What Are You Paying for Gas?

How high do gas prices have to get before you change your own driving habits, if you haven’t already? I thought, for certain, that there would be less vehicles on the road after gas hit $4 a gallon here in the United States (at least, in the Seattle area). Seems to me that even when we see $6 a gallon, people aren’t going to travel less than they already do today. No matter where you are on the planet, gas isn’t very cheap. There’s little you can do to avoid wallet pain at the pump, though.

Can you top this?!?

It’s times like these that I’m glad I work from home (for myself, no less). I don’t have to fight traffic with regularity, and I don’t have to fill up my gas tank as frequently as others do. But have these higher fuel rates already curbed your own travel routines? I’m guessing “not.”

We can’t just sit at home, and public transportation is not always practical… so what are we supposed to do?

That’s what I’m paying now. What about you?

I am paying $4.85 a gallon in Illinios. Oh yes I am paying way to much. This is getting ridiculous the government has to come up with something different or were all going to go downhill, especially with the economy going to hell and back.

I paid $3.81/gal yesterday for regular unleaded.
$33.07 for half a tank.
Sucks, don’t it?

$3.90/gal in Madison, WI with $4.19 the reported price in Milwaukee.

I too, can be glad that I work from home and don’t have to routinely consume more expensive than Champagne priced gas just to go out and make money. At what point does it become more of a waste to commute?

But I do need to become more lucrative from home. That would help a lot!

We are paying around $4 here in Michigan. Yeah, it stinks. It only seems like there isn’t anything we can do about it, but we’ve already pointed out what the government is doing wrong, they just aren’t listening.

For now at least, it won’t hurt my wallet, I don’t get my license for a little under 2 years. Hopefully I’ll have figured out Molecular Transport by then. ;)

I’m paying $6.64 a gallon. It’s getting more than ridiculous now, the government seriously has to do something about it. Either we all switch to electrical cars, or we’ll have nothing to get around with. It’s all going to go someday, and as I mentioned in another blog post, that’s the time that people will start to actually think about what they’re going to do about the gas, but then it’s too late.

I am in the bay area and i am paying 3.98 for gas, and it costs me 63 dollars to fill up. I think that the only way to solve the energy crisis is to build nuclear power plants and make more electric cars. The problem with ethanol is that its causing the world food crisis, too expensive, and less efficient with gas. Many of the same problems with hydrogen which costs too much money to harvest, less efficient than gas, and way more expensive. Nuclear energy and electric cars is the only feasible option in my eyes. Gas is never going to go dramatically down in price from here unless we find a huge source of oil. Anwar is not that place which is the nursery of the world and it is too important to our environment and the world ecosystem to destroy with our oil drilling equipment.

My cousin is paying about PHP 2500 a week. That’s $57.67 a week. Gas here in our place is pretty high. Even if it’s that high, my cousin depends on it mainly because of his work. He travels from town to town delivering stocks and making deals everyday.

Wow $4.85 a gallon!! I’m paying $3.99 in northwest Indiana. I fill up about $25 at a time (in my 2003 Toyota Camry).

According to CNN, one of the better ways to find the cheapest prices around your area is to browse the web. Here are some websites that they recommended.

http://www.gasbuddy.com
http://www.gasbuddytogo.com (Mobile Device)

the second website really helps when you are on “the go” :).

I’m paying about 3.78 for regular, about 4.02 for Premium. Pretty awesome where I live heh!

Lucky for me I don’t have a vehicle. Yet…. I want a Ninja 650R motorcycle to get around town on. My girlfriend has the car ^_^

$3.85 here in New Orleans. It was $3.75 on friday.

See http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx for the US. It fluctuates quite widely; just yesterday IL was a bright red and tonight it’s a light orange.

Never, though, does it say the trip I’m about to take from St. Louis, MO to Seattle, WA is going to be cheap…

Okay… It’s about $1.25 CAN / LITRE here in Calgary last time I looked.

Let’s see… that works out to $4.78 US per gallon (US).

Sounds like it’s not a whole lot more up here even though gas is taxed more heavily.

Hi Chris, just paid $3.89/gal for 87 octane in central New Jersey today. I drive a Prius and a minivan so even with a hybrid, I’m not saving all that much. The minivan is costing over $65 for a tankful now. I’m getting very cranky about it.

I think the goverment have gone way too far and i do think its too much!!!probably like in a year everybody eathier be driving on the solar power car or something like that or people would be riding on the bikies to work lol

The U.S.A. has plenty of oil, but they won’t drill for it, simply because of the environmentalists.

This is only the beginning of the energy crunch. Peak oil has happened and demand continues to rise. The government can do nothing about it, change yourself. :)

Hi there,
I think our gas price is hard to beat. Not that it is much to be proud of.
We are currently paying 2 dollar 31 cents per liter here in Sweden.
With a conversion to gallon that is then 8 dollar 75 cents per gallon.
So one could say that we are paying a bit to much for gas here in Sweden.

It was $4.11 when I filled up a couple days ago, It’s even higher now. I live in the SF Bay Area.

At the moment I am paying $3.79 a gallon. I have decided to not drive as much as I used to. I now walk to places that are close to my home when I can and have started to get that dusty bike out of the garage and use it a few times now. I will try and even increase the amount I use the bike because we all know gas prices are just going to increase! Unfortunate, but these are the prices we must pay for taking our planet for granted for so long.

Here in southern Oregon cheapest fuel is $3.99 9/10 gallon actually making it $4.38 for a full gallon of gas. I remember when gas broke a dollar people were so mad bet they didn’t think this day would come. We just pay it we have to get to work and the Store and our minivan gets19mpg hwy and 13mpg city.

I live in Australia, so if you convert it to what we have here, you are paying $1.09 a litre. In oz, we are paying $1.59 a litre. You have such a good deal!

I worked out that In Australia, we’re paying 6.093 US dollars per gallon. That’s 1.68 Australian dollars a liter. We have a tax on fuel and then we also have to pay GST on that.

