Vipre Protects Your Computer From Malware

« Previous | Next »

There used to be the belief that if one stays away from “bad” Web sites, then malware is not a problem. That is not true, as a recent example with the New York Times illustrated. The popular news Web site was compromised, and the trusted site was serving up malicious ads:

The malicious ad took over the browsers of many people visiting the site, as their screens filled with an image that seemed to show a scan for computer viruses. The visitors were then told that they needed to buy antivirus software to fix a problem, but the software was more snake oil than a useful program.

Exploiting weaknesses in online ad systems is an increasingly common approach for computer criminals around the globe who hope to make a quick buck from the audiences of the sites they attack. Experts say the problem is likely to get worse as companies scramble to satiate a click-happy online culture.”

This is just one way in which criminals / hackers are becoming exceedingly creative in exploiting site visitors. No reputable software company would market products in this manner, but the criminals are relying on the trust that people have in the site.

There have been malware installations without the site visitors having to do anything. These are the so called ‘drive-by’ downloads, and just visiting the site puts one at risk. No click – or download – is necessary.

It is absolutely essential to be running an anti-virus and anti-spyware program. One of our recommendations is VIPRE from Sunbelt Software. It is effective without draining your computer of resources. VIPRE’s memory footprint is very small, and this has brought a lot of memory back to otherwise bogged-down machines.

Sunbelt Software is offering our readers a 20% saving on VIPRE. This offer is good until November 18, 2009.

VIPRE works with “Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista+ (All flavors) 32 and 64-bit, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP SP1, SP2, SP3 (Home, Pro, Media Center, Tablet) 32 and 64-bit and Windows 2000 SP4 RollUp 1.” And yes, it works with Windows 7, too.

The Sunbelt people are making a generous offer to protect all the computers in your home. It is a “home site license” which allows using the program on more than one computer. There is a discount for this “home site license,” and it’s just a huge saving for our readers.

We have worked with the people at Sunbelt for years. They work diligently to keep up with what is happening with computer security. It is a ‘cat-and-mouse’ game where criminals are trying to exploit people in creative and innovative ways. The people at Sunbelt keep up with what is happening and this is reflected in their security product. Many Gnomies use this program… and we recommend it.

Users of Windows 2003 should reconsider deployment of VIPRE AV. Recent installations on a network of WA state servers encountered difficulties after removing the previous McAfee AV. VIPRE representatives have informed us that the next version due out in several months should be more friendly to Server 2003 and its registry.

I question your Credibility and how much you are being paid to boast?. I Purchased Vipre & the personal firewall. After owing this for 3 weeks I have had more trojans, infections, malware, you name it-got past the gate and created the biggest NIGHTMARE!. Several phone calls to Vipre resulted in lackadaisical support or none at all. Running deep scans every day the report showed Blocked (Exploit.PDF-JS.Gen) Several Hours later a deep scan showed it Quarantined it! The real analysis here is that it got past everything. I could not open PDF attachments in Email nor any document in Word. Uninstalled Adobe Acrobat & Reinstalled. Another deep scan came up clean. Another call to Vipre said IF it came up clean it should be good. Explaining I now am getting Spooler Sub System App errors stating “encountered problem & must close windows”. I was told this is a Hardware problem & to call microsoft or HP & to run the Service Pack Discs. After Googling spoolerSV.Exe problems can be caused by a Back Door. I called Microsoft and they are not supporting XP as they want you to go out & buy Windows 7. The computer now has shut down 2x buy itself and started up by itself…Invisible Man? How about all the small hanging windows all over my screen! How about freezing windows? How about Back button sporadic working? How about sometime you can open IE Explorer and othertimes Not.. More spooler messages!. I also had a Trojan quarantined by Vipre..Doubting this I believed it got through too. Another call to Vipre and I hear words like “False Positive” used alot. I was then told to restore the System to an earlier date & then run Virpe in the Safe Mode. On reboot Microsoft was wanting to run 4 install updates as their entire source code for IE Explorer was published on the Web! The computer FROZE on Installing update 2 for several hours! A call to microsoft said dont touch it as it could do more problems-just leave it on. They said my error was backing it up into December 09 instead Jan 10 and that it had to go through all the previous old updates.Left the system on overnight and 12 hours later before my eyes the screen went black and everything shut down by itself. Horror! Much to my shock it came back on —crippled but there. I heard about a program to download IObit Advanced System Care. I ran this baby and it extracted all kinds of nasty stuff. Banker.CQN, trojans,Seneka.Dat, Trojan.Trace. I had like 73 results and thought this has got to be a Fake!. Removed the whole Shabang and WALLAH ! My computer works like a Dream. The back button works every time! Explorer works everytime! No Hanging windows! Pdf documents Open! Word Documents open! I am now in Love with the Advanced System Care. I am not in Love with Vipre nor their Support. The whole truth & nothing but the whole truth so help me!
