Three-way on the Freeway: My Car Accident

On July the 15th, I was innocently tooling down the highway, headed to a local event to hang out with some friends. Out of nowhere – CRASH! Someone driving a rental car behind me smashed into the back of my car, shoving me hard into the car in front of me. I was effectively the middle of a car sandwich.
Thankfully, no one was injured. Had I known I was about to be hit, I’d have probably tensed up and been hurt. However, I had no idea it was happening until it was over and done with.
Neither the car in the back nor the car in the front sustained much damaged. My poor little Vader, however, has several owies. It’s pretty crunched up, in the front AND the back. Needless to say, Vader now has to head into the shop and have just a tiny little bit of work done. Ok – so it’s a lot of work. The car was not drivable after it happened. I just am glad that I have insurance!

Hopefully, when you talk to your insurance company, they are prepared to pay for the car in front of you. not saying that *will* happen, but I was always told that if you were in an accident like this, where the care behind you forced you to hit the car in front of you that *you* will be held responsible for the damage to the car in front of you because *you* hit them. (This was always the argument for “why you stop in traffic with a car length between you and the guy in front of you.”)
Like I said, not saying it *will*, but I’ve heard of it happening before. This totally sucks, and I’d hate to see you get caught by surprise when the guy in front of you comes at your insurance company instead of the guy who hit you. You know, *if*. Which the way some people are…

What a bummer, I have worn those shoes before and they are not very comfortable!
The only advice I would give you on this is to be persistent with your insurance company, the adjusters priority is to settle the claim for as little money as possible, which may not serve you. That was my take away for sure.

BUMMER! So glad you are OK. My goodness Chris, get rid of that car. I am not trying to sound like your Mum. But really, how safe is that car when it got all squished up and the other cars were OK.
I was in a similar situation back in 1996. The car n front of me stopped because the car in front of him was stopped to make a left hand turn. Some guy came flying up behind me and pushed me into the car in front of me. The guy behind me, hit my Toyota Tercel so hard that the front of his car was underneath my car. My back end was completely off the ground. No injuries. Only minor damage to my car.