Come to Canada, BC Gas is about 1.35/liter.
Google says thats about $5 / gallon.
Ouch. Gouged at the pump!

We are much the same as Australian Gas looks like…

About 3.80 per gallon. Yes I do sit at home alot. ;p Dont have a choice. It’s either that or go broke. I only leave the house for work or errands (consoladate errands) and for friends once or twice a week usually. I dont hit up the town every night. ;p And my friends live relatively close by. I dont go to San Diego anymore to see my other friend. Or rarely. I try and do the subway here in L.A when I can, like from the Valley into Hollywood.

I have a small car, not too bad on gas even though it’s old.

Thus is life in a car-dependent city. I wish I lived in New York.

IN texas the gas is $3.89 (87) $4.09 (89) $4.19 (94) $ 4.69 DIESEL MY CAR take 15 GAL TO FILL UP IT IS AROUD 64$ that suck but wath can we do a bout it righ now

I will give you an example for prices here in Germany:

1 gallon = 3.785 liters

Latest gas price: 1,49 € / l
1,49 € * 3,785 = 5,64 €

5,64 € = 8,89 $

So it’s 8,89 $ / Gallon here ;-)

holy cow, some of those prices are crazy folks. i live in east GA and we are paying close to 3.80 so it isnt as bad as most of you i saw that have posted but still its crazy. i dont understand what the government thinks we are suppose to do i keep seeing prices for things going up but my pay check keeps staying the same whats up with that?

Here in the uk the price for one litere of petrol is around £1.20 and soon its going to to about £1.50 now that is a crazy pice to pay to drive a car!!

Wow, I live in europe so we use the euro. I just calculated how much dollars a gallon over here would cost … unbelievable:

1 liter: 1.56 euro
1 gallon: 5.90 euro
1 gallon: 9.30 us$

There’s a gadget I think on msn.com which can be installed to pocket PCs and it shows you where you can find the cheapest gas prices, and I’m sure there are also some apps for the Iphone too, it’s time to install theme.

We are just going over the $4.00 a gallon mark. Last fill up a few days ago was $3.93 and it took almost $60.00 to fill my Honda Civic Hybrid. (Yes Hybrid, a car I bought when gas was still under $2.00 a gallon.) My driving habbits have not changed much, however I am thinking about where I would drive now and how to maximize my gas usage. Today I had a dealer call and say your product arrived. I could have driven down there today (50+miles one way) but since it’s close to my work, I arranged to have the guy meet me after business hours so I can cut 48 miles out of the journey. What are you doing to save gas?

Living in west Michigan, the gas prices everywhere have gone over $4 for the past few days. I don’t drive for a few years, and some people are predicting that by then it will be over $10. I’ll walk, thanks.

3.69-3.75 for gas in Upstate SC

Here in Sydney, Australia, today the regular unleaded prices were $1.59 per litre. Which converts to $6.92 usd/gallon if my converters aren’t wrong. To make matters worse, our public transport system isn’t exactly top-notch either. It just isn’t convenient to take buses and trains when you often have to wait half an hour in-between services. At least I have a ds to keep me company though.

I just wonder how high the oil prices will rise, and when will electric and solar powered cars become commonplace. Unleaded E10 is pretty new over here (10% Ethanol in Unleaded), so I think we’re pretty behind.

hey, you americans have no idea what expensive fuel is! here in europe (austria) i pay for a gallon of diesel up to 8 (!) dollars! and in germany they even pay 8,55 dollars! so you could really count yourself lucky! i gues it is more than 10 years ago, that we paid 4 dollars or something here …..

hey, you americans have no idea what expensive fuel is! here in europe (austria) i’m paying around 8 dollars for a gallon of diesel and in germany they even pay 8.55!!! i suppose it was 10 years from now, that we paid 4 dollars a gallon or something ….

in Ireland our prices go by litre so i guess we are paying more than you, its 1.31 per litre of petrol and diesel is 1.40 per litre.
1.31 EUR=2.06647 USD
1.40 EUR=2.20845 USD

Herer in Ireland we use the metric system, So we go by litres, At the moment you’d pay between €1.25 – €1.40 for a litre of petrol, So that works out around $5 /Galloon!,

We use the litre system in Norway, so I´ll have to do some math.

For 1 litre is 13.07 NOK
1 Gallon = 3.7854118 Litre
Price of 1 gallon in Norway = 49.47 NOK

49.47 NOK = 9.796 $

So for 1 gallon I´ll have to pay 9.796 $ in Norway.

Here in Berlin (Germany) we pay €1,50 per liter at the moment (€5,67 per gallon) = $8,93 per gallon (current exchange rate) – Ouch! :-/

I remember when I started driving about 10 years ago, gas was .98 per gallon… now… well, it sucks! I don’t want to even get started on my gas price rant, but we cannot keep letting these prices escalate and do nothing about it. Not too long ago we became complacent @ $2.00 per gallon, then $3.00. They play cat and mouse with the prices until they condition us to become complacent with whatever they want to charge for gas. Of course, it’s our fault for being dependent on oil, there are so many other technologies out there that oil should no longer be a factor in transportation, but why do you suppose these technologies aren’t being embraced? Well I better not go into my rant on that, I will be called a conspiracy theorist.

It is $3.98 a gallon here in metro-east Illinois. Across the river in St. Louis it is about .20 cheaper. I haven’t noticed an appreciable difference in the number of cars on the road though. I believe people are going to adjust their spending habits first and cut back on other things before changing their driving habits.

I am paying $4.20 a gallon, and I own my own lawn service business. Imagine what happened to my prices……

Three years ago when my family bought our Toyota Matrix it only took $15.00 to fill up it’s tank. Three years later it takes almost $50.00! Supply and demand? I don’t think so.

