Fingerprint-based IDs, 3-D face digitization and iris scan might be some of the security measure that makes sure that it’s you that is flying and not someone else, your fingerprint information will be stored on the 2d bar on your boarding pass .

Man.. imagine flights with free internet and LAN parties. That would be amazing! over forty CEOS of different companies using their IBM thinkpads to play some counter strike. :)

Thanks for the post Chris and I can’t wait till all of this becomes a reality!

I hope in the future everyone has their own plane/flying car thing, because then we would never have to deal the annoying commercial airlines. And having a LAN party on the plane is probably the best idea i have ever heard, having like a tournament on an airplane, that would be so much fun.

I think we will use space and ram jets to get to our destinations faster. I don’t think we will have any hardcore game like quake or UT on the plane but we will have casual games like netrus. Email, text message, and internet access will be prevalent.

I actually went on an airline once, about 7 years ago I believe. It had a monitor on each seat, and the monitor had a remote control you could use to control the games and also had TV channels, games, and a lot more. Of course in the future, NOW, we will see better technology. Like XBOX 360’s, PS3’s ,and pretty soon Wii’s.

wouldn’t it be cool if commercial inflight looked like this? http://tinyurl.com/63joy3

what a clown !
Can’t stand his accent either…

Honestly I don’t see a positive future for air travel, unfortunately. I find that airline companies are trying to cram more and more people into even smaller spaces on planes these days. I travel often and I just don’t honestly see comfort increasing in economy class. Yes, I see good things happening in first class and business, but for us poor folk stuck in the back in economy, I think we will continue to be cramped and uncomfortable for many years to come :)

i will recommend 1st Safety(Security A must! dont mind without any entertainment, passanger life is an important issue.) , 2rd Noise-some plane are very noisy passanger will get headache on that, 3th Foods& drinks (MUST! and delicious),4th comfort, 5th enterainment (TV, games) 6th, get online (but this will interrupt the plane network right? only hope they develop the own plane network only which will not affect by anything.)

woah… great ideas but cost much… i think we should think first that all consumers could afford on these type of travel… i don’t say that those ideas are bad, i only say that those ideas are just for people who have the money because they can afford that kind of travel…

Nice Video lolz, my names Allison, im feelin n0rty and h0rn3y if any guyz wana chat im usually on

With the exception of changing the type of fuel that is used, adding more flights, and charging less, why does flying need to change? You get onto a plane, the plane goes down the runway, goes into the air, flies around, and then lands. Why do we have to be able to do things when we are in cars and planes? Just sit and relax (as best as you can).

Singapore Airlines have USB ports on their planes. no wonder they’re the most sought after airline. i usually starts with the most basic things to make air travel good: Humidity(boeing 707), more legroom(on coach), in-flight entertainment(done that), food on demand(some airlines), etc.. bottomline is, these may be small things but if they add up, it will have positive outcomes.

Those are some really great ideas. I’d love to have in flight competition. Imagine playing COD4 on an airplane against others, it would really take the dullness out of sitting and eating pretzels.

I think planes from a pilots perspective are pretty automated in the cockpit. A plane can now pretty much land itself with a little help.
From a passengers perspective it can get very boring. I agree being able to access the web or play games with other people on the plane would be amazing. I like to think the future of aviation are some flights with shops or food places to sit and eat on overseas flights. Wireless internet and power outlets for electronics.
Here are two new airliners one from Airbus and one from Boeing check them out and see what the dreams of aviation are.
http://www.airbus.com/en/aircraftfamilies/a380/index2.html
http://www.boeing.com/commercial/787family/

Well for get flying, if the USA would invest in Hi-Speed railroads, I’m talking about a full investment in underground/overhead magnetic levitation to whiz people throughout the country. It would take an initial humunguous investment to put monrail type trains along side or inbetween the current freeway systems, void of crossing paths with vehicles to allow for this type of future system to exist. The government will need to do something soon, as flying and fuel cost will only soar and vehicle emissions and fossil fuel will eventually deplete or destroy the earth.

Darin Stoick, http://www.stationofanimation.com

They have internet, they have usb ports, and plug ports, they have games, the phone is the controller. even massages are available in first class. but the one thing that you have to take in account is that american flights are about 3 hrs LONG. (american flight industries have no need to purchase super expensive airplanes cost cost cost)
korean flights. most particuarily korean air has all of them everyone has their own screen, their own game, usb ports. (economy class tickets are 2000$

I don’t thing fuel cells will be powerful enough for aeroplanes for a long time. But I hope it soon develops and catches on for cars in the next few decades.

