Why wouldn’t Microsoft just fix this.To solve it yourself you can also get the upgrade for Vista called Windows XP. It’s good, you should consider looking into it. Now, if only there was a LinuXP kind of thing.. I would hug random people on the street and jump for joy.

Hello, I’ m afraid the advice about setting wallpaper via personalise and options didn’t work. I don’t know why I can’t set my JPEG picture as wallpaper.

Don’t know if this is the proper venue in which to register my utter disgust
with something that happens about once a week to me. I use Norton Sys-
temworks (and, no, I’m not prepared to defend the position with more than token effort). I also use a little program called WinPatrol. What happens is I get alternating popup screen from BOTH Norton anti-Virus
and WinPatrol telling me that my home page has been hijacked and what
would I like to do about it.

Well, what I would like to do about it is click “keep it the same” ONCE and
have it restored. But, no, simple me goes looking into “Who the heck is trying to hijack the page. Well, blow me down with a duck feather, if it isn’t my newest ex-friend Symantec doing the hijacking.

Now, I have tried the Tekkie Team at Symantec, and the news about that
ain’t good, as I’m sure numerous readers will confirm.

But what’s a poor mope to do when nonsense like this happens. The real
kicker is the pompous message that “NORTON ANTI-VIRUS” has detected
an attempt to hijack my home page and…wait for it…SUCCESSFULLY foiled an attempt by Symantec Corp, to do me harm.

If it weren’t so damn funny…and ironic, it would be worth throwing a spectacular hissy fit, but to what end?

Any suggestions?

Uh Chris, JPGs can’t be drawn to screen without being converted into a bitmap – you’ve got to pump the pixels onto the frame buffer somehow, and JPG doesn’t magically reduce the number of pixels because the GPU doesn’t understand JPG.

Converting to BMP first and caching that converted BMP is the only rational approach to a desktop wallpaper, outside low-level techniques like keeping a texture cached on the GPU.