What is causing it? I think that the Arabs who own the companies know that gas is almost like air for us, and we”need” it. So they raise prices and don’t produce as much oil. And why not take oil from the Iraqis who we liberated and are not baby-sitting? Or from Mexico who gets millions of dollars because of the illegal immigrants who are in America? We have to pay for their health-care and they don’t pay taxes! It is ridiculous!

It is very interesting though. I have been reading articles that say that the number of people (and businesses) who use video conferencing has gone up exponentially. This totally makes sense. Why not just have a meeting with a person who lives in China over the computer instead of fly them out the Seattle? It is just way more practical.

So the bottom line is this. We need a solution to our problem, and once again geeks are a part of it.

$3.97 as of last night in Orlando and now they are talking about scaling down the bus routes (which is the only sort of transportation my family and I use). If the government -really- wanted us to use less gas, wouldn’t it make more sense to subsidize public transit? Instead, their holding meetings with the topic of cutting it back… -and- they hold these meetings after 8 in the evening so that the lines they are talking of cutting are already shut down. That way, those of us dependent on them aren’t able to attend and make our voices heard.

In Fresno, CA it about a $4.50. It doesn’t effect me that much as I live very close to both my work and school. On average I fill up every three weeks so the higher cost amounts to about a $25 per $1 dollar of gas price increase. Gas would probably have to be about $7 to effect my every travel habits. That not to say that it hasn’t effected by leisure travel habits.

I drive a pick-up that get alright gas mileage and in order for me to get a more fuel efficient vehicle the fuel savings would have to pay for the cost of replacement vehicle. Which means that gas would have to be over $8 a gallon. The calculations are pretty rough and with a break even point in 5 years and they assuming gas price do not increase further.
Based on (16mpg to 30mpg, 7000 travel mile per year, cost of replacement $8000)

I filled up on monday when it was only $3.63/gl, paid about $51.51 for a full tank here in mesa, arizona.

to me, i think these gas prices have changed my driving habits. it puts into perspective what’s “important” on my errand’s list. can’t always go to drive around for fun now. only go from work to home (and during the year – school).

with gas prices moving up, you’d think that people would cease to buying trucks or SUVs but that isn’t that case around here anyway. i’ve seen lots of people on the road with brand new off-the-lot plates. it’s crazy! but i guess those people have the $$$$ to it fork over.

people keep talking about the electric car, but there are other alternate vehicles out there in the prototype stage. check out the link!

-earl

it is 3.99$ where I am. I hope the government does something because the price of gas has more than doubled in the last 5 y ears. That is a significant increase. Our family just gets more fuel efficient vehicles and drives a lot less. its sad no more sunday evening cruises in your 10mpg muscle car

Well… it’s $3.88 here in Louisville at this point. It hit $4.02 last week. It was then that I really started thinking what I am going to do to change my habits. I’ve noticed that I haven’t been going anywhere that much. (As I right this, I’m on a trip for Memorial Day in St. Louis… go figure) And I’ve also stopped eating out as much. If there is one thing that I could say about our world, its this… The news media makes everything 10 times worse than it actually is. Just my 2 cents.

What else can we expect? This has nothing to do with taking our planet for granted for too long (what does that mean?) China and Mexico drill for oil at will and our own enviromental whackos stop us for looking for our own at every turn – we’ve allowed them to take us hostage. We haven’t done squat to produce our own oil since the seventies (refineries or drilling). The Chinese and Mexicans are laughing their butts off at us while they drill for oil off OUR coasts.

Compound this with our Senators giving us a dog and pony show with oil executives…it’s laughable. Are we really that dumb to believe this garbage?

I’m all for solar and wind power, but it’s simply not a viable alternative, YET. We must drill for our own and become less reliant on OPEC. Just the mention that the US is exploring for it’s own oil will drive down speculation price of crude oil.

I live in the Bahamas and we get plenty gas and diesel every day. Gas right now is about $5.90 a gallon and diesel is just over $6. We have to make our own power using generators, so you can imagine what our fuel costs are. They are unfortunatley expected to go up another dollar by the end of the summer.

The government is powerless to do anything. It’s up to the consumer to use less fuel by driving more efficient vehicles (mopeds, motorcycles, bicycles) and utilizing mass-transit.

Americans brought this upon themselves during the SUV boom. We all knew that gas prices were increasing and still people that had no need for towing/hauling capacities provided by SUVs yet we still bought them because “Its the American way”.

In my area, gas is at $4.20/gallon and I’m already looking to move closer to my office so I don’t have the 20 mile drive (one way).

my friend he is a truck drver so in california he had to pay 4.50$ in california and about like 3 or 4 big copanies of truck rivers have closed because of the poces for gas

my friend had to pay 4.50 in california and like bout 3 or 4 truck compnies big ones have closed… but not J.B hunt because they had like a contract like a long time ago and they are getting fuel for like about 36 cents per gallon just like in back 80s and 70s so their compani will stay for a long time and some of the people that work as a truckdriver havent get their money for giong placesthats what I know for sure!!!!

probably soon school districs will make kids go to school or ride on their bikes and u guys just to tell u New York is the area where people pay the most for gas and i live at New york and I dont have home buisness and the place where I work is pretty far and again I do think we pay way to much the goverment have gone crazy out here I mean not like only out here its all over the world like this !!!

It was $3.95 yesterday here in West Virginia. Maybe it will go down after Memorial Day weekend. Too bad we can’t sent the extra money they charge us over to our soldiers!

Dont cry USA, we pay in germany 11,1864 Dollar for 1 gallon

I paid $3.80 yesterday, but while riding around with friends later the prices seemed to go higher every time we passed a station. My friend Donna said the most secure job in town is being a gas station price changer.

