An update to Windows XP Media Center Edition is upon us, providing a comprehensive collection of bug fixes and some new features that leave Ed Bott saying, ‘so what?‘ Tonight we talk to Ed about why the “Emerald” release of Windows MCE isn’t as exciting as it could be.
Following the discussion about MCE, Barb Hagin will talk to us about the Craigslist takedown notice received by classified search site Oodle, along with more general topics in the Web 2.0 world, like ‘Who has the right to public content?’ ‘What are the rules?’ ‘Who makes the rules?’ and ‘Whats best for consumers, buyers and sellers?’
Speaking of Web 2.0, we’ll also hear a conversation between Chris and Mike Arrington of TechCrunch, the self-described weblog dedicated to obsessively profiling and reviewing every newly launched web 2.0 business, product and service.
And of course, we want to hear from you. The phone lines are open from 6-9pm Pacific:888-PIRILLO or you can call Chris on Google Talk: chris.pirillo@gmail.com.

Guest: Ed Bott
Ed Bott is an award winning tech journalist and blogs at http://www.edbott.com/weblog/
Chris asked Ed what he thought about Symantec products. Ed was of same opinion as Chris that they all suck and should be uninstalled as soon as the subscriptions run out. Chris didn’t feel that goes far enough, as he thinks they should be removed immediately. They then spoke about Microsoft’s upcoming One Care security software which Microsoft plans on charging for. Both felt that this is paramount to creating a problem and then charging for a solution. It’s also bound to get Microsoft back into court as this could be viewed as a repeat of their monopoly tactics.

There was also a discussion about DRM and the over copy protection that media companies are using. Ed doesn’t purchase ANY CDs from RIAA artists and refuses to buy any copy protected CD or media that uses DRM. (Mike in the chatroom suggested the site RIAARadar.com to find out if an album was released by a member of the RIAA.)
Guest: Mike Arrington
We heard a conversation between Chris and Mike Arrington of TechCrunch, the self-described weblog dedicated to obsessively profiling and reviewing every newly launched web 2.0 business, product and service.
Guest: Craig Donato
Craig Donato, CEO of Oodle, will talk to us about the Craigslist takedown notice received by the classified search site, along with more general topics in the Web 2.0 world, like ‘Who has the right to public content?’ ‘What are the rules?’ ‘Who makes the rules?’ and ‘What?s best for consumers, buyers and sellers?’
Ponzi Plays with BitTorrent
Chris showed Ponzi how to use BitTorrent. He suggested using Torrentz.com to find torrent files and µTorrent for the client.
Its important to always virus and Trojan scan anything you download and to be careful and alert when selecting files. A movie is never very small. Music files aren’t kb either.
Ask Leo
This week Leo expressed his despair for the state of networking for “average” computer users these days. Links and other resources at http://ask-leo.com/networking_sucks.html
