What Do You Eat for the Munchies?
Ponzi heard about this thing called ‘Bistro MD’ and we decided to give it a shot this week. After the first day with the program, we’re ready to try anything else. Since the cardboard-flavored oatmeal this morning, I’ve been snacking all day. Yes, I’ve had a severe case of the munchies.
Mark Sissons submits his list of favourite “decadent” munchies – not necessarily healthy! Also, in no particular order of preference…
- BBQ’d fresh ground lean beef burger on a sesame seed topped kaiser (one that is toasted right on the grill). As it happens, he stick with ketchup as the condiment, but spices the patty before it goes on the grill (pepper, garlic powder, minced onion, season salt, Heinz regular BBQ sauce).
- Salt & Vinegar potato chips – must be fairly fresh of course… the more vinegar taste, the better.
- Regular Coca-Cola… NOT PEPSI! Super-cold, just a bit above freezing… no ice, of course.
- Really good Chinese lemon chicken – preferably with a light corn starch batter. Best if it is REAL lemon sauce made with fresh lemons. Also, some places use frozen battered chicken filets… not that great, usually.
- A homemade pure maple syrup & vanilla flavored milkshake, extra thick. Grade 3 DARK Maple Syrup is best (look in the “organic” section).
I had some protein pellets a few minutes ago. This is not a snack for eating – this is a snack for laying down and avoiding.

Ahhh … nothing beats the munchies like a good old-fashionish sorta-kinda PB&H with real orgainc peanut butter and honey (homemade marmalade or jelly/jam also works, but that would make it a PB&J, of course) on a cinnamon-raisin bagel washed down … no, accompanied … by a fresh triple, full caf, whole milk latte with a smidgen of extra foam …
Um, um, um …
Actually, a Formanized grilled cheese on multi-grain bread sandwich with a ice cold Pepsi … real Pepsi … also works well …

Have Munchies, Will Travel…
And nothing can beat Wild Joe’s Beef Jerky — although Utz pretzel rods are great, too.

Wow…that program kind of reminds me of the Nutrisystem one.
You know, with Dan Marino and a bunch of other guys talking about how they aren’t fat anymore…and they are football players.
Yup.
Tasted like mulch with a bit of a secret sauce.

Ya The Munchies Can be deadly sometimes. All of the sudden i just wan’t to eat, and i know i shouldn’t but i do anyway. It is strange but i will usually eat a sandwich, chips, chocolate bars, or cookies. It always seems to be the same food to. I suppose its just a habbit of craving. I usually get the munchies when i am nerveous about something like a test or a sports game i play. It has been happening quiete frequently lately due to our school examinations. Being in British Columbia(Right above Chris) we have deadly hard exams, that usually take 3 hours.

I’m with you on the Coke vs Pepsi thing. Except when it comes to Cherry coke/pepsi. I like Cherry Pepsi better. And to eat, POPCORN!! Any flavor!

Well I usually try to drink water when I get the munchies, but so far that does not stop me from eating.
I try to eat something sweet, usually cookies with some cream we have here. It is not really cream, but….Well I tell you about it later if you want to know.
I forgot the name of it.

Great subject
There are so many good foods out there to eat during relaxing especially while watching TV or playing video games, tho usually not healthy. Problem is you usually sit in front of the computer or the tv, talking with friends online and all sudden you just got to chow down on something tasty, great usually not so good for your health.
Here are foods I cannot resist during my gaming sections on weekends.
#1 Ramen Noodles (Pork or Beef) – Oh man so many things you could do with this stuff eat it as soup with extra things added to it, eat it just as a soup the way it’s normally supposed to be made, drain the water and eat the noodles with seasoning and melted cheese etc so many countless ideas. Adding Tabasco sauce to it is my favorite.
#2 Popcorn – Quick easy unhealthy but fun to eat
#3 Cheetos – I now stay away from these chips they are very addicting the powdered cheese on Cheetos tastes so good you can almost never give up on these things it is very hard (I was finally able to do it after a while)
#4 Cheese toasted Sandwitches or buns – Just put it in a conventional oven melt the cheese and make a crunchy toast another great quick snack (especially Montrey Jack Jalapeno cheese)
About the toothpaste theory
It might work for an hour or two since nothing tastes as good after brushing your teeth almost everything seems tasteless but after an hour or so you might just go back to your eating habit.

Chris, have you tried Chex 100 Calorie Chocolate Caramel Snack Packs?
I love them for something to ‘munch’ on! Chex also makes Cheddar & Strawberry Yogurt flavors as well. I found the Cheddar too ’salty’ for my tastes & the Strawberry Yogurt was not available yet in our local supermarket last time I went shopping. You can see weight watchers review @ http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=48531. Since most women usually like chocolate, I bet Ponzi would love them?

How ever now that i lost 49 lbs. and want to stay there or even loose alittle more i eat Fruits,as in apples, oranges, grapes or ect. Carrots are also one of my favorites. Chris this was a fun subject.

I think that a diet like this, even if only munchies, will kill you by 40. You just might as well open you chest and stick all of this stuff directly in your heart and veins. Even if you exercise regularly, which somehow I don’t think you do, you can’t beat an early death eating that crap.
Good luck, but Hasta la Vista at the same time.

Here’s some quick add-ons that I like, personally:
-In reponse to the Chinese Lemon Chicken, I love to take-out an egg-foo young dish for dinner, eat an omelette or two, and save the rest for the next morning when I wake up… straight from the fridge, served cold w/ brown sauce. A new kind of egg dish for breakfast!
-On the healthy side, I can’t help but suggest people trying out a hummus dip w/ pretzels or your favorite, regular-flavored chips. You can even add more to it if the regular flavor of hummus ain’t your thing; I like mine with a juicy taste, so I add diced tomatoes.
-And finally, yes. Coke > Pepsi, any day; although, now I’m drinking Diet soda if any, and Fanta’s Diet Orange is really great, tastes the most like the regular soda than any othe diet drink I’ve had.
…cheers!

usually when I get the munchies (and its in between meals), I try to just drink water- there’s studies that say most of peoples’ “hunger pains” are really the bodies’ way of saying it’s dehydrated. Or is that won’t work I chew sugarfree gum. But if those won’t work, I pull out the big guns- a candy bar. It usually does the trick, but afterwords you feel kinda bad about it……but not for long. :)

Those are good eats to satisfy the munchies. I personally would like to try the salt & vinegar potato chips since more vinegar taste sounds good. Whenever I have the munchies, I enjoy a cup of tapioca pudding, bowl of trail mix, and a tall glass of Sprite.