Woah. 60 bucks for 15 gallons. Gas just goes up in price everyday now. I dont think that many people will change there driving habits once gas reaches $4 a gallon. I wonder when it will drop back down to 70c a gallon lol

In Belgium, the prise for gas is about 1,58 euro per litre, which equates to about 9,41 USD per US Gallon.
It seems that the US gas prizes are playing ‘catch-up with the rest of the world :-)
In Belgium, like the rest of Europe, Diesel is more popular than ‘regular’ gas for cars. It’s ‘only’ about 1,42 Euro per litre, or about 8,46 USD per gallon. If I fill up my tank, its bout 75-80 euro, or about 120-125 USD per refill.
I don’t see much reasons for complaining for you guys…
A lot of homes use gas for their Central Heating system, which is becoming too expensive even for moderate-income households.

I am currently not paying for anything at the pump because I am too broke to buy a car. Wish i could part take in the post.

Gas is $3.80 in Waco, TX.

Certainly in large cities with a good public transit infrastructure driving less is an option, but I don’t know what people in smaller cities or large cities with poor public transit are going to do.

When I lived in Chicago I drove a lot less than I do here in Texas, simply because of a lack of choice.

Add the brutal summer weather here and you are hard pressed to find people even walking short distances, everything is by car.

In the USA, gas is pretty cheap compared to other countries such as the United Kingdom. I never really think about how much it costs, because when I fill up the car, it has to be filled up, so one day it could be $50 for the tank to be filled, where the next day it could be $75. I know it is getting expensive on the US standards, but in reality, it is still very cheap.

Gas in Texas is going at about $3.75 a gallon. Much higher and I may have to start walking again.

I am to young to be driving at this stage. Although, I do know that when my parents pay they pay a lot. They don’t fill up as frequently though. They will wait basically until their, “running on fumes.”

£1.30 per litre in the UK.Work it out!.
So think yourselves lucky.
:-)

I pay 8.26$ per gallon in Denmark.

I totally agree, the only solution to this is having an alternate fuel source, I don’t know, also making hybrid cars cheaper, and all that kind of stuff.

As of this morning, I’m paying $3.85/Gal. One thing that gets me it the fact that there is an oil refinery (where they make the gas) less than 10 miles from my home, yet gas is cheaper in Tennessee than it is here. The government has opened a couple of million acres in the Gulf of Mexico for drilling, which is supposed to lower the prices. I don’t think the oil companies will lower any price unless forced to by the Government. Alternate fuels will need to be found and soon, but the oil companies will fight it tooth and nail. until the government steps in and funds some of these alternate meathods, oil companies will continue to control the bloodline of America, and the world.

$7.15 per gallon (EU)

up here in Connecticut its going for somewhere around 4.11-4.20 per gallon. Back in Oklahoma when I left it was only about 3.69, and to think I now see that as cheap

I pay $4.15 a gallon here in NYC. It has curbed my traveling a little bit and there IS a lot less traffic on the highway. However, public transportation is very effective here =]

I live in the Bay Area too… gas prices are over $4.20 at my area.
Lol on the news they say that people are using bicycles to go to work. And I thought millions migrated here just so they can have a car. Yes to car, no to gas XDD

the goverment is still putting money in the black gold because there a few reasons it is a great way for a war we mide not know it but its the reason for the war in iraq and they get alot of money out of butif they use other kinds of fuel like water the cant ay very much money of it because water is eery were this is my point for why we still us gas instead of water

Yesterday it went from $2.58 to $3.99

and today its 4.01 tomorrow the Maine legsislator is voting on taking away gas taxes from the public then possibly banning gas cars by the year 2023

Does 3.99 and 9/10 counts as $4.00 US? That’s the going rate at Costco in Livermore, CA and it’s one of the cheapest around.

last time i looked, it costs about £1.20 per litre in the south west of England.
that works out at $8.99 per gallon, in some parts of the UK it can be more than £1.30…
So if your american and have posted on this blog, you should stop moaning and count yourselves lucky!

I live in venezuela, we pay 0.1 Bsf. per litre. i fill my car’s tank with 3 dollars.

believe it or not I pay about 1/3 usd per liter (the premium). It’s about 1 dollar per gallon. That’s the price because I live in middle east (where you get your oil from. I know you think that we are gaining a fortune, but we aren’t because everything became more expensive.

i am to young to drive so i don’t have to worry about gas prices yet, but the gas around my house is about $3.70 a gallon.

Over the northern border, I’m paying $1.25/L, about $4.73/US gallon.
Even as a student I’ve changed my driving more then a little. I’m probably saving 20% by driving like a granny, it’s a little weird to drive slow. On the upside, my old 1992 Jeep will probably live longer because of it.

North America is hooked on oil. Making ethanol out of corn is just taking away from the food supply. I believe we should pour funding into long term power, preferably renewable. For much of the southern most states, solar is quite feasible, not so much for most of Canada though. If only we could get solar efficiency to push beyond ~20% …

Hello Chris, around here gas is still high, what else is new the lowest is about $3.70, but as we progress through 2008, gas will probably still be at the extremes. The government needs to cut down on the ethanol because i think it’s only making prices worse. Well, let’s hope that gas will go down!

$3.69 here… But I was in the UK last month and paid almost $9 a gallon. I think maybe we’re bitching a bit too much.

Just filled up yesterday at $4.05. Way to much in my own opinion. Anyone remember when gas was bellow a dollar? I think I was like 12 at the time.

$3.89, but if it hits $4 I’m going to buy an electric bike of some sort. Come on people, you can drop the dirty crude! Save your cash and buy a boat XD

In Germany we pay roughly 10 to 13 USD per Gallon. I really hope that the prices are rising, since we passed the point of Peak of Oil.

Wow.. ..almost $4 per gallon – how lucky you are!

I’ve just filled up my BMW 325i here in Glasgow, Scotland at a cost of 115.9p per litre. Translated into US measurements, that’s $8.67 per US gallon.

Also.. ..it’s been going up here at a steady 2 to 3% per month every month for the last year.

You can check out gas prices by zipcode here: http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

Gas isn’t a public service it’s an industry. The government can’t really do anything about it in a free market society. If they could would you really want them to? All your tax R&D dollars have been going to Hydrogen research because nobody will ever use that technology.
There were working electric cars in the 90s when battery capacity was like 1/8th what it is now.

