3D printing! I disagree. I have a color laser printer, of which I can create the same affect. All the so-called 3D photos I saw, the lighting and colors were manipulated to enhance the 3D qualities of the photograph.

I get a better affect with manipulating the sharpness of the closest objects to the camera and slightly graduating the sharpness of objects moving toward the background. And back-lighting the objects in the foreground.

Printing software could do all of the above and manipulated inside the printer. I think so-called 3D printing first and foremost is a marketing invention.

I am a photographer, artist, with an MFA+60 and a whole lot of experience editing/manipulating digital photography.

Imagine what it would do to the shipping/postal/courrier services if you can actually print out functioning copies of your remote control!! :) That would be the beginning of the star trek age eh?!

Hi Chris,

I run Fabjectory - http://www.fabjectory.com - we use 3D printers (actually one a model up from the one in the video) to create figures from SecondLife and the Nintendo Wii.

This technology as a whole is still in its infancy, but something remarkable about them is that most of the 3d printers are made with 2d printer parts and technologies. To me, this indicates that in 10 years time they'll be as cheap (if not as commonplace) as the 2d printers of today.

Something to think about in moving ahead.
