There’s a New YouTube Player!
Well, there’s a new YouTube video player to embed throughout the Internets – it’s for some of us, apparently…
Doesn’t seem to be too much of a leap forward, although (as evidenced by the following screen shot) you can tweak the colors to better match your site. I find the transitions to be a bit smoother, and my guess is that this new player is going to be forward-compatible with the YouTube advertising strategy.
Not sure if embeds have really helped my subscriber count – as there’s virtually no way of telling where new subscribers come from. I truly believe that YouTube is the vector for newer, better “podcast” subscribers. These are typically people who don’t know who I am – which is the audience I’m looking for (or, largely, the people who used to be addicted to TechTV).
Play with it – see what you think:

I really like the wide player, too – but it’s a bit too wide for me to embed on this particular page. If you’d like a look, it’s already embedded at the very bottom of on our Live site (which likely needs a redesign at some point in the near future). If you’d like to see the wide YouTube player somewhere else, feel free to use this code:

Those aren’t thoughts, they’re comment spam.. if they’re ugly trackbacks they really ought to have an indication and not be in with comments.