I’m also in the Seattle area – so you know how much gas is out here – and have a pretty good commute from Sammamish out t Ballard (about 25 miles).

I’ve taken public transport a few times, but it adds about 2+ hours to my day and with my job I frequently have to stay late which would equal missing the bus so it isn’t really an option for me at this point.

More than gas, the main factor that would get me to drive less and take public transportation more is when they decide to implement a toll on the bridges that cross lake Washington and how much they are. I believe I’ve heard $8-$10 being thrown out there as possibilities and at that point I’ll be taking the bus.

I got a summer internship so I could get experience in engineering and make some money over the summer. It’s a great job, but it’s also a bit of a drive. With gas prices as high as they are in the Chicago area I almost feel like I am working just so I can afford to get to work haha.

I live in Allentown, PA (about 1 hour north of Philadelphia) and the price I paid yesterday was $3.85. Boy am I glad that I have a 12 gallon tank in my Toyota. Corolla that has a 5-speed manual transmission. I have absolutely NO sympathy for people that complain about gas prices when they are driving as gas-hungry V-8 SUV. Sorry folk, you’ve come to the wrong place.

its $4.09 here in california, and thats the cheapest. I work at home too thank god for that, but occasionally I look at the gas prices and the price in total and just sigh. Its only a matter of time before we use a different fuel source.

Great post Chris!

My complaint is the $99 limit on many pumps. My Suburban has a 40 gal tank. If I try to fill up at Costco when I have less than half a tank the pump will stop before I am full. Luckily I don’t have to drive that beast much anymore. Pumps are going to have to add a third digit to the readout – I think this is a financial limitation since it looks like there is room in the display.

3.85/Gal Las Vegas, NV.

$50 to fill up a KIA SPECTRA. WOW.

Its somewhere around 4.60 near Glendale, CA. I say we need a higher wages!

3.98/gallon here in Nashville, TN. Foreign oil dependency will do that to ya. But we love it, lol. When I build my first house I am setting $10,000 aside so that when the build is finished we will be going completely solar. Enough of this stuff.

one day i calculated that i pay $9/gallon here in germany, after that day i stopped calculating and started driving only when needed, and riding that bike once a week.

yeah $9 / Gallon, think about it

Over here in Montreal (Canada in case you don’t know where that is :P) we’re paying $1.43 per liter, which if my calculations are correct, work out to about $5.40 per gallon. we’re paying way too much. No matter what the price is, 10 cents of it is tax, and there’s a large tax on the final price. so we have to pay tax on top of tax :(

I’m paying ninety eight cents per litter (In Puerto Rico) because I fill my car with regular gas, not premium. Because I drive a 2000 ford explorer believe when I tell you that my driving habits have changed. I think twice now to make leisure trips and I’m even thinking on trading my SUV for a hybrid. Would it be worth it? How about the value of repairing a car like that?, it can get really expensive. I’m still thinking it, but with this economy, only time will tell.

Here in Pakistan we are paying $ 2.74 per gallon of Diesel. They say the cost of fuel is still cheap as compared to the rest of countries over here but it won’t be for long.

Government is not able to maintain any more subsidies for fuel prices. The economy is in pretty bad shape right now. Every thing’s price including fuel and other commodities is going sky high.

Where I am located, Timmins, Ontario, Canada. The price used to be $0.98 per Litre, now its $1.34 per Litre and no, my driving habits have not changed, but according to the news, the price per Litre is supposed to reach $1.51 by the end of summer, then go back down slowly and before Christmas, the price should be back to normal.

Maybe this is the wake-up call to all americans to pressure their states representatives to start looking into a more responsible form of energy people can blame environmentalists all they want to cause more pollution and destroy our hopeless planet even further or just take some accountability and try and make a change so we and our offspring have a habitable planet

I’m just north of Everett and pretty much have the same prices as Seattle. What happens with the fuel economy is that everyone gets ticked at the prices but when they rise, people just budget it into their income. Wish there was something that we could do as a whole, but there really isn’t. If we boycott, we hurt local businesses… And don’t forget that oil is also used in plastics so there’s that large portion going to packaging and what-nots.. Guess we got to suck it up and hope for the best…

I actually don’t drive but my mother does. So, it requires us to buy it by paying $3 per gallon.though the price sometimes varies but it exists in the range of $2.50-$3.

I have a Hybrid vehicle so the price hike has not affected me as much as my friends. Last time I filled up it was around $3.91 a gallon for 87 octane. Generally that will run me about $50 to $60 to fill a tank from empty to full. When I first got this hybrid car gas was $1.50+ a gallon and I had a hard time breaking $20 to fill it.

I don’t pay for gas directly, but I am starting to feel the effects of higher fuel costs in regular public transportation.
Never mind having to wait over twenty minutes for the bus to get to the station; the fares are nearly double what they were just months ago in my area. This is especially true for long distance bus routes.

I’ve been riding my bike more. :)

I live in Connecticut. Gas is about $4.15 in some places and others about $4.30. Crazy! One night, gas was $4.00 and it went up 15 cents over night. No lies! A recent news article (read on Comcast News) stated that the Goverment sat down with the oil companies and ask them what they were doing. The oil companies were trying to persuade that they are doing everything they can to keep the price of oil and gas down. Pfft yeah right! They want money. It is very sick, the econemy is terrible.

I just paid 3.94 per gallon here in Vermont. One place I passed was at 3.99… I’ve yet to see over 4.00…

Amazing though… I can remember paying 0.87 per gallon in 1999. Boy do I miss that!

It depends on the station. You’ll have to drive around for 10 minutes to find a good one. The most expensive last I saw was 3.92, the least was 3.62, but you had to walk in and pre-pay on that.

It is right around $4.00 here in Arizona. I pay about $60.00 every two weeks. I do not travel too much though so I am not affected too much in that way. I just travel back and forth to school, work, and home.

