VNC or Remote Desktop or What?

My last caller for tonight was AfroThunder, another long-time member. He was wondering if I know of any KVM’s with USB support. There are several out there, but I’m unsure as to what brand may be better. You definitely want to get the most for your money. You have to keep in mind what kind of video it supports. I’m unsure of pricing, also. He plans to use the KVM to switch from the Notebook to the Desktop.

Instead of doing this, I wonder if he’s thought of using Win2VNC.

This program will let you use two screens on two different computers as if they were connected to the same computer. It even works between different operating systems.

If you have two or more computers on your desk and you are tired of having several keyboards and mice around to control them, this is the program for you. While running this program, you can move the mouse pointer beyond the right or left edge of your primary display and the pointer will appear on the other computer screen. If you have ever used x2x or a computer with two graphics cards, you know what I am talking about.

The program will open a small (one pixel wide) window on the edge of your screen. Moving the pointer into this window will trigger the program to take over your mouse and send mouse movements and keystrokes though the RFB protocol to a VNC server running on another machine. When the pointer is moved back towards the opposite edge on the other screen, the mouse is returned to your primary display.

The operation itself is almost identical to x2x, but most of the code was actually borrowed from the program vncviewer.

Win2VNC works with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP. Note that if your secondary machine is running X-windows, you will need to use x0rfbserver rather than the regular Xvnc server to achieve the proper effect.

Win2VNC normally lives in the system tray and has a menu there that allows you to exit the program, send syskey events and save connection options.

vnc is not nice with vista

hi chris sorry about my commemt about you banned me it is ok now sorry. anyway great videos and great website.please not stop. thank you for all the great videos and onces again sorry and thank you for the vid

nothing is nice with vista

Note: Most usb KVMs only support a mouse and keyboard on the usb.

Use VNC on my 300+ network and also use it to control those PCs from home. We have one Vista (for obvious reasons) and I can’t VNC into it… irks me.

ok will try it ultra vnc did not like internet
i hope that 1 works dude the other 1 will not work on internet

that music gets me horny lol jk

Neither, use dameware.

i cant wait for the new batman movie to come out

wtf lol!? ok good that u r j/k

oh sorry about the comment it was a bit over the top

If you just want to share one keyboard and mouse across multiple machines (desktops, laptops, etc) – then Stardock’s Multiplicity (or Multiplicity Pro) is the best choice I’ve found.

I use it at home and at work and really couldn’t live without it.

It not only lets you move the moue cursor past the edge of the screen to control a different machine seamlessly (and you can set up several machines on all sides, great multi-mon support, etc), but you can also copy and paste across them, including everything from text and images to full files or folders.

It’s brilliant software. If you’re willing to pay for it (or get your company to pay for it), it is well worth it versus something like Win2VNC.

Seems like a nice program to have and may be something I would be interested in to go between my laptop and desktop, but I didn’t see Vista support.

I use Synergy ( took long to figure out, but I LOVE IT ) , and ultraVNC ( open source ) Dameware. also I like Radmin best. You have to pay for Radmin, but worth it.

i think he barely knows what he is talking about. If you don’t know vnc and kvms by heart, you aren’t a teckie

As do I, synergy rocks

It stands for Keyboard Video Mouse, It’s a device that allows you to use one keyboard, one mouse, and one monitor for controlling two or more computers

Another choice is Synergy available at
http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/

It has Windows, Linux and MAC OS X installations available for download

I really like the job u do :D
u help other people and thats free.
i rlly hate it that some of the calls are pranks :(
u are a really cool guy :D

If you want to tunnel through to your home machine from work, I use UltraVNC using a MSRC4 encryption plugin. Screw gotomypc or logmein!

We use NetSupport Manager, it’s a great product, not free, but way better than most Remote Control products I’ve used.

proxy server will get you ban i had 1 install on my network and it ban me use it for when im over sea as thailand ban youtube and such things need 1 but a simple email to suport and i got the thing fix

I recently switched from LogMeIn Rescue to Techinline, which is a fraction of the price. It’s very easy to use since nobody has to install anything: your client just goes to a page where they get a number which they tell you and once you punch it in, that’s the connection! From what I’ve seen, that’s as easy as it gets. Lacks a couple of features though
