Virtual Machine Setup Problem

Jacob allowed me to connect to his machine via GoToAssist Express. The diagnostic report showed me he was using Vista Home Premium. He was having trouble getting a virtual machine setup. Using GoToAssist is such an easy way for me to help troubleshoot and correct problems that others are having. All I have to do is set up a URL and have the user go to it. We can then connect remotely (once they download and install the software), no matter where in the world the other person may be!

Jacob wanted to set up a virtual machine inside of Ubuntu using Parallels. I went in and started the New Virtual Machine Wizard, and had him put the operating system disc into the drive. I set up just a basic VM and gave it the guest OS type, which was Linux in this case.

A Virtual Machine is great when you need to run two different operating systems on one machine. You can also use them to test new programs and even malware removal, if you’re into that. I personally have Windows set up on my Mac via a VM, to allow me to switch into Windows Vista easily whenever I need to.

GoToAssist is such an awesome tool. I love using it when I can. It can save a technician a lot of time and money, by cutting out the need for physical on-site calls. If you find yourself having to travel a lot to fix things on other’s systems, I recommend you check out GoToAssist. You’ll be glad you did.
