Thursday 15 December 2005

In the inaugural event for The Chris Pirillo Show Christmas 365, on December 1, 2005, Major Nelson from Xbox Live answered questions about Xbox 360 and four people received a free Xbox Live Gold subscription. On December 8, 2005, The Chris Pirillo Show gave one listener a Sony PSP. Thursday, December 15, 2005, Major Nelson returns for the full 3 hours of The Chris Pirillo Show. More Xbox Live Gold Subscriptions will be given away to more listeners at this event. Think of it as an early Xmas 360.

During the live broadcast from 6-9pm Pacific (GMT-8) on December 15, 2005 Major Nelson will answer as many questions as we can possibly squeeze into three non-stop hours of Xbox 360 talk. From the leather couch outside the studio door, eyes glued to a 51-inch HD display, a handful of people will be play testing 18 Xbox 360 games, with live commentary on which games rule and which games are better left for the bargain bin. Live Webcam shots will be updated regularly covering all the action. This is one Xbox 360 event you don’t want to miss.

There are two convenient ways to participate in live calls during the Xmas 360 extravaganza. The toll-free line, 888.PIRILLO is available to callers in the U.S. and Canada. For callers outside the toll free area, you can place a free call using the Google Talk address listed on TheChrisPirilloShow.com. There’s a back channel in the official IRC chat room for The Chris Pirillo Show and of course you can simply remain a fly-on-the-wall and listen to the live stream. Xbox Live Gold Subscription recipients will be selected at random from people who call in between 6-9pm Pacific on December 15, 2005.

Please refrain from asking when Xbox 360 consoles will be available in your neighborhood. All other questions regarding Xbox 360 are welcomed.

From the leather couch outside the studio door, eyes glued to a 51-inch HD display, a handful of people will be play testing 18 Xbox 360 games, with live commentary on which games rule and which games are better left for the bargain bin. Tonight’s Calls

  • Mathew from North Carolina asked about the reorganization of the Xbox team. Larry said that its pretty normal for teams to reorganize after a major a product ships because their focuses change. He also wanted to know what Microsoft is thinking about the playstation online service. Larry and the Xbox team aren’t worried. All Sony has right now is a slide for presentations.
  • Jeff from Utah wanted to know how he can get his gamer tag from a couple years ago back. Larry said that once an account is canceled you cannot get the tag back.
  • Terry from Indianapolis was blown away by the live arcade and wanted to know when/if the live arcade would be open to individual developers and if an SDK would be released for it. Larry said its not something they’re planning on doing within the next 6 months but it will be something they’re looking at doing in the future. More information on this can be found on Larry’s podcast which can be found on the Major Nelson blog.
  • Darnel feels the launch was very rough because of the shortages of the consoles. Larry said this happens every Christmas with at least one major product. Microsoft is doing the best it can trying to get more boxes in the retail chain.
  • Geraldo in southern Cali is a Microsoft employee too. He used to be a huge Call of Duty player on the PC and would play Halo on the Xbox. Geraldo loves Call of Duty 2 and thinks it’s the best first person shooter he has played. Oh and by the way, Geraldo had to preorder his Xbox 360 too. Microsoft employees don’t get first dibs.
  • _____ wanted to know what the maximum number of online players you can have in a game. The max is 32. He also can’t find a 360 anywhere. Larry suggested he tried Walmart and Target. The caller also tried EB Games and just can’t find one anywhere.
  • John loves Joust and wanted to know what the differences between the original arcade game and the version in the Live Arcade are. Larry knows they’re making some changes to the games and are probably improving the AI some but isn’t certain of the extent of changes being made. John also wanted to know why a dot is appearing on Joust or if it can be an Easter egg. Larry isn’t familiar with it, but will ask the team members that play it and will mention it on his blog or podcast.
  • John was wondering about the media connect feature and if there will be video sharing. The only way to do video is if you have a Windows Media Center. John also wanted to know if there would ever be a Web Browser added to the system. Larry said no. Why would jhonny boy even ask that? No one will ever know…BLM
  • David wants to order an additional power brick and wanted to know how he could do it. Larry said that he doesn’t have that information yet and will post it on his blog. He also requested that the gamertags be added to the MY XBOX page title so they so up in tabs and bookmarks. Larry said he has already spoken to the Live team about adding that feature.
  • Michael from North Carolina wanted to know what he can do with his PSP and the 360. Larry explained you can stream music and video from it.
  • Bassam wanted to know about the face plate he was supposed to get from Zero Hour. Larry said that if you were there, you’d get them eventually.
  • Daniel wanted to know if there will ever be a leader board. Larry said they’re working on that and that will be something that will be coming down the pipe.
  • HedgehogLover1 wanted to know if there would be an RSS feeds for user data. Larry said its something that’s being discussed.
  • Jared would like to know how he can get on Major Nelson’s friends list. Larry said to send him a message and he’ll add you.
  • Michael has the original xbox asked if it was possible to voice chat with his brother who has the 360. Larry explained your unable to voice chat from desktop to desktop. It can only be done while you’re both in the same game. Michael also wanted to know how you add your gamer tag to your Windows desktop and Larry said that instructions for this on his web site are wrong and he will have to update it.
  • Dylan mentioned the Dashboard feature that allows you to talk with friends who are not only playing a game, but also watching a movie or listening to music. Dylan was lucky enough to win his Xbox 360 from Pepsi and also got an EA game of choice and a copy of Kameo.
  • Anthony from NY wanted to know if there will be classic games on the Live Arcade. Larry said they’re trying to always find and add more games to the system but the biggest problem is obtaining the legal rights to the titles and sometimes you just can’t locate the authors or current rights holders of some of the games.
  • Stan from Illinois asked if there will be a tradeoff plan for games. Larry wasn’t sure.
  • Joe from Philadelphia is having a lot of problems with the live arcade game, Hearts. It keeps crashing and locks up frequently. The problem seems to be a problem with the software and not hardware. The software developer has to create an update. Chris knows someone at the game developer and can help bring it to the attention of them.
  • Dave called back to ask a question for a friend who is deaf and is doing a lot of typing on a keyboard and he would like to wire up the keyboard to the keypad to the connector on bottom of controller. http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/1743/joystickkbjacksjog2bc.jpg. Much like the XBOX360 thumbpad http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/9013/360kb3it.jpg Larry said its not possible. You’ll have to get a USB extension cable and connect it to the front of the 360.
  • Denis from Chicago wanted to know why the whole world is going with Blue-Ray and Microsoft is not. Larry said that it isn’t an area he deals with and really can’t comment on it.
  • Mathew wanted to know if Larry was going to get Jay back on his podcast again. Larry is working on that.
  • Paul from NJ wanted to know if Pete was still there. Chris said he left.
  • Rueben from Texas wants to know if its possible to backout of the download screen while downloading a game. Larry said you can but it pauses the download. They are looking at improving it.
  • Tom from Memphis wanted to know about the USB hub support on wired controllers. Larry said that it was an unsupported configuration and that he hasn’t tried it himself.