It makes me sad, however, to see how American car companies are unmotivated to find alternate forms of energy. I mean, a car company in France just invented a car that runs on COMPRESSED AIR!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ov4t1P9bdGw

At the moment i’m in San Francisco. Since, I live in the downtown area, I don’t need a car to travel one place to another. Which do save me a lot of money. But until, I goto school this fall public transporation would be the way to get there. Still, the cost of traveling around would not be as much in one day of fill up if I was in L.A. I can’t imagine when i get back to L.A., my bank account will be drained.

Hi, well gas prices in Georgia is also high. It’s about $3.86 per gallon and a drive a Dodge ram v8 year 2001. I spend $70 every two days, which is calculated about $245 a week. If I drive my truck for two hours straight there goes $70 dollars. (No lies) My truck is drinking gas like I’m drinking water. well if you live in Georgia heres a link for cheaper gas in different areas codes http://www.georgiagasprices.com

I’m paying about $4, there isn’t much I can do though. I need to drive my car to get to work. I really hope and alternative fuel source is introduced in the near future or I will go bankrupt paying for gas.

Well, Chris i am currently not driving since i don’t have a car but as for right now, getting a car will be just to much of a hassle for me and totally out of the question. since i don’t drive my dad or my dad’s friend comes and picks me up at my house in phoenix and its a 25 min drive from my house to my dads work.

The average gas prices here in AZ are about $3.79 a gallon and are still continuing to rise higher and higher.

right now in mesa, where i work with my dad, the gas is $3.85 a gallon which is really ridiculous and too much.

i believe that congress and the gov should get there act together before the economy’s resession gets even worse.

of you read this comment tell me what you think congress should do for us people who cant pay that much for gas.?

gas prices are getting way to high and something needs to be done, but then on the other hand if 1 million people stopped driving for a day maby the polar Ice caps would stop melting as fast, so its kinda of a mixed feeling yay for the environment, bad for me.

Around $1.20 a litre… sorry, I’m Canadian so I can’t tell you in your measurements. Anyway, I haven’t left my house for a long time, I get my mom to drive for me so I keep my money in my wallet XD

3.95 down here in Kennewick, Washington today – for the most part. A few daring stations broke 4 dollars as early as 4 days ago. I don’t blame them tho, the economy of that industry is not making the station proprietors wealthy – very very minor profit for them on gas (some actually take a loss) – the profit margin is all inside the station on the 3 dollar cartons of eggs and 6 dollar packs of cigarrettes.

Gotta go a few steps up from the station level to find the people who are truly lining their pockets from this – and a lot of it (as I think someone may have referenced earlier) is not driven by auto consumption as we think of it. Petroleum..plastics…industry transport…fact is consumer level consumption is the tip of the iceberg – but any habit changes are better than none, for our own sakes.

Some may argue that we are still not approaching the averages of other nations who are at 8 dollars or more a gallon – but the thing to remember with those countries is that those prices are HEAVILY taxed in ways ours isnt – tax paying for socialized healthcare and other high-price programs – so if our prices do approach those levels, it is actually pretty skewed proportionately :(

I would use public transportation for work myself by now, but kid school schedules vs my work schedule makes that impossible without losing an hour of work each day – which would be self defeating – but I definately encourage anyone who has the means to do so to please consider it – besides saving a dollar (or 50) you will also be helping our environment

I don’t think there is going to be any significant change in habits until gas goes to $8/gal and it will because every significant ‘expert’ has it going to $200 a barrel. I am using rail and bus more and more in an era where everyone likes to have their own car milieu. I have an Itouch with me so I can catchup on my emails. I noticed one of the candidateswas offering a gas tax holiday that would never pass Congress and would save me about the amount to buy 18 Gummi Bears. Interestingly, (to me) while there is much hype over the Prius, what people don’t typically know is that Toyota has actually lobbied heavily to block gas efficiency in the US to promote their big trucks. And powerful Congresspeople like Levin from Michigan have blocked us from having 1/2 the fuel efficiency that European cars now have. We have about 7/10 gas hog SUVs on the road in my large city.

Hey Chris!
Here in San Diego we are paying around $4.20 for the cheep stuff. But its a whole another story for diesel its over $5.15 a gallon, which I’m sure it is almost everywhere else in the country. unfortunately this raises the prices on everything since everything that is at a store is trucked in using a diesel tractor trailer.
I think no matter the price of gas people are still going to use their car to do their daily tasks because here in San Diego we have to drive and we cant walk to get on with necessary life. Well we could walk but it would take over 20x longer
=]

I have the greatest tip ever for having a low gas bill. Don’t drive period. I’m only a student, so I don’t even have a car. I have to use my trusty bike to get from place to place. Life is hard.

i dont drive but my gf puts about 50 a week in to her gas tank. She trys not to drive as much but she still does not what to use the bus for trasportaion

I’m in Texas and it is still hovering under $4 a gallon. I’m one of the lucky ones, especially since I’m not driving nearly as much working from home. I feel for the rest of the country and as I said before, I feel that the next president is certainly going to have to address this issue sooner rather than later.

Here in the UK we’re paying £1.25 per litre. That equates to $9.45 per gallon. Does this stop us driving? No. Driving these days is a necessity – almost comparable with eating and drinking.

We have little alternative here. Even public transport is exceptionally expensive. Whereas I could drive from here to see my grandfather for about £6, a train ticket to the town 10 miles away costs £17. This equates to a total cost of about £20 when you take into account him driving to the station to collect me.

It’s time the government started taking an active approach to making transport easier rather than continually cranking up the taxes on fuel.

Phil

I am paying $15 a month for a 15 litres gas cylinder in india.
But even I have my vehicle, i usually travel by bus because it saves money, reduces pollution, and more over safe.

So i am a small contributor of good nature.

Haha… oh man… do I have to say really? This all depends on what day you ask me… and what promotion I’m using that day too. If you’re asking me what kind of price I’m looking at when I go to the gas station… well that’s simple… it’s been over $4.00.

