Upload Digital Photos to Web Albums for Free!

Last year, my parents lost a lot of digital photos in a hard drive crash. It was very tragic, because they had not backed up any of those photos. They had the Picasa software to help them with the backup, but I had never explained how to use it. I have apologized many times. Picasa is now a free program, and can help save your photos, should some disaster or failure ever occur.

This is a free program for Windows or Linux. Allegedly, Google is also working on a way to port it over to OS X, as well. Ponzi and my Mom both love Picasa. It’s very simple to use. Mom recently wanted to know how to upload photos to the web. I told her “well, just push the web albums button”. Yeah, that’s all there is to it. You can upload an entire folder full of photos through the Picasa client, right to your free Google photo account. Google gives you a Gigabyte of free space, just for this purpose.

You can also log into your Picasa account online, and upload photos directly that way. You can change several different options in your account. Choose your album cover. Change the look of your layout. Heck, you can even embed a slide show using any or all of your photos. It’s also easy to re-download albums should you ever need to.

As far as I’m concerned, Picasa whips all the other photo applications’ backsides. It’s an amazing program, and I sincerely hope you’ll give it a try.

I’ve used picasa once, as in the program, scince I had this conference at my school, so I took like 150 pics, so yeah, lot’s of ppl in my class where like “dude, send me some”, so I was like “geez, need to find a way to upload them all and then just send them the links… so I went to a couple of site and said “oh dam, need to upload one by one” as in browse, clic, enter, etc., but picasa the program came to the rescue :)

I have also had a similar hard drive crash a few months back. I have heard of Picasa, but had never really given it a chance back when i had first discovered it. I just checked it out, quite a lot different from when i first had seen it. I especially am fond of the slideshow embed feature. Great post Chris

I’ve used and recommended Picasa to anyone who would listen for a couple of years now. It’s simple to use, has great basic editing tools, and the photo sharing feature is great.

I am still obsessed with Flickr. I think it’s because I am a part of so many groups and love the community there. Especially since they added the feature to edit with Picnik, the best online editor! Also they are integrating Picnik with their upload software and hopefully adding albums offline as well, which is the one thing Flickr needs. But for people who need a FREE web album service with all the bells and whistles Picasa.

That’s stinks. Hundreds of Photo’s Lost. But now they know what to do next time they have a HDD failure.

My brother has Picasa But I’ve never tried it. It sounds great.
And 1GB of space just for photo back up is great. Now you’ll have a nice safe place to keep all your pictures backed up and still have them if something goes wrong with your computer.

This is really helpful! I don’t take alot of pictures, but I think I might give this a try just because it looks awesome! Thanks again for another great video showing me how to do another great thing!

Pretty cool program.Only thing is,I dont have enough photos to use it.That is preety cool how you can get 1gb of hardrive space.Too bad for your parents though.I know somewhat how they feal.My hardrive has crashed like 6 times in a little over a year

i can see this as a very good tool for backing up. i myself experienced the same thing where a hard drive crashed with all my old holiday photos on and i could not recover them if only idd have known about this earlier my beloved photos will have been saved. at the moment i do not have a picasa account i use flickr but i have seen chris’ picasa and experienced the way it works.

I don’t know, Chris.
I love the Picasa desktop software, but Flickr is where it’s at for online photos. I get unlimited storage, and there’s more of a community feel (same reason you love YouTube).
If there were a way to upload photos from Picasa to Flickr, I’d be in heaven. Until then, I guess I’m stuck with Windows Live Photo Gallery on the desktop…

I like Picasa a lot. Picasa is way better than the Sony Picture Motion Browser I was using before.

I’m looking forward to installing this program for when I purchase a new digital ,especially the edit side of this product I’m always on the lookout for trusted components and I have Chris to thank and his chat room for my daily Q’s..
Thanks guys!
