These are a Few of My Favorite Things
I’m willing to bet that old song is now stuck in your head. If you’re too young to know and remember the song – well, you just missed out. Look it up on YouTube, and immerse yourself!
What are your favorite “things”? You cannot list people, as they aren’t things. We all know your family, friends and loved ones come first… that’s a given! I’m talking about honest-to-goodness things. Is your cell phone the best thing you own? What about your iPod, or maybe even your dual monitors? Heck, maybe your favorite things aren’t even tech-related. That’s ok, as well! I’m curious to see what everyone will list as being their favorite thing.
We’re so wrapped up with using our gadgets and gizmos that we sometimes forget all about human connections. We forget to take the time to really talk to others, and get to know them. Why not spend some time today checking out what the people around you are talking about? Go ahead – join their conversations!

- Is iTunes going social?
- Are the “evil for-profit” health insurance companies really so evil?
- Rest in Peace, Les Paul.

- Are URL shorteners a good thing?
- Are printed silicon ink chips a boon, or a bust?
- How do you know if you’ve found that special someone?

Chris, FYI – It wouldn’t be funny if it weren’t so true… Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan ’s Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was “My Favorite Things” from the legendary movie “The Sound Of Music.”
Here are the actual lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cadillac’s and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things..
When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin’,
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin’,
And we won’t mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I’ve had,
And then I don’t feel so bad.
Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews’ clever wit and humor with others who would appreciate it.

In no particular order, the things that I own and like the most are:
- computers and portable usb hard disks (very handy)
- left-handed (being a lefty myself, it took me many years to finally get a left-handed guitar) Ibanez electric guitar, Joe Satriani guitar strap (main reason: bought it at a Joe Satriani concert!) and Micro Cube Roland amp
- Nikon D40 digital SLR
- 4.25″ f/5 telescope
- Beatles music collection
- Swiss army knife
- Shades, never leave the house without them in daylight

In order:
1. Bacon
8. My cynical/sarcastic sense of humor
II. My electronic gizmos/gadgets
Yon. Stuff
There’s more but, I’m too lazy to type them all.
