i believe you cant create differencing disks in vmware which is the best option ever in windows virtual pc or is there a way out ?

No comparison between VM Ware and VPC Mac. VMWare is of course faster since VPC is an emulator and VMWare is a virtualization program. That’s what had me leaping ahead to Intel Inside!

I do a lot of windows mobile development. Will both VPC and VMWare support the USB attached PDA’s. Has anyone been using this products with Visual Studio for Windows Mobile development and found any problems?

It’s pretty bad when someone feels they have to be sarcastic about how “obvious” it is to choose VPC over VMware. Can’t find something VPC can’t do? How about… Snapshots? Oh yeah, those.

Hi I am from India. I had used vmware and virtual pc both but my full marks are definitely to vmware including vmware workstation 6.0, vmware server and vmware esx server really awesome product no comparison with virtual pc because vmware serve not only desktop but enterprise segment as well

VMWare – no contest with Microsoft whatsoever. There is a comment about professional grade tools… I can’t understand why anyone who has actually used VMWare Workstation, Server, or big-daddy ESX and VI3 could even say Microsoft’s offering is anything close.

VMWare’s memory management alone is worth every penny.

Now if Microsoft would just stop being anticompetitive with their damn VHD formats and licensing terms.

Workstation 6.0 supports Vista as a guest and a host OS. It doesn’t require much “digging.” It’s right there on the Workstation product page…

Also, if you’d like some analysis on Workstation 6.0 versus Virtual PC, hop on Slashdot or some other place like it, and ask what people think of VPC versus VMware Workstation, and the overwhelming consensus is that VPC is a toy, and VMware Workstation is what serious developers, QA engineers, and Sysadmins use to help them do important things, day in and out.

Found another reason to avoid VMWare. NONE of their software will run under Vista. It can host a Vista virtual machine, but if your host OS if Vista forget VMWare.

You have to dig deep on their website to find this – but it’s there.

Tony: Are you using USB or USB2.0 devices through Virtual PC 2007?

That seems to be Chris’ major issue with it, that he CAN’T use those devices through Virtual PC…

Virtual PC 2007 – final release software and free. VMWare Workstation – beta release or pony up $200. Hmmmm…. Let me think…..

To me these are professional tools I use to earn my daily bread – not experimental toys. Until I hit something VPC07 can’t do I’m sticking with it. I tried VMWare Server (free download) and it slowed my Vista machine boot up to a crawl with all its’ networking requirements. In the work-a-day world the KISS principle always wins out.

WMware is definitely better than Virtual PC, I have the discontinued Mac version and I can tell you that it is as slow as hell compared to other virtualisation software. VM is cheaper too.
