Oh, man – I've been toying with Microsoft Media Center Edition for a while now (see my Televisionary Cam), but it just got better with Portable Media Centers. Finally, I can take my recorded shows with me to another set in my house! I didn't think I could ever say it, but this beats SnapStream's BeyondTV v3.4. I still adore utilities like FreeGuide, TV Guide (desktop client), and Pocket TV Listings, but this… this beats all.
Use Optimize 3.0 to clear out your registry, and get rid of pesky errors that can threaten the stability of your machine. It's also easy to use to kill off unneeded processes that may be hogging up your memory - and will help speed up your boot times.

Yeah, the only reason I stay with BeyondTV is the fact that I can't get MediaCenter without buying a new machine. I already have an awesome system and a Hauppage PVR 250. Add in the BeyondTV 3.5 beta and I am still quite happy.
Now, if we could get a Media Center 2005 add-on that would work with other hardware I would jump on it in a min.
