Twitter Launching Embeddable Tweets
Finally! If you’ve ever had something you’ve said on Twitter “embedded” elsewhere, you likely ended up feeling that something was lost in the translation. There’s never been a simple way of copying tweets to use in another medium as a reference. You either simply quoted the words (which looked weird, most of the time) or you had to take a screenshot of the tweet and then embed the image (which took a lot of time). Thankfully, the people at Twitter have realized what a kluge this was, and are offering up a fix.
Beginning May 4th, you will be able to easily embed any tweet. According to an email response received by Mashable, the embed is “a super super simple piece of code to help people generate nice HTML tweets instead of using screen-grabbed images. It’s something that Robin Sloan has been using for Twitter Media & is now sharing.”

This is fantastic news for people in the blogging or news reporting business. As Twitter becomes more of a place to share breaking news and important information, the things people say there will be more widely quoted and re-printed. There have been many times in the past I’ve tried to find an easier way of embedding tweets for reference into posts I’ve written. As I said earlier, though, there just was no way to accomplish this properly.
While embeddable tweets are a great idea, there is one thing that hasn’t been addressed. Should a person decide to later delete the embedded tweet from their timeline, your post or story will have a nice little hole where that quote once resided. By taking a screenshot of a tweet, it cannot then be deleted by the original poster and is saved until the end of time (or the end of your blog/site).
We cannot forget, of course, our own tweet-capturing service: Twickie. Twickie allows you to filter your tweets and grab easy-to-use code to paste into your blog or website. The results display beautifully.
