VoIP Tips Skype, Phones, Gizmo, and Ventrilo

I don’t use traditional means of communication anymore. I tend to use VoIP more than anything. I have Ventrilo open pretty much constantly, to communicate easily with my friends and co-workers. I also just installed it on Ponzi’s computer, so we can use it as an on-demand intercom. Today, I decided to give the Gizmo Project a try, as well.

Gizmo is a free phone for your computer that lets you make and receive calls as easily as sending an instant message. The key features are:

  • Unlimited free calling
  • FREE calling to landline and mobile phones using the All Calls FREE plan.
  • Chat with Windows Live Messenger, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, GoogleTalk, and Gizmo users.
  • Free voicemail

For about $35.00 a year, you can receive unlimited Call In. This allows anyone to call you from anywhere. You will be assigned an actual phone number, and will have call transfer, dual ring and even call forwarding capabilities!

It’s so easy to use. I demonstrated by calling my new Gizmo number from my iPhone. I then walked into another room and talked into the phone, while you all could hear it coming through the computer. Very cool, very easy… very affordable!

You make the best videos, keep them coming.

thanks for the tips chrls! lol

If you have GrandCentral and Gizmo you can have your GC number call your Gizmo SIP number.

that is some expensive intercom hardware

I have to say Ventrilo is a great piece of software but I do not like the fact the when it saves recorded files it saves it in its own format making them unusable elsewhere.

Gizmo - you can, to a certain extent, get landline-based incoming calls for free without the CallIn addon. “Certain extent?” Well, if you share the same area code as one of their cernters - there are several, but far from all. Actually, YOU don’t pay, but your caller may have to. Still worth looking at -

Alas, it seems to apply only to one of my many family members (in Connecticut)…

ventrillo sucks so bad

my friends don’t have skyoe accounts and if they were on skype then they would also be on MSN so we could chat on there

I like Skype…I knew about Teamspeak and Ventrillo but I have only tried Teamspeak and didn’t like it…I’ll give Ventrillo a try and maybe Gizmo but I like Skype’s services…I have both SkypeIn and SkypeOut and I use it quite often…it is perfect for long distance calls since they are free. :)

I would definitely use Skype if I knew other people who used it

never seen any of your videos before tonight, watched a few, and think its cool what your doing. props

I am so tired of land lines. But until They get an IP other than cable to host internet service and a technology that’s as fast as DSL,Cable, ect. I have tried Gizmo project and use it not on a daily basis but atleast a few times per week. I will be trying Skype.

I use skype as a home phone. it’s cheap as ***

i love skype i dont have to pay federal taxes or long distance out of the world works great.

It’s the perfect way to stick it to the phone companys. I save soo much money now. : )

please kill yourself it’s called PBX

Go On Ventrilo With This Server!! IP:85.17.6.48 Port:3784

i agree!! mynes erik.honse if u want to add me!

I really cannot see the point of skype - it only works to other users. This was a problem they created by using a proprietary system. If they had used the existing industry standard (SIP) they could have connected to thousands of other networks globally which is the great thing about GIZMO….and hardware devices too of course. Not to mention having to leave a 300watt computer on 24/7 just to use the phone - good grief, how many users do they boast about?

Thank you for the great tips! Ventrilo is the right way to go, IMO.
