Very Heavy Music

Just had some fun that I'd like to share with you. I have been watching MP3 players (solid state, CD, hard disk, etc.) but I was just too darn cheap to break down and buy one (read: my lovely wife wouldn't let me). I was sitting at my desk one day listening to the 10 GBytes of MP3's on my laptop, and I had an epiphany: I am sitting at something relatively portable that I take home with me on the bus. It plays MP3s. All I had to do was go to the Power Schemes for my desktop top and did the following (under battery control section):

(1) Set the turn off display section to 5 minutes ( I don't need a display for this); (2) Set System Standby to 90 minutes; (3) Set System hibernate to 95 minutes. You then go to the Advanced Section, and set “When I close the lid of my portable Computer” to NONE (thus closing the lid no longer causes HIBERNATE, which I have to remember when I am at meetings).

All I do is EJECT my PC from my docking station, reboot it, start up WINAMP (or your favorite MP3 player), connect your headset, put your computer in your bag, and there you have it, a very expensive (but cheap to me) MP3 player. My only concern would be: am I harming my hard drive? The computer goes into my bag in a Vertical position, and I attempt to not “swing it around” too much. I guess we'll see. [Alan Whitton]
