Well, as most of you saw on today's show, my Dell finally arrived – and not a moment too soon. I thought I had ordered the unit that went all the way up to 1600×1200, but I'm just as happy with this screen at 1400×1050. If these objects got any smaller, I wouldn't be able to see what I was working on – and I like small fonts! I'm going to blog the forthcoming customization process tonight. Starting with replacing the default RAM (128 MB) with two 256MB DIMMs I purchased on special from Crucial.com. You can get free shipping if you  use this link

Another initial observation: this thing sucks batteries like none other. I have barely used it and it's already dropped from 67% to 35% – ouch. I'm glad I got that second battery. If I'm anywhere but in my home, it looks like I'll be keeping the adapter on hand. During XP's pending reinstallation, it'll be on AC, anyway. Okay, so here I go… wish me luck. If you haven't heard from me in a half hour, call for help. Ha! See, that's the name of my TV show. And… I… nevermind.

May the force be with you, Chris!

Good to hear your computer showed up. I've got an Inspiron 5000 and it fairly drains the batteries too. It's the price one pays for a 14 or 15 inch screen.

My 7500 has a 14″ and the battery lasts about 4 hours. Unfortunately the battery weighs about 6.24 tons. I'm really curious to get a read on the new ones. I was thinking of upgrading since this thing is just so damn heavy. On the bright side if anyone ever tried to mug me I could brain them with it.

I guess you've read my horror stories with the Dell batteries (in 18 months I've had 4 quit working altogether) and power supplies… Hope your fate ends up being a lot better! Good luck!

The Latitude with Attitude sucks up batteries too. Tomorrow while I am on the road will be a good test to see how long the dual batteries really last! The go even faster when I am running my wireless network card. Oh well, it's a beautiful machine. And the monitor … it's HUGE! There are always trade-offs though.