Current price today: $4.11

So the real question is: How does that gas price add up to the standard and cost of living? We already know that there’s a huge economy crisis – and the poor are getting poorer… and the rich… are pretty much staying rich. The middle class are starting to dwindle as well due to these rising costs and inflation. Where is the money going is the question?

I would argue very sincerely that I’d be willing to pay 4.11 for gas if it really evened out over the rest of society and the amount of income I was receiving… but truth is, paying $50-$60 a tank of gas is becoming more of a crutch than it used to be at $10. Since gas spiked so much within the last 4 to 5 years, it seems just odd. I was watching a movie from the ’80s and saw the gas prices there… there was a 10 cent difference from what I was paying in high school… versus the 3.25 difference in the last 5 years.

The plunge into higher gas prices was not inevitable… it is a sign though that something is going on in our economy. Is it environmental? Is it economical? Does it have anything to do with the war? All these questions are being addressed right now…

This is what we know though – there’s a reason for such an increase, and there’s a reason we need to look into it further. It is a definite sign that serious changes are taking place and that if we don’t get on top of the “why,” ALL (yes, including the rich) will have serious consequences later.

Think about it.

Kind Regards,
-Shaina

Cheapest gas here in Atlanta is about $3.78. And gas isn’t something that you can just decide not to buy – it’s a necessity. Well, at least somebody’s making money.

Well i don’t drive with a car, well my mother does and i’m not that much updated with prices either, even tough my mom sometimes tells me how high those prices were or are but they just go flying in from one ear and flying from other. But i have noticed tough that it is getting expensive tough but i think the gas shouldn’t be that expensive i know that hurricane Catherina had some devastating impact in the gulf of Mexico but now most of the oil rigs are working. I think some one is just holding the price up artificially. it’s because for people to realize that gas will be out soon or that he just wants extra money in his pocket.

The gas prices are getting higher and higher. Here in Europe it’s now like €1,60, which is about 2,50$.
People are trying to find alternatives, but it’s hard cause using products that feeds people is just not an option.

I don’t pay anything, i got a card to travel free with public transport in the netherlands. Problem is because of the gas prices they transport company isn’t making much profit at all. And drivers want more money… so last month and still now are demostrations and kinda whole public transport is down…..

then again i’ve got a nice bicycle :)

My dad has to pay £50 at a station thats about $75! WAY WAY too expensive, just walk where u can, in england its easier but as i know, for americans its much harder with little sidewalks and long distances between wal-mart or a shop and home!

Ik that this is probably offending some National thing our country has, but, why don’t we just have our government getting the oil, than having some Crooked company getting it, and we outsource it,
Am I right?
We just recently hit the $4.00 dollar mark in NY half way upstate.
thanks for listening.

we pay every 2 or 3 days we pay more then 1,000 for diesel for my dads semi truck the prices have gone way too far

In Europe where I am from 1 liter of gas costs over 1 euro. That means that a gallon will be over 4 euros. That means a gallon in Europe costs over 6$! What are we suppose to do is to find another type of fuel for our cars.

Its over $4 now here in the suburbs of Chicago. It costs so much to fill up even once, i dont know what to do about it. As you said, public transportation isnt always available around here, and there arent any alternative fuel stations around either. We are all taking a punch in the gut with gas, and we better hope something happens soon because frankly i dont know how much more of this i can take :)

Already above $4 dollars here in Los Angeles… I’m buying a bike or a horse soon. We are just too dependent on gas these days. I’m actually glad this is happening though; that way we’ll probably get off our butts and research on an acceptable alternative…

Yeah, it is very very sad that we are allowing oil companies to make so much money on our desires and needs. I hope that international government will crack down on the oil companies for taking advantage of the Iraq war and their collective monopoly.

There is a term in economics called “elasticity”. This refers to how elastic a particular good is. If an item is price elastic, consumers set the price. They will stop paying for an item once it hits a certain level. The more inelastic a good is, the more the price can change while consumers will continue to pay. Prescription drugs are a great example of an inelastic good. If you need medicine to live, you (or your insurance policy) will pay for it.

Petrol is one of those incredibly inelastic goods in many areas. For example, while I pay a lot of money for it here, I have no alternative. Atlanta does not have a great public transit infrastructure within the city limit, much less OTP (outside the perimeter; you guys would call these suburbs). Therefore, I do not have the luxury of cycling, riding a buss, etc, to work. I must either fork over the money or go to a less academically rigorous school (along with working at a fast food restaurant, rather than in an office, etc.) because I can’t just find another way into the city. Many people are in a similar situation.

I’m paying more than most in this time of gas monopoly in that I had a stroke 2 years ago and paralyzed my right side. Which then led to having no job due to that. Lets face it, who wants to hire someone like that? But lets get back to the flow. No job leads to no money, had to depend on family for everything. Now I get social security and that helps to get me to a very limited few places in my car. And doctors visits are included in those limited places, now that gas has gotten so darn high. In the near future I’m not going to be able to afford maintaining my car. Buses aren’t available in this area either. So for the handicapped worse off than me is really bad. BTW….I get half of what I used to make in pay. :(

Down here in Dallas, Texas, we are paying close to $4/gallon. It really hurts when you drive an old pick up that uses that gas like there’s no tomorrow. I sure do wish that the U.S. and other countries would start worrying about fuels and research instead of wars and oil.

It is just over 4 where I live. But you absolutely NEED a car to get around. The middle of no where is no joke, and riding a bike isnt going to help. I am sure that this was predicted a long time ago and people just blew it off. We should really just start drilling in Alaska until environmentalists have a better idea.

I’ve been told I pay very little for gas. Just today, as a matter of fact, I was talking to a friend from southern California. He was surprised when I told him that I yesterday paid 99.7¢ per liter, or approximately $3.77 per gallon. He almost barked at me when he read this. He says he pays $4.27 per gallon, or approximately $1.13 per liter.

