There are a ton of people that dislike you. That's been going on since the success of Lockergnome. When you're good at something, people hate you. No new story there. Before you've let dumb crap like this slide. It happened with the Chat room, and the “rebels” went off to rant and groan in the “old” LG chatroom. And you're like nyaaa, whatever.
Why did you let the Newsgroups slip? In my opinion, it's a TERRIBLE mistake! The NG's were one of LG's biggest strengths! Don't let them die now!
The NG's were LG's very own community. It was the way people with common interests (in your newsletter) could exchange information. People helped people with tech problems, and recently people could conduct honest trades through the groups as well.
If anything, the Newsgroups make Lockergnome all that it is. The newsletters are great – don't get me wrong. But being able to keep in touch with (mostly) good people in an open forum is really fantastic. It sure beats the “public” usenet.
It sucks that randy left. However, some of the problems he was constantly having with the NG's are solvable through using a web-forum instead. This can cancel the use of HTML, as well as the posting of attachments. And if people become obnoxious, you can just ban their IP and kill their accounts.
I sent you an email awhile back about using PHP/MySQL to publish Lockergnome, and although you turned down my request at the time for me to write you the code, it looks like Tony decided to pick it up.
Great! How about someone invest some time in making an on-line LG forum? Just use phpBB – the one you use for Gnomedex.
Just remember: without the community, there is no newsletter.

Ugh. Those folks that are bitchin' about the GnomeTomes suck, but Chris' attitude and reaction is no better. So there are whining people complaining. That's nothing new. You're in business. No matter what you do or how you do it someone will always complain. Seems to me Chris is on his way to a major breakdown. Perhaps that vacation wouldn't be such a bad idea after all. Seriously. I know Chris is cool, but lately, he's been anything but. A week or too at your favorite place of relaxation could do you some real good.

one lil bit for shutting down the negativity. Who needs it?
Life is too short. People seem to forget you are a human

How many people are here who have gone through his rants before via the newsgroups? Not many it looks like. When ever there is any negative feedback, Chris blows up and threatens to close the newsgroups. It has happen over the years. Funny thing is, they aren't his but in name only. They will be back up in the owner's name: Bill from Daze [where I have quite a few domains with].
Chris acts like a spoiled baby when things aren't going his way. I'm tired of it, many others are as well.
Oh, Chris and Jake: please no more emails from you. I'm done with you.

Strictly, Chris, it's “a lot *fewer* enemies/people” – sort of a discrete/continuous variable thing. Try saying “fewer milk” a few times to get the hang of it.

I've been kludging for a year trying to send personal mail from behind my co. firewall, and you fixed it for me. Keep up the good work and bollocks to them – I'll buy one of your tip books.

Some people sit and wait for something to slam. They don't have anything better to do. Sounds way too much like the jealousy thing.
Hell, I don't understand half of what you talk about, and have never seen your dang show or bought your dang Gnome thing, but what's the diff? It's a service that you're offering. That's cool. But the people that don't like it are most likely pissed because nobody catches on to their pointless memes and whatever else they try and create.
Being a misunderstood prick is fun. Doesn't get you club passes, but it is strangely satisfying in its own special way.

I am a “stealth reader” also. Never posted before and probably won't again, but for fear I will only extend this, I just have to say that I think the green eyed monster is alive and well. It's too bad that when you acheive a little bit of success there is always someone just chomping at the bit to burst your bubble.

Yes, Chris could be doing something else. But he's not. He's just looking to boost his inflated ego to match the size of his enourmous noggin. Even his peers at TechTV can't seem to stand him. It's obvious that Patrick Norton wants to fling Chris like baby-poop across the studio whenever Chris is on the show. Now that I'd pay $5 to see.

Chris, some people just can't live unless they have something to rant about.
The Gnometomes, although I must egotistically admit that I am not in the market for most of those due to personal growth and experience, are a great idea, and the current price for them is reasonable. Has anyone been to a “classroom” setting to learn about, say, MS Word? I have. Luckily my company covered the cost. But have you seen the cost for those things? And the total number of tips that I got from the class that was beyond information that one could find in the help file was about 2. 10 cents a tip is pretty darned cheap if you ask me.
Go get 'em Chris. Entrepreneurship is a great thing.

I was reading some of those posts to the newsgroups. I am a reader not a poster. I think its amazing, but I do believe everyone is able to have thier own opinion. I own a newsgroup myself and send out a weekly newsletter. Its not a big one, but I still get people on my ass all the time. I dont get paid for it, but I do it because I want to. Chris does it because he wants to. He could be doing something totally different, if he wanted to.
I just think that everything should stop. I dont like the negativity, and I really dont like the way everyone has responded to it. It seems sometimes these things are posted just because someone needs a boost.
I have been a reader for a long long time, and I do believe Chris has changed. I for one, though, am no longer a reader. Once I saw all that happend, I unsubscribed from his newsletters and I am now no longer reading his blog. Sure, its only one person, but just remember, Im not the only one who is leaving. Many, many people feel the same way. Ego boost or not Chris, enough is enough. Yes, we know people like to come to your defense when things are said, but really…every other day?