I once flew on Swiss Air and they hat monitors like the one you mention on your Jet Blue flight. However, these monitors in addition to tracking you flight, allowed you to change screens to watch movies, play some basic video games, or listen to music. Also, they had different movies, video games, and music to select from. Every seat had a little controller for you to make your selections. Would be something nice for planes to add on those long flights.

omg COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES about *** rights is AMAZING. You have never seen anything like it!

Talk about “NERD”. lol

“I have flown every airline out there!” ..yeah..you mean about the handful of airlines out here in the states? You surely havent flown the leading airlines of Europe and Asia from the way you talk about “future airlines”

on Cathy Pacific (of singapore), it is available on economy.

I thought you meant Air travel”- make one of air transport!

My first flight. I was three and well, I dont remember it.

Yeehaw!

I’m on yahoo messenger and at cutecamchicks com with the same username (jenny888841). Look me up and I’ll hook ya up with some free credits.

Let’s get this party started.

air canada has usb plugs on everyseat; every plane.

interesting
I FARTED

I think the future of air travel will have us completely lost of our rights and just have us bolted down into seats in which we can’t move and just enter and exit the plane. that’s really it. i just feel that air travel will start to get worst and worst.

Wow, those are freaking nice ideas, the only thing I would actually ask for is change the seats, they make you grow a hunchback, you know that wierd form they have, like in some travel buses… I don’t get the point of them beeing made that way…

correction: i meant to say 787 dreamliner on humidity…
and less noise(A380)

Hi, I think that for me the better idea is the high speed internet access. But you know what? my wife says that when you just get married, you want to be ALONE with your spouse, and most of the times you have to wait, and wait , and wait. (to check in, to board, to take off, to land, to get off the plane, and get to your honeymoon suite), you what i mean. Wouldn´t be nice to eliminate most of this waiting. Even they could make a small room, in the back of the plane for the honeymooners, (only for them) and give them a little of privacy. Maybe a little special treat.

Also, when you are at lunch, if they could take care of the kids, maybe just during lunch, that would be fantastic, at least for my wife and me.

At this moment I can´t think in more things that would make the flying experiece better.

I am sorry, because English is not my fist languaje. if I am wrong speeling some words, please let me konw, so I can improve.

Thanks.

IN-FLIGHT-COMPETITIVE-GAMING FTW!!! It would PWN to be able to blow away every person on board with MJRHAX1337skillz 1,000 feet in the air.

The problem is gamers are typically rowdy and it might upset the people who AREN’T playing. Also, the FAA be paranoid, they believe anything that emits any form of radio waves will cause the plain’s communications to ’splode and what-not.

Somebody needs to explain why that law was made back when phones used short-wave radio to communicate yet it is still around while phones are using micro-wave radio to communicate….*sigh

HEY! AA has reclining seats with plenty of room and it looks super comfy and personal, I’d like to try THAT out.

Once we get on board WiFi, there is no telling where we can go. I think we can definitely look for onboard gaming, personal video devices, although it already exists, I think we will see more On Seat Navigation systems.

**** YOU CHRISPERFUCKINGILLO!!!!!!

I think these suggestions are pretty cool. I would like to have some more entertainment when flying. Luggage tracker would be nice too. This would have to end the days of having to lose your luggage. Airplanes can reach new lengths when flying high into space. Too bad we aren’t able to do it in the present. Maybe it will become available in the future. Maybe…

i hope the future of air travel involves staying on the ground.
i don’t know if i can handle someone touching me for a massage while i’m panicking on the plane.

yes, i don’t like planes.

if they could build a bridge from here to all other countries then i’d be willing to go somewhere.

Better entertainment on all of our airlines would be great, but this wouldn’t solve most of the transit congestion problems we deal with. I think we get more frustrated about being stuck at an airport for several hours than we do about the lack of food or entertainment that is available. If we could solve the congestion problems, there is a chance that we wouldn’t even need the entertainment in our current transportation systems.

Trains, or high-speed rail systems, would help to lessen over-all transportation congestion. Such methods have already been explored in Europe and parts of Asia, but very few modern trains can be found in the United States.