I wasn’t surprised when he told me this because I read a lot of news of the United States but once I told my mother about the price of gas in southern California, she said she’d faint if she saw gas prices like this.

I remember when I first got my car back in 2004, I filled up once with $14 (42.9¢ / liter). Now, $14 serve for 1/3 of a tank, 1/4 of a tank.

P.S: I live in Puerto Rico.

around my town we only pay about 3.40 a gallon which is pretty cheap compared to the rest of the world

Gas is going for $3.95 a gallon around here. I definitely am staying home a lot more and not going out as much. =(

I’m paying 3.92 per gallon currently in Sun Prairie, WI. It almost broke 4 dollars the other day, but nope, not quite. I think us, society as a whole, depend on automotive vehicles too much, thus gasoline. No matter how high the gas goes up, we continue to drive and spend the way we do. One day, we’re gonna run out of gas, and the problem will come to an end. Hopefully.

Yesterday, I went to a Shell gas station, and the gas was…. $4.06!!!!! I almost cried as my money dwindled away. The proces are horrible now in CA.

I’ve seen that stuff before on TV. I’m sure it would work just fine, except for the fact that Hydrogen gas is very dangerous, and its agitation is a lot more hazardous than lighting ethanol on fire. I’ve also seen stuff about powering cars with Tritium, or maybe even electricity or solar power. THese are all really great ideas, but there’s a huge problem I see that questions the practicality of the matter: changing car fuel means, change in cars, gas stations, oil refineries, etc. Companies associated with those things must expend ALOT of money, setting up new “gas pump”, trashing all the cars and making new ones, or remodel of current cars, etc. Not to mention the consumer aspect, where your car that you bought for 20,000 dollars is now practically worthless. I don’t think as a society we’re ready to move onto radical changes like this. If it was a society where everybody is best friends with one another and a trust could be developed to maybe even bring up the idea, we might stand a chance.

^^^^ oops please remove that post ^^^^

I live in Sun Prairie, WI, and gas is 3.92 per gallon. I agree with you Chris, even when it’s 6 dollars, hell, maybe even 8 dollars, people aren’t going to drive or spend any less. As a society, we have an overdependence on cars, thus gas. The only thing I can think of that can solve the problem is if we run out of gas =P

Yeah i don’t drive yet but i check out the prices for when my parents get gas and it is around $3 over in Indiana and diesel has sy rocketed up to $5 a gallon this is crazy!

Here in california its $4.29 a gallon in the part i live in…..its expensive….and im running out of money :(

I live in Northeast Ohio. Regular unleaded has been floating around $3.95 a gallon.

I think it’s just absolutely ridiculous how they’re gouging truckers with the price of diesel. A lot of people don’t realize it, but that’s how they’re getting more money from the rest of us as well. Everything in this country comes to us in one way or another from trucks. The cost of everything rises as the cost of diesel rises. Our entire cost of living is due to the price of fuel.

We filled up in Indiana 2 months ago at around $4.15.
However, Europeans are coming here and loving how cheap it is.
Not to mention the USD is worth nothing.

im paying about $4.07 per gal witch is 91 witch is like 45-50$ a tank that sucks cuz thats like a whole days wroth of work :-( i need a better job or get more $$$

I live in NYC and don’t own a car though we are zipcar members, which allows us to use a car for about $12/hour (including gas and insurance!) as needed, which for us is maybe once or twice monthly at most. Otherwise, we walk or take public transportation. Given the high prices of gas, I’ve never been happier that we don’t have a car of our own, but it’s still having an impact on us in terms of commodity costs, energy costs, etc. I do think more people in NYC are opting to use public transportation rather than driving right now, largely because of the high fuel costs — but it makes a huge difference that the public transportation system infrastructure is in place that allows people to make that choice. For people who live in suburban or rural areas, they depend on their cars to get to work, run errands, etc — they are stuck needing to drive regardless of how high gas prices climb. People can still make adjustments — not taking certain discretionary trips (vacations, etc.) or carpooling to work — and I think they will do so increasingly as prices climb. But if the only way to get to work is in your car, what choice do you really have? If gas prices continue to climb, I suspect it could have a real impact on certain types of communities in this country, kind of the reverse of the suburbanization that took place after WWII as cars made it easier for people to work in cities but live outside them. More people may seek to live in or very near cities. There are people who live 2-2.5 hours outside NYC and commute in daily by car. They have to really be feeling the pain of those gas prices, and I imagine that type of commuting will become increasingly untenable.

If this is a competition then I win! Here in the UK we are now paying over $10 a gallon and the price is rising every day! Although a 2 litre engine is considered large here, the average being around 1600cc.

$ 2,05 but thats for one litre. -0,26 US gallon!
-About $ 8 for a US gallon!
-Living on the swedish westcoast vo don´t realy understand why you are crying.

Gas here in Sacramento, Ca is around $4.45 a gallon. I spend about $80 a day on gas, it cost about $120+ to fill up my truck 26 gallon tank.

Gas Here In Los Angeles is $4.63 /gal

Yes I agree that gas prices are high, who gives a crap about that I want to know about the oil prices for winter. Has anyone
called to find out what that will cost? Let me tell you, I have been calling around and the cheapest I found was one place
is charging $3.99 a gallon and if I use their budget plan it will
be spread out over 10 months at $4.50 per gallon so 1 fill up
for a 275 gallon tank will cost $1237.50, If I pay cash up front
it will be $1097.25. I used to pay $328 for the same amount of oil. I normally would get 3 fill ups for the winter. I do not have
3703.50 to heat my home. We need to drill in this country now
or we will be burying alot of frozen people. We are on the Titanic and sinking fast. No one seems to care because the
United States is used to wasting energy, time, money. No one
thinks about the future because we are a now society. I have 3 jobs and am trying to make ends meet nothing is working. All utilities have gone up, Gas,food, taxes, insurances. Wake up america. We need something done NOW .

What Do You Think?
