I downloaded the newest version of Skype for Mac OS X Leopard. Once downloaded, the Skype icon which I would transfer to the Applications folder shows a circle and diagonal line over it, i.e., “not permitted.” In the downloads folder I see the name of the file but not the blue Skype icon. It does not open Skype.

Skype kills internet connection, but they still take the money for something which is a crock!

i’ve heard so many raves from overseas friends about Skype. Downloaded the application, but cannot open it- computer says “… not supported on this system.” Looks like I may have a non-mac version. No way to contact Skype for support– out of luck unless you can find a specific problem on their support page..

Oh, I’m relieved to read that others have the same problem: I have a macbook pro and I can’t see other people in skype, but they can see me.
I’ve tried to reinstall skype many times, including the older version (which worked just fine in my old macbook), but I still can see anyone in the macbook pro.
Does anyone knows what to do??? I live far from my friends and family and it’s really sad not to see them… :/

I live in the UAE and my parents in South Africa. I use a Mac and used to Skype call a lot but suddenly one day we could not hear each other, the words break up so much that you cannot understand one word. Please help

Chris has raised a lot of valid points. i recently switched to Mac and have experienced same problems. To put it in simple terms, Skype is not at all easy and friendly as it is on Windows.
Why just Skype, I guess its the same with Yahoo Messenger too.

i cannot send messages, the moment i send then, skype closes down, what should i do. Only after i bought a Mac this happens, never with pc though. There are some serious problems going on with apple that people dont know about. like office for apple, what a joke, costing a shit load of money and nobody who works on these programs fixes them. I constantly have to open the formatting. You first have to close the formatting then open it. Why does’nt it just open from the start. I dont want to open that shit u know, Please help me in this regard, maybe i dont understand apple like you guys do. I am a foreigner in Korea, and these Koreans cannot help you with anything!

Let me clarify. It’s like I can’t see them. The video on the Mac is about 1 minute to 1.5 minutes behind the actual conversation. Not only that, but it freezes and I get frame updates about every 5 or 10 seconds.

So I see it’s been over two years and this is still a problem. I recently bought a MacBook Pro 13″ and loaded Skype to continue videoing with my parents. They can see me, but I can’t see them. Too bad — this was such a great product but now I need to find an alternative…..