Though not nearly as fast as air travel, high-speed trains would potentially be cheaper due to lower operation costs per passenger and would certainly be one of the best directions for transportation to go in this country; especially if rising fuel costs render air travel economically impossible.

Exploring alternative ways of getting around would be the best way to make traveling more bearable for everyone.

Your own room with a double bed and a big TV, of course they would have to increase the size of the plane by ten fold for this to work. But one thing i would love to see is the increase in beds in economy flights, obviously only for long trips; but i guess this will never happen either.

I love what Virgin Galactic is doing at the moment, the whole idea really interests me, and i can’t wait for the first flights (just to see if they’re successful) Perhaps one day they mights actually venture into space instead of just leaving the earth’s atmosphere for a few seconds. Who knows?

lollllllllllllllll

i farted as well. it smelled beautiful.

Once I flew across the US, and happened to have my 6 year old dell laptop. Yes. I know. It’s horrible. Well. Lol. It would’ve been amazing if I could’a had an internet connection, on-board. I was stuck to some campaign games, and solitaire. I mean, no blogging, no internet. I mean, (no pun intended) “No internet, no air, what’s the difference.” Heh. Get it, because there’s no air……that high….well at least I thought it was funny. Though all these things would be great. In fact. AMAZING!

The future of air travel is most definitely ramjets with wireless internet available on them. This will increase fuel efficiency and prevent boredom and restriction from the internet while on the plane. They should also bring back the more efficient concorde design, and with this engine design with no moving parts, there will be know disasters.
Another possibility in the future is having no windows to allow for faster speeds, but instead have LCD screens on which they will post pictures of what the area they are flying over looks like on a routine flight so the passengers will remain comfortable. Those are some of the ideas that I believe will contribute to air travel in the near future, that are reasonable, and not outlandish, or trivial.

How about getting a haircut. You are trap there for a couple of hours, why not get a trim and a shave. I know the ladies wouldn’t mind a manicure.

i took my first flight to turkey when i was young

I read something about Internet access in airplanes in an issue of Popular Science. As time goes by, I’m sure that in-flight Internet will become a necessity, if it’s not already that way! Give it a couple years, and mile-high Internet should be everywhere.

The future of air travel has to reside in improved technology that reduce the cost of operation. It seems that fuel is going to remain expensive for the foreseeable future and possible fuel in its current form will only increase in the price as global demand out paces supply. I’ve not heard of any means of air travel that work on a entirely new paradigm.

Airlines may be able to entice more people to their planes but if the underlying cost out strip what people are willing to pay the future of air travel might be grim.

It would be pretty cool to have mobile houses in planes. If you were able to enjoy a plane ride with all of your favorite gadgets and gizmos, you would enjoy it a lot more.

I would love to have in a good price range, your own cabin with shower, personal toilet, internet and tv. Then the flight would be great i think and it’s not like it’s impossible as Airbus has that A380 out right? it’s just massive and i think it’s possible to with such a thing in there also.

I never could understand the need for in-flight wifi… that is until my recent trips to and from California. I could’ve been so much productive with some sort of Internet connection.

virgin atlantic has a massage station for business class passengers

Anything on this planet needs improvements including aer travel.I personally would like to fly faster. Not in a matter of hours but in a matter of minutes.Traveling from place to place with machs/hour not miles/hour

lots of high prices. and charging for stuff. I try not to fly but really who can’t avoid it? peanuts need to cost less imo

Some of these things are being incorporated slowly into plan services. A writer for Edge played Doom on the back seat when he went flew to New York. I think that they should also beef up the number of hot ladies on the plane lol. Oh yeah, spread the seats out a bit, no one wants to sit next to the guy that coughs on you and takes up most of the space.

This is an often overlooked form of transportation, but in the near future it won’t be nearly as expensive, and Helicopters will become a great form of daily transportation.

Personally connectivity to the outside world is definitely what the the future of air travel holds. Having high speed internet access on plans would effectively save thousands of hours of work lost due to flying.
I’m not sure about the concept of flying outside the atmosphere though. Would it really be just as energy efficient to fly into outer-space then back down again? I guess the heat energy could be recycled on the way back down again!

A red eye flight is the last flight of the day, most of the day you land after midnight.

i just came back from a trip to asia from canada. the 13hour flight was horrible. i wished that planes that traveled long distances could have slightly wider seats. sitting beside 2 sweaty people isn’t really all that great…
