What Cola do Most Geeks Drink?
Add to iTunes | Add to YouTube | Add to Google | RSS Feed
What type of cola do you drink? I gave up flavored soda years ago. It’s full of sugar and syrup and such. I don’t drink diet soda because I don’t ingest any type of artificial sweetener. I heard an advertisement recently for a natural type of cola, so I had to try it. Zevia is a natural cola, with no artificial sweeteners.
ZEVIA® Natural Cola stevia supplement is the crowd-pleaser among the ZEVIA® varieties. Its classic cola flavor is rarely found in “natural” soda brands because a traditional cola taste is difficult to perfect without artificial ingredients. It’s even more appetizing when you know that the ingredients in ZEVIA® Natural Cola stevia supplement are absolutely pure and natural. The Zevia team spent extensive time (and drank a lot of colas and “test” product) to make sure this ZEVIA® product would satisfy a cola drinker.
Stevia is an natural herb native to South and Central America. For centuries, native Americans of Paraguay and Brazil called it “sweet leaf” and used it to sweeten native foods. Stevia is used as a food additive in China, Japan, all of South America and elsewhere outside the United States. The extract from the stevia leaf has no calories, no effect on blood sugar levels, and is hundreds of times sweeter than sugar. Stevia is a primary ingredient in all three ZEVIA® carbonated stevia supplements.
So I ordered a case of it. There’s a little bit of caffeine, and no fat or calories. It arrived yesterday, and I tried it out. It’s not bad! If you gave this to someone who had asked for a diet cola, they’d never know the difference.
Even though Wicket had to try to have the last word, and demand his Diet Dr. Pepper, I will stay with the Zevia. All of you should consider switching away from artificial sweeteners, and consider using something more natural. Artificial things are just not good for your body, or your health. If I feel like I need to drink something sweet, I now have something that works for my lifestyle, and tastes good.

My favorite drink of all time is going to have to be Guinness, now I’m not saying I’m an alcoholic or anything. I just love the taste of it regardless of it being alcohol or not. I took horrible care of my teeth when I was growing up and all of the soda I was drinking was literally rotting my teeth, I had huge gaping holes in some teeth till I finally decided to turn my act around. My dentist told me to stop drinking soda all together and since then I just started to drink herbal tea 90% of the time. It still stains, but it doesn’t have that acid in it that will actually hurt my enamel anymore then it already has.

Good ol’ Coca-Cola is always good. Here in the UK we don’t get all of the different brands e.t.c Or even Mountain Dew! But, this definitely looks like a good healthy alternative to any soda. I am also lightly addicted to Dandelion & Burdock. On top of all this, Coke is the most common “fizzy drink” in the world so sometimes, if you’re looking for a bit more than water, Coke has to do.

Totally agree about artificial sweeteners. I put a post up on my blog about the dangers of artificial sweeteners. Most folks assume that since they (big corporations) say that it’s “no calorie”, “low calorie”, etc., that artificial sweeteners are great for weight loss and your health.

I used to drink lots of Coke Light for years….sometimes ~instead of water.
I had a very bad time last year for like a month and i realized that i’m doing a cokesmokecokesmoke “diet”….so i gave up Coke and Coke light too….
By the way here in Europe the Coke light tastes a bit different than in the US (i tried all these when i was at FL)
…..but if you want to do a favor for yourself drink these sweeted or sugared stuffz very very occasionally.

I have serious issues. I barely ever drink caffein. like, ever. so, needless to say I have a very low tolerance for it. I put mountain dew in my cup at this restaurant thinking it was sprite… I barely slept. i felt like the guy in the movies who is on a cross-country road trip and has had 500 cups of coffee in the last 24 hours.

Wow! I don’t see why stevia is not used in products from the US. This would be perfect for me! I run Cross Country, so I’m not able to drink a ton of soda, and this is hard for me because I am a big soda addict. Although Zetia still has some caffeine at least I won’t have the guilt of putting the other “toxins” in my body. And besides, I can bring this to my Cross Country banquets and spaghetti feeds and know that my team can drink something that tastes good.

I discovered Stevia as sweetener last year actually. You can get it as a liquid or powder, even as tablets (coffee/tea) if you search hard enough for it. It’s not that easy to get overhere in Europe as it may not be considered food.
The taste does take a little getting used too tho, there’s a hint of the natural bitter in it.
As for your question: if I do drink cola it’ll be Coca Cola, no light- version…those artificial sweeteners are bad news!

I find myself liking soda less and less, these days. Now when given the choice between a carbonated beverage and water, i often find myself choosing water. Heck, I’m drinking a “Dasani” water bottle as I type. But if I had to choose my favorite Cola, I would probably go with Pepsi. Many people say they taste no difference between Coca Cola and Pepsi, but i do. Pepsi is sweeter and lighter than Coca Cola.

Stevia has never been approved as a sweetner in the United States because it has not been proven safe. That doesn’t mean it isn’t safe, althought there is at least one study that casts doubt, it means that no manufacturer has put up the money for the studies. It is a controversial sweetner with partisans on both sides. You should do a google search, read about it and make up your own mind before using it. From a moral standpoint I would NOT give it to people who cannot give their informed consent such as children. Many people, including myself, find that it has an objectionable aftertaste that precludes using it anyway.

You can look for stores near you that carry Zevia or get a form to request a store carry it, one this page at thier website http://www.zevia.com/get_zevia.html
You can also find the primary ’sweetner’ Stevia in some stores as a dietary supplment. The FDA has made it Illegal to call it a sweetner, but ok as dietary supplment, though some companies such as Coca Cola are trying to get it approved as a food additive according to the wikipedia article on it.
