E-Mail:

What Email Client do You Use?

There is such an abundance of email clients these days… both web-based, and desktop-based. It’s hard to know what one is the ‘best’, or which one will suit your needs and desires. How do you know what is right for you? I asked several people this question, and the answers were quite varied.

gmail - Sean Oliver

Outlook, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo mail - Brian Sullivan

Gmail at home and Outlook at work. I used to use Outlook Express at home but gave us and solely use Gmail now (best spam filtering features around). - Kol Tregaskes

gmail - Kevin Bondelli

The Bat!. It’s the only IMAP client that doesn’t lack features and doesn’t piss me off. - Akiva Moskovitz

Thunderbird at home and Squirrelmail when I’m on-the-go. I’m forced to use GroupWise at work, which I despise. - Rochelle

Mozilla Thunderbird, both at home AND at work. - Helen Sventitsky

The Bat? - ♣genieyclo♣

gmail (IMAP when on the iPhone) - Jamie

Oh, and for the record, I wake up every morning praying that someone would make a desktop IMAP client that does not make me want to kill myself. I’d do it myself but that is a crapload of work that I don’t really want to get into. - Akiva Moskovitz

Googlemail ( IMAP on the iPhone). Very rarely use outlook 2008. - Roberto Bonini

Gmail, Mobile too, and hoping to never use Outlook again - Majento

Gmail +WAP version on mobile and mail.app for the offline (ah and an old hotmail account) - Naor

Gmail: On the web, on Outlook, and wirelessly on my iPod Touch. - Mike L

Anything EXCEPT Microsoft Entourage. Seriously. I’ll telnet into the server on port 143 and manually enter commands if I have to to avoid using Entourage. - Glen Campbell

T-bird mostly, except for my work email. For that it’s Outlook. - steplow = Steve Lowe

Mail for office mail, Gmail+Google Apps for my personal stuff. - Niclas Strandh

i love it when people answer the geek question threads here in friendfeed. it’s like parallel universes. in the confession room people respond to the secret tweets, too, even though the original poster can’t see the answers. if i think about it too much my head hurts. - LauraBrarian

Gmail. Usually through Prism. Sometimes through Firefox or Thunderbird. - Tanath

Gmail, Outlook/Exchange and a Blackberry - Alex Scoble CISSP

Gmail and Verizon (since it’s my DSL account) - Thankful Molly

.mac with Mail.app

Becky both home and office, it has 10 mail box both POP3 and IMAP and 30GB ++ email

sadly outlook. i have been using it forever and now it has emails, calendars and contacts going back 8 years … i have the the near 1 GB .pst file to go with it!

Thunderbird all the time

GMail through Apple Mail. Works well.

I use the gmail web interface for most of my email, using google apps as well for my own domain names. Its free, its safe when using SSL and just plain works.

For pop3 mail I tried ‘em all and invariably kept coming back to Outlook. It just had the most features and did what it was supposed to do.

But now I’m a gmail gal and even all my pop3 accounts are redirected to my gmail account. I love how fast and intuitive it is - and their search function is miles and miles ahead of Outlook’s, that’s for sure.

Outlook at work, Gmail at home, and soon an iPhone for both (does that count?). My personal e-mail has been on Gmail ‘in the cloud’ for about four years now, and I’ve never had a problem. There have been various outages, but none that really affected me.

I use gmail day-to-day.

I fire up Thunderbird when feel picky about embedding pictures & links or want to use long email lists.

Gmail mostly. Sometimes through Thunderbird since I’m a tester.

I use MobileMe mail. When I’m on the Mac I use the Mail app and on the iPhone I use that. I only use the web interface when I’m ‘on the go.’ I really think MobileMe strikes that balance between a great desktop and mobile experience with a great web experience too It had its teething problems but I now think that Apple has got it on the right track now. (and no I’m not an Apple fanboy lol)

Mail.app if I’m on the Mac. If I’m in Linux, then I use Thunderbird. And if I’m in Windows…..well then, I just cry myself to sleep at night.

The Mac Lawyer uses gMail and loves it.

MobileMe’s web interface and Gmail’s interace. Along with my iPhone. Really just my iPhone actually. Unless it is dead…

I use outlook to manage everything, from my school email, to gmail, to comcast, and my website email. I also have a yahoo email for flickr, but I never give that one out…My iPhone is what i ususally use to check the email however…

Hello,

I use Eudora Pro, which was discontinued by Qualcomm in 2007. The development team behind the original program is working on a port of the Eudora’s features for integration into Mozilla Thunderbird, which I may switch to at some point.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

I use outlook with work, but I use gmail via thunderbird at home. I also use hotmail and yahoo mail I have been using those 2 for over 10+ years. I am slowly moving to gmail via thunderbird, but I really don’t like gmail’s web access.

Thunderbird with Gmail using its IMAP capabilities. Love it!

I use Mail on Mac OS X Leopard, I love it and I feel it’s definitely one of the best email clients out there. Especially since it is constantly running on my computer on my secondary display. Gotta love it! So easy to set up and use, it really is my favorite email client, especially over Outlook.

I use Outlook on the desktop. I use Hotmail for my web based email.

Yahoo through Microsoft Outlook at home.

I use Yahoo and Gmail. Both have different features which are appealing to me.

I’m old school. I still use Eudora because I’ve been using it since it was free….the first time.

Yahoo! mail in the cloud, and on the desktop Zimbra, it is an email client built by Mozilla and it’s dead simple to use, a U.I. that is very reminiscent of MS outlook, and open source! What more could a geek want.

Gmail with plain ol’ Mail on OS X Leopard. :)

I use Gmail! I just hope it leaves the beta phase lol.

I use Gmail through Thunderbird. I’ve tried Outlook, and Window mail but have had IMAP problems with them. Thunderbird i’ve had no problem connecting to my email, and sending messages is as easy as walking through the park.

My clients include Eudora and Pegasus, each for different purposes. Webmail via Yahoo & Gmail. But I don’t consider webmail a ‘client’. I use webmail for screening, not for storage.

Mutt!
MUA that is suck-less

Hotmail. Its been my base one for ages, And i dont plan to change due to a huge hassle with everything. though i would love to change the name.

I use MobileMe with Mail.app when on my Mac’s at home, MobileMe webapp when using Windows computers (not very often) and IMAP MobileMe on my iPhone. MobileMe may have had a rocky start but it pushes all my email to my phone and keeps all my contacts and everything all in sync.

Tried GMail with IMAP but it just doesn’t seem complete yet. GMail handles IMAP differently and is just a pain. I never even knew the benefits of IMAP, then I got .Mac and I can never go back to something like POP3 now. When I read a message I need it marked as read everywhere, same with a deleted message.

I’ve been using Yahoo! Mail for years & am quite satisfied with it. It gives me everything I could ask for in a mail client. I’ve also tried Gmail, AOL Mail, Hotmail, & Window Live Mail & to me they all fall short in one aspect or another.

I used to use hotmail, but when I got my iphone I switched to gmail so I could use my mail app.

I love using Road Runner. It’s fast and has plenty of space for me. They even send you an email that tells you if your box is getting too full.

Mail on my Mac and iPod. These do my gmail and local emails.

Mozilla Thunderbird for my Comcast addresses and RoadRunner addresses, plus Yahoo and Gmail. Hotmail and Myway I leave only as web mail, except I check my yahoo by mobile. My mobile provider has an email address. I sometimes access gmail with the mobile.

Gmail with IMAP for my iPod touch, and the Mac OSX Mail client.

I use Aol mail and Yahoo.

Thunderbird with Gmail is the way to go.

Gmail and Yahoo Mail (don’t want to pay more for POP access)
